In order to save materials and make it easier to build the stables, both families chose the stables next to the house. They share one main wall of the main house. They only need to build another main wall, and the other two sides are one behind the other.  It's a door, but it doesn't need to be so wide on one side.

When building the stable, Dalang and Aunt Liu were the main ones, with Xin Hu and Heping'er as helpers.  First bury the thick branches into the ground, and then carefully pound them down with stones to bury these main materials deeply into the ground. After setting up the frame, build the roof.  The most difficult thing to do is the roof.

Because there is no ladder, everyone can only take out the table at home and put chairs on it, and people stand on it to use it as a ladder.  And there are no nails or anything like that. All the places that need to be connected are tied with ropes. After doing this, reeds have to be used as walls, and bundles of them are tied to the buried main poles, and the same goes for the top.  If there are any gaps left in the reeds, plug them with thatch, and you're done.  It was so simple, with an area of ??only about ten square meters, and two small thatched sheds, but it kept everyone busy for three days.

On the last day, all the reeds and thatch at home were used up, so everyone had to cut the reeds and thatch to make the walls and roof as tight as possible.  In fact, it would be better if another layer of yellow mud was applied, but the weather was too cold and the thin mud was not easy to mix, and they didn't have that much time to do it.  However, although the stable built in this way is not very good, it can keep out the wind and rain. If more hay is piled in the stable, the horse will be warmer.

¡°That¡¯s all we can do, let¡¯s do it better next year.¡± Aunt Liu said.

"Well, this simple stable will probably not last long. We just need to deal with this winter first." Dalang was not very satisfied either, but that's what he and Aunt Liu were capable of.

"I think it's not bad. When you close the door inside, it's much warmer than outside. When we burn the kang, it will be even warmer here." Xin Hu went into the stable to feel it and said with satisfaction.

To be honest, she didn¡¯t have high hopes at the beginning. The materials and tools were not complete, and the manpower was even more insufficient. It was only everyone¡¯s best efforts that it could be done like this.  Moreover, the horses are naturally cold-resistant, and since they are leaning against the main wall of the room where they sleep, the heat from the kang can warm the stable to some extent, so this new stable can basically be used.

"Yes, we have all forgotten that you can also burn a kang to make the stable warmer." Aunt Liu said, and both Dalang laughed.

"Okay, we will start collecting firewood again tomorrow, especially hay as much as possible. Otherwise, the horses will not have enough food." Dalang said.

¡°It¡¯s not just the grass that the horses need to eat, there¡¯s also a big shortage of firewood at home. I¡¯m just looking forward to a few more sunny days until I can cut enough firewood.¡± Aunt Liu looked at the sky with some worry and said.

She was afraid that it would snow tomorrow, and if there was no firewood at home, she would be waiting to freeze to death.  Basically, her family only has a few hundred kilograms of branches, which she cut down with Dalang Xinhu two days ago. Most of them are still wet, and they are all piled at the door to dry in the sun.  The firewood used at home these days is all fallen leaves and branches collected from small stones, so the gap in their firewood is really big.

Dalang and Xinhu¡¯s families are much better off, although this time they used up all the reeds and thatch they had in their homes to build a stable.  But Ping'er and Dabao collected more firewood than they could use every day.  Ping'er's work is more than one or two times better than that of Xiao Shitou. Plus, Dabao can pick up two small baskets every day. Therefore, apart from the firewood they pick up every day, there is still some left over every day.  This accumulated over a hundred kilograms.  But this little firewood will never be enough for the whole winter.

"It seems that we are going to work hard for a few days." Dalang sighed and said.

He found that he sighed too many times in the past few days.  No wonder Xinhu cried. Who would want to live such a hard life?  Not to mention a child.  He regarded himself as an adult in his heart, and Xinhu was just a child in his eyes.  Little did he know that Xin Hu had the same idea as him.  Both of them thought they could share more responsibilities and work.  However, after all, Dalang is better at working and knows more than Xinhu.  So Xinhu just let himself follow Dalang's command.

"Yes, get up early tomorrow. You have to work a little longer in the evening before you can go home." Aunt Liu said, taking advantage of the fact that it was still dark, she pulled a horse in a hurry and went to collect firewood.

Seeing this, Dalang also pulled a horse to follow him. As he walked, he turned around and told Xin Hu: "You don't have to follow me. Go back and cook first, and cook Mrs. Liu's family's share as well. This meal will be the same for everyone."  eat together."

During the days when we were setting up the stable, Xinhu also cooked the rice and everyone ate together. After all, Aunt Liu was the main force and had no time to cook, so Aunt Liu brought some food from her own home and ate together.

Xin Hu responded and took Dabao into the stove. He went to cook, but Ping'er still brought the small stones to collect firewood. The two of them worked for most of an hour, and they were able to collect a basket of firewood.

