Two people were walking on the West Street of Shencheng. One was a woman wearing a long crow-green coat, an indigo skirt, a bun, and neat legs. Behind her was a young girl with a slightly dark complexion and a healthy face.  She is ruddy, wearing a coarse cloth jacket and trousers, black cloth shoes on her feet, and carrying a homespun cloth bundle with blue background and white flowers. Her behavior is a bit timid. At first glance, she looks like a girl from the countryside who has never seen much of the world.

Trams, private cars, and rickshaws shuttle on the road. There are billboards for cigarettes, creams, and movie stars on both sides of the street. Girls are dazzled by pictures of naked thighs in cheongsams, permed wavy hair, and seductive red lips.

The clear voice of the newsboy sounded, "Tomorrow, the eldest son of the Jiang family of Dahua Textile Factory will hold a Western-style wedding in the church."

As the mother-in-law walked, she whispered, "Be careful what you say, don't offend the master, and don't inquire about other things. Do you remember what I told you?"

    "remember."

The girl remembered silently in her mind that the person she wanted to serve was the eldest son of a young master from a wealthy family. The male owner's surname was Jiang and the female owner's surname was Song.

Nowadays, it is not uncommon for wealthy families to maintain small mansions outside.

The girl¡¯s name is Sixi. Her hometown is in the countryside of Suzhou. She came to Shanghai to join relatives and find something to do.

After crossing two streets and alleys, in front of a mansion in the public concession, the mother-in-law stopped and Sixi looked in through the carved iron door.

It was cloudy when I woke up early. A two-story Western-style building in the iron gate was covered with a layer of dark gray. Sixi glanced at the door number, Jiang Mansion. The mother-in-law rang the doorbell, and a middle-aged male servant opened the door.

The mother-in-law said, "I made an agreement with Sister-in-law Wu to recommend a job."

The manservant lowered his eyelids, glanced at Sixi behind her, opened the door wide enough for one person, and let them in.

The iron door slammed shut again, and the manservant led the way without saying a word. When he came to the living room of the mansion, he saw a maid about forty years old. The maid had a long and thin face and said politely to her mother-in-law:  "Aunt Zhang, please run away."

The mother-in-law called to Sixi, "This is the girl I'm talking about. She is diligent in her hands and feet."

The maid surnamed Wu looked her up and down. Seeing that she looked very happy and Zhou Zheng, she seemed to be honest and simple, she said, "Stay here, let's give it a try first."

He gave the money for running errands to the mother-in-law. The mother-in-law got the benefit and left with a few words of satisfaction to Si Xi.

Sister-in-law Wu said to Sixi, "Madam, I'm not feeling well today. I'll take you to your room first."

The second floor of the small building is the master¡¯s bedroom, small living room, and study room, and the first floor is the living room, kitchen, and servant¡¯s room.

Sister-in-law Wu took Si Xi to a small room under the stairs. The small room had no windows and was small enough to accommodate a bed. Si Xi put down her luggage.

The small building was very quiet, with only two servants, Mrs. Wu and Sixi, and the doorman lived in a bungalow in the yard.

Sister-in-law Wu was picking rice in the restaurant, while Sixi was sitting at the dining table peeling lotus seeds.

Sister-in-law Wu picked the rice very carefully and said, "My wife won't have lunch, so she will have eight-treasure lotus seed porridge for dinner. I learned this from a cook in Peiping. I use glutinous rice and sticky yellow rice, plus lotus seeds, lilies, almonds, and chopped walnuts."  , Tremella fungus, and black sesame seeds, boil them until mashed, then mix with a small spoonful of white sugar, and sprinkle with green silk roses. It¡¯s beautiful and delicious.¡±

Si Xi then thought, this rich family is really particular, and asked, "Sir, do you also have porridge for dinner?"

Sister-in-law Wu found a small grain of sand in the rice and said, "Mr. doesn't come here every day, but comes every two days. He hasn't been here for a week. My wife was married behind his back. She used to be from a wealthy family."  Miss, the family is bankrupt."

