¡ª¡ªReading Xi Li's novel "Snow Robe"

    Song Yinxi

Snow is pure and gentle.  If there is no embrace of snow, how can the land wake up in spring?  If mom is on her way home, she must be tired.  If she is a wheat seedling, let the snow robe cover her ?

This is the hope, prayer and narration of a thirteen-year-old boy in the world of snow. His name is Zhou Xin;  With boundless dreams and longings for a pure white snow world, her name is Xili.

"Snow Robe" is a poetic novel full of innocence.  Because, as a writer, Xi Li is not only a poet, but also a novelist, just as poetry and novels are originally harmoniously integrated and interactive.  In the literary world, poetic romance has been struggling in the real world of suffering, dreaming of prosperous growth, full of hope in sadness.  From the perspective of poetic novels, "Snow Robe" tells people a story about the heavy snow covering the earth in the symbolic image composed of "snow" and "earth".  The heavy snow and the earth put us in a situation where dreams and reality, hope and suffering, innocence and cruelty, romance and reality are intertwined.  Perhaps, what Xili wants to tell is how to make dreams flourish in the midst of suffering and struggle.  It is often said that one must have a dream to live.  Life without dreams is boring and incomplete, even though, there are many dreams that we cannot *realize.  However, perhaps the biggest gain that dreams give us is not the real realization, but the power that dreams give us in the process of living with dreams.

What can the power of dreams support?  It can pull or lead us through the ice field of life and through all the memories of suffering.  Compared with beauty, people will always remember the memory of suffering more deeply. With the increase of age and life experience, some suffering will turn into green smoke, and some will be like wet moss. The more you wash it away  , it becomes more apparent.  In the struggle against suffering, a dream is not just a symbol full of longing, but a force to attack the future. It is unpredictable but actually remains deep in people's hearts, leading life to the next level.  Cross the ice field and get out of the misery.

This is the story about dreams that Xili's novel "Snow Robe" tells us. The thirteen-year-old protagonist Zhou Xin walks on the boundary between innocence and harsh reality.  wandering life.

Zhou Xin, who was originally studying in elementary school in a small mountain village, accidentally pushed Zhao Gui, who likes to make trouble, to the ground during a friction with his classmates.  Zhao Gui's head hit a stone, blood was flowing, Xiao Zhouxin mistakenly thought that he had beaten Zhao Gui to death, and fled in a panic. This is an opening with a metaphor of original sin, and it is also the beginning of suffering.  He lived a miserable wandering life in the southern city; during this period, he was caught by the "rat head", forced to steal, relied on picking up waste for a living, and was almost beaten to death by bad guys because of his resistance.  It wasn't until his father and the police found him and told him that Zhao Gui was not dead that he ended his wanderings and was with the father he admired in his heart. He returned to the rural town where he used to live, looking for the beauty of the past, looking forward to  The coming of the next spring.

The narrative background of "Snow Robe" is unfolded in the fierce conflict between urban and rural areas in contemporary China.  Xili gave the story of suffering a fairytale-like ending. However, what deserves our attention more is that the group of rural teenagers represented by Zhou Xin has a special name: left-behind children.  In the current society, both parents or one of the parents in rural families goes out to work, which has spawned and evolved such a group of left-behind children in rural areas, and the number is increasing day by day.  Left-behind children cannot get good living care, good education, and the warmth of their families.  When they are still young, they are faced with various cruel real problems such as being out of school, lack of source of income, mental health, and lack of security.  Xiao Zhouxin is a member of this group. His parents are not around all the year round, and he went south to work. Fortunately, he comes from a family of teachers. His grandfather, who was the former principal of Fenggu Middle School, taught him to have a kind and brave heart.  , to face all the dreams and sufferings that life brings.  However, most of the left-behind children grow up in a very unhealthy environment, so that in this group, the proportion of crimes increases year by year, and because a large number of young and strong laborers go out to work, a large area of ??rural land is barren, and the left-behind children face  What is more is the living state of constant vicious circle.  The appearance of Zhou Xin allows us to focus our attention on the plight faced by this special group, but in the face of the seemingly cruel world, Zhou Xin is portrayed as a fairy-tale image. He walks towards us with dreams and love.  Come.