Xin Hu knew that Da Lang and Aunt Liu would definitely go home in the dark. After cooking, she stood in the yard and shouted: "Ping'er, bring Xiao Shitou back for dinner." She planned to let Ping'er, Dabao and Xiao Shitou come back first.  The children and Aunt Zhang ate.

"No, please wait a little longer, we can still see." Ping'er heard her cry and shouted loudly.  He immersed himself in collecting firewood again.

Xiao Shitou swallowed his saliva and refused to go home even when he saw Ping'er. Then he saw that the firewood in his basket was obviously less than others, so he didn't say a word and accelerated the speed of collecting firewood.  The two of them were walking through the woods behind, with their heads lowered and dragging a basket, as if they were competing.

Xin Hu sighed, first filled a bowl for Dabao to eat, and then brought the food to Aunt Zhang.

"Dabao, you can eat at home by yourself. I will deliver food to Aunt Zhang."

"Okay." Dabao replied, drinking the porridge without raising his head.  He is young and gets hungry and tired quickly. He is so hungry right now that he can't care about other things.

"I'll be back soon, don't go to the pot to cook it yourself, be careful not to burn it." Xin Hu walked out of the kitchen door and turned around to warn him.

"Okay." Dabao swallowed the porridge in his mouth and nodded seriously.

Xin Hu then picked up the food and walked away quickly.

"Oh, thank you very much." Aunt Zhang saw her and thanked her quickly, then asked, "Where are Xiao Shitou and the others?"

"You are still working. You eat first. They will be back later." Xin Hu said, putting the food on the kang and burning a handful of firewood for her.

"Oh, my body has dragged everyone down." Aunt Zhang said embarrassedly.  During the day, she had been lying on the kang since she got here, and she had hardly been on the ground. She was really afraid that she would not be able to protect the fetus in her belly. After raising the fetus for ten days, she dared to get off the ground and take a few steps, but she wanted to go out to do it.  Living is absolutely impossible.  Therefore, although she was anxious, she could only stay in the room patiently.

"You should rest more if you look like this. But don't get up to work. If we work more, we will get your share back." Xin Hu advised.

"Thank you very much." Aunt Zhang thanked them again, feeling very grateful to their family.

"You eat slowly, I'll go back first." Xin Hu smiled and ran home quickly.

"Dabao, have you finished eating?" Xin Hu asked loudly before he entered the door.  She was afraid that Dabao would be afraid. It was already dark outside, with only a faint light left.  The child must be scared when he is at home alone.

"It's done." When Dabao heard Xin Hu's voice, he immediately lost his fear and said loudly.

"Well, you're so good. Let me see, are you full?" Xin Hu ran in with a smile and touched his belly.  I added half a bowl of porridge to him.

"Dabao, you eat by yourself. I'll ask Ping'er and Xiao Shitou to come back for dinner." Xin Hu added.  She was worried about the two younger ones and feared that they would collect too much firewood and not be able to carry it back.

"Okay." Dabao nodded, sat at the door of the stove with a bowl, and smiled.  He knew that Xinhu could endure his fear if he only went out for a short time. If he went out for a long time, Xinhu would not dare to leave him alone in the dark night.  This child had some trauma in his heart, and she understood it very well, so she tried not to leave him alone.

Fortunately, Xinhu went to find Ping'er and Xiao Shitou. The two little guys really fought hard and picked up a basket full, but they still refused to come back.  Xin Hu looked at the basket and the pile of branches on the ground and said with a smile: "Okay, let's go home. Come back to get these firewood tomorrow."

Seeing Xin Hu carrying a basket of firewood in each hand, Ping'er and Xiao Shitou both said in admiration: "Sister, you are so strong."

"That's right, when you grow up, you will also become stronger." Xin Hu said, but he was secretly happy in his heart. He was born with great strength. No matter how hard they practiced, they couldn't compare to him.

When the three of them returned home, Dabao was looking longingly at the door.  It took Xinhu about twenty minutes to go back and forth. The place where Ping'er and Xiao Shitou collected firewood was getting further and further away.

"Brother, haven't they come back yet?" Ping'er asked in surprise when he saw that Dabao was the only one at home.

"Yes, you two eat first, and I'll go take a look." Xin Hu said, filled a bowl of porridge for each of them, and went out.

When Xin Hu reached the edge of the pond, she still saw no one, so she called loudly a few more times, but no one responded.  She knew that Dalang and Aunt Liu must still be cutting reeds in the distance.  These two people obviously refused to come back until it got completely dark.  She simply took two lotus roots and washed them by the pond, and waited for them here. The lotus roots were washed tonight and can be stewed directly in the pot tomorrow morning.

Sure enough, she heard movement right after she finished washing.

"Aunt Liu, you are finally back." Xin Hu stood up and shouted.

"Well, what are you doing here? Go back quickly." Aunt Liu's voice came closer and closer, and Xin Hu felt relieved and returned home with the lotus roots.  (Remember the website address: www.hlnovel.com); Sure enough, she heard movement right after washing.
