Fengtai Prefecture is located in a high-altitude area, which is very suitable for planting pepper trees.  Zanthoxylum bungeanum is full of treasures, and its seeds can be used as spices and medicinals. Zanthoxylum bungeanum is most suitable for spanking buttocks and palms!  It is said that if it is used as a board, it will hurt, numb, and itchy when hit, which will double the pain.  Therefore, the necessities of every academy are pepper boards, there are big and small ones, the big ones are about one and a half meters long and twenty centimeters wide, for spanking the buttocks with hands, and the small ones are called rulers, which are used to spank the palms.

When Du Heng dragged Ding Erkang back to the academy, two long benches and two large pepper boards had already been arranged on the playground of the academy.  The dean of the academy personally supervised the beating.  Without any explanation, the two were stripped off their trousers in public, pressed onto a long bench, and their mouths were gagged with a rag that was used to wipe something.  I heard the board falling to my buttocks, and there was a person beside me counting seriously: "1.2.3"

Du Heng was a hard-hearted person who was not afraid of pain when he was a child. When he fell down when he was a child, the thorn went into his flesh. He used a knife to goug out the thorn without even a swipe, and the girl who was waiting on him was stunned.  When the girl and his father went to report, the magistrate nodded and said: "A man bleeds but does not shed tears. My son should be like this!" It can be seen that Du Heng is not an ordinary person.

Ding Erkang was taught very strictly since he was a child. He shouldered the great task of revitalizing the Ding family.  If there is a thunderstorm and the face is as flat as a lake, you can worship the general!" Therefore, the little Ding Erkang also had a plan in advance, and he withstood this board.  I only heard the boards on the playground flying up and down, with crackling sounds, and occasionally I could hear the suppressed painful groans of the two of them, but there was no screaming scene full of playgrounds as imagined.  Only after forty or so blows were heard, someone shouted: "Dean, Dean, they both passed out!"

The dean solemnly shouted to the onlookers: "Anyone who violates the regulations will be enforced accordingly. Now, take them back and find a doctor to prescribe medicine!"

Ding Erkang and Du Heng were beaten hard by the board, and their buttocks became red and swollen one after the other. There was purple in the red, green in the purple, and torn skin in the green.  Double the power!  The doctor gave them medicines respectively, and told them: "Take a rest for two days before going to class. You have to lie on your stomach when you sleep. It will hurt even more when the board poison comes out, so you have to change the medicines on time."

The two brothers and sisters looked at each other, and although they were grinning in pain, they were also happy in their hearts. Ding Erkang quietly said to Du Heng: "Brother Zimei, thank you for helping me!"  Tell you to be greedy, and I will ignore you next time!"

After this meal, the two of them really became inseparable friends.

After eating the board, the injury will heal soon, but the study cannot be missed for a day.  They helped each other, supervised each other, and firmly occupied the positions of the champion and the second place, but most of them were Ding Erkang.  Du Heng was always a little unconvinced in his heart. He studied harder and found that no matter how hard he worked, he was like Ding Erkang in tennis.  Sometimes Du Heng always feels that his teeth are about to be gritted, but he can't hate Ding Erkang. He also needs the nourishment of friendship very much.  Therefore, he would never let that emotion show on the surface, especially when he was with Ding Erkang.

Du Heng's father was also full of hope for his son. He was only a magistrate, and there was no hope of advancement, so he hoped that his son would study hard, win the first prize, and be awarded the Imperial Academy.  Therefore, he spared no effort in the cultivation of Du Heng.  Two of the most outstanding people who both shoulder heavy responsibilities met at Huai Tan Academy

The imperial examination system in the Qing Dynasty is the most perfect, it is divided into four steps

The first step is the "children's test". In the Qing Dynasty, candidates who took the test, regardless of their age, were collectively called "tongsheng".  , and later refers to the "students" who entered the state and county to study as "scholars".  Only those who have obtained the qualification of "Xiu Cai" can take the higher-level examination.

The second step is the "township examination", which is a local examination, held every three years, called "big competition".  Because the examination period is set in the eighth month of the lunar calendar, it is also called "Qiu Wei", and the examination room was called "Qiu Wei" in the imperial examination era.  Each "township examination" has two examiners and four examiners. The examiners are usually temporarily appointed by the emperor, and most of them are Beijing officials and instructors who were born as Jinshi.

Most of the examiners were from Hanlin.  Those who pass the "country examination" are called "juren".  If you pass the "juren" exam, you can go to Beijing to take the national exam.  Even if you can't get a Jinshi in the national examination, you still have the conditions to become an official.

The third step is the "meeting examination", which is a national central-level examination. It is held in the capital in February, so it is also called "Chunwei".  The "examination" is presided over by the Ministry of Rites.  The emperor appointed two chief examiners from the Hanlin and the instructors, and there were eight examiners at the same time.  Enrollment is decided temporarily by the emperor.  Those admitted in the "examination" are called "gongshi".

If you are not admitted in the "examination", you can enter the Guozijian as a "supervisor", and in the future, if conditions permit, you can be awarded a small official in the suburbs of Beijing or an official in a state or county.  There is a sub-list in the "General Examination", and the "juren" who are on the sub-list are not considered formal admissions, but they can be awarded to school instructors.

The fourth step is the "Palace Examination", also known as the "Ting Examination", which is generally held in April of the lunar calendar after the "General Examination".  (Supreme administrative inspector), Dali Siqing (supreme judicial chief), etc. acted as the examiners, and the imperial historian (official in charge of supervision) supervised the examination.

The "Palace Examination" only asks one question, and candidates are required to hand in the papers on the spot, seal the papers and send them to the examiners for review. All "gongshi" who participate in the "Palace Examination" can obtain the qualification of "Jinshi". The "Palace Examination" is called "Jiabang  " or " A Branch ".

The list is divided into three tops: the first one is awarded the "Jinshi" and the third (selected in the exam), the first is the "No.  ".  "No. 1 scholar" is generally awarded to the Hanlin Academy for editing and writing, and "No. 2" and "Tanhua" are generally awarded to the Imperial Academy for editing and editing.  Erjia bestowed a number of "Jinshi" who were born, and the first one was named "Chuanlu".

Three top bestowed "Tong Jinshi" to a number of people from different backgrounds.  2. The top three "Jinshi" can take the examination of "Shujishi" of the Imperial Academy. After passing the exam, they are called "Shujishi". "Shujishi" is a "Jinshi" who is excellent in Chinese literature and calligraphy.  Important official positions such as editor of the Imperial Academy.

The content of the imperial examinations in the Qing Dynasty was mainly eight-legged essays.  The main content of the eight-legged essay is the classics and meanings, "Poems", "Books", "Rituals", "Yi" and "Spring and Autumn", select certain topics from the Five Classics for writing.  Both the topic and the way of writing have a certain format.  There are four paragraphs in the stereotyped essay, and each paragraph must have parallel sentences. The paragraphs with parallelism are called Sibi, and later they were also called stereotyped sentences.

The eight-legged essay was very important at the time. It was related to whether a person could be promoted, whether he could be promoted in the imperial examination.

A lot of long-winded, in fact, I just want to say that the road that Ding Erkang and Du Heng will embark on since they were eight years old is such a long and endless road, and this road is what they must do to realize their dreams.  through the road!  (Remember the site URL: www.hlnovel.com