Si Xi has been here for a long time and has become acquainted with Sister-in-law Wu. Apart from talking nonsense, Sister-in-law Wu is easy to get along with. She is the only mistress of the house and has no work. She is very free.

Sister-in-law Wu heated up steamed buns at noon, and sent some leftovers from the morning to the janitor, Old Liu, and they ate in the kitchen with Sixi.

In the afternoon, Sixi mopped the floor in the living room and wanted to clean the glass. Seeing that it was cloudy and about to rain, she wanted to wait until it cleared up before cleaning. Sister-in-law Wu told her that she did not need to clean up the upstairs, so as not to affect the wife's rest.

    Sixi did not go upstairs.

When it was time for dinner, Mrs. Wu carried a tray with a small bowl of eight-treasure porridge and four side dishes upstairs and delivered it to the hostess's bedroom.

When Sister-in-law Wu came down, she picked up three steamed buns on a plate, mixed them with some side dishes, and said to Si Xi, "You give it to Lao Liu."

Sixi came to the yard with the food and saw the manservant Lao Liu sitting on a long bench sharpening a knife.

Hearing someone approaching, he raised his hand and flicked the kitchen knife blade in his hand. Sixi narrowed his eyes and said with a smile, "Uncle Liu, it's time to eat."

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????"; Sixi stood at the bottom of the stairs, her two shiny black patent leather shoes quickly disappearing at the end of the stairs.

After a while, the sound of quarrels came from upstairs.

The male voice must be that of the host who just went upstairs, and the female voice is that of the hostess, who lives upstairs alone.

After half an hour, the sound of footsteps thumping on the wooden stairs was heard.

The man who just went upstairs quickly walked downstairs.

I didn¡¯t see Sixi hiding under the stairs.

    ????????????????????????????????

The small building was quiet again. Mrs. Wu looked upstairs. After a while, she went upstairs with a cup of hot milk.

Sixi returned to the small house where she lived.

There were wires in the hut, and an incandescent lamp hung above the head. Sixi didn't light the lamp, and the hut was completely dark.

She lay on the wooden bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Suddenly, there was a thunder, tearing the dark night sky apart, and heavy rain poured down.

That night, Sixi dreamed of a female ghost dressed in white in an old house in the countryside. The female ghost had long hair, covering half of her face, and her feet were off the ground, floating in the air.

I woke up with a start. I sat up and covered my chest. It was dark all around. For a long time, I remembered that this was a worker's house.

Unable to sleep anymore, it was still dark, so she lay quietly, feeling uneasy.

There was a sudden scream in the silence.

Sixi sat up in horror, this was not a dream.

Put on your coat and walk out of the hut.

The sky was dim and the light in the living room was dim. Sister-in-law Wu rolled down the stairs and shouted in panic: "It's a murder!"

"My wife my wife is dead!"

    Sixi suddenly felt horrified.

    ?Call the police.

Less than half an hour later, the public concession patrol police came.

The patrolman asked Sister-in-law Wu who was the first to appear at the scene of the crime. Sister-in-law Wu trembled and couldn't speak clearly. Her legs were weak and she held on to the stairs to lead the patrolman upstairs to take a look.

After reporting the crime, Sixi learned one after another from Mrs. Wu that a murder had occurred in the small building and the hostess was killed.

Chinese police detective Huang Ennan inspected the scene. Last night, all the windows in the rooms on the second floor were closed. The door to the living room downstairs was bolted from the inside. It rained heavily. The rain just stopped in the morning, and there were no footprints left on the carpet in the living room.

The murderer obviously did not escape from the second floor window and left in a swaggering manner from the living room. But how to explain that the door leading to the outside of the living room was bolted from the inside. Did the murderer leave through the door?

Shanghai newspapers reported the murder with great fanfare.

The male owner of this mansion is Jiang Molin, and the murdered female owner is Song Fengning.