In the days when he was imprisoned by the "Rat King" and could only be forced to steal, Zhou Xin was particularly witty and upright among the children. His friends naively called him "Ultraman".A fun but heroic name.  It was a dark day full of terror, and when several children were locked together, their conversations conveyed to us an innocence that only children can have.  That kind of pure power is fearless, like a beam of light shining in the dark, extremely bright.  What they talk about the most is the unrealistic fantasy in their minds. In the days when they were forced to steal and were beaten and abused, those illusions remained in the children's vision, leading them through the period that they should not have experienced.  day.  Afterwards, Zhou Xin successfully escaped from the "rat hole", and began to make a living by picking up scraps.  During this period, he met another vagrant, Beichuan, who left his hometown in search of his sister who disappeared in the earthquake.  The biggest commonality between Zhou Xin and Bei Chuan is that they both experienced life events about life and death and about rough fate when they were young.  This is not a suffering that a small heart can bear, but they have become good brothers who depend on each other and spent a different kind of childhood in an abandoned unfinished building.  Zhou Xin often compares the air of cities with the air of rural towns.  He always saw the hillside full of wildflowers in Fengzhen when he was dreaming, even though at that time he was actually sitting in a dark unfinished building, wearing old and dirty clothes.  During the period, he also helped Beichuan find his brother, rescued a beautiful model who fell into the water, and took care of Tintin, a poor girl who was abandoned by her drug-addicted mother.  While dreaming of the future, he spread the power of love in every place he had stopped, leaving traces of his dreams.  In the novel, he is a positive and upright and brave image with a fairy-tale meaning. A series of characters appearing around him, such as Jacques, A Huang, A Xing, etc., all surround him and are linked together by him, showing the  A panorama of the problems of teenagers growing up, such as confusion, rebellion, mental illness, lack of family warmth, etc.

Bildungsroman is a long-lasting theme style in traditional Western novels, and Xili narrates a current Chinese bildungsroman for us.  Everyone has to go through a lot of changes and struggles during their growth period before they gradually understand that growing up is actually a cruel and fascinating thing.  What "Snow Robe" shows is the growth mentality of rural children in today's tide of migrant workers.  Xili uses her usual poetic language to express the world in front of her from the perspective of a thirteen-year-old boy.  This is one of the highlights of the work. Children's eyes can better discover the darkness and deformity that adults have become accustomed to.  The whole work is not so much a novel as a long prose poem, with a large number of character dialogues to promote the progress of the plot. Those thoughts, memories and narrations about floating, singing, and snow robes make the text become  A piece of pure land that has not been polluted by worldly affairs in the heart of the young man.  The image of "Snow Robe", which is full of symbolic meanings, only appeared near the end of the work.  A group of children gather together and look forward to the future. They believe that this winter will definitely snow very thickly. The snow is like a huge robe, covering the vast land and filling up all the gullies.  For children, the deeper psychological expectation symbolized by "Snow Robe" is that snow can bring the best of everything, and can fill their deepest fears and scars.

The snow robe, becoming the incarnation of dreams, floats all over the sky and lands in the hearts of every child.

?Life has to go through a long course of suffering, and the painful memories of childhood will accompany you throughout your life, leaving a permanent mark. This is undoubtedly a cruel age.  What kind of psychological suffering will the left-behind children face in the future?  What kind of psychological defects do children growing up in unhealthy families have?  This is the thinking that Xili brought us while describing the beautiful snow robe for us.  The children's clear eyes and innocent childhood, how many glimmers are left in the residual memory?  At the end, Zhou Xin and his father searched for the memory of Fengzhen, but what they could find was a deep sense of loss and strangeness. There is no trace of snow, how many beautiful legends will childhood memories leave behind in the transformation of life?  Ten or twenty years later, will Zhou Xin still yearn for Xue's hug?

However, can dreams really fill or cover people's inner and real sufferings?  Just like can the heavy snow cover the vast land?  The answer is an eternally struggling question in people's minds.  Of course, dreams have an eternal light, but dreams alone are far from enough. The world has given people too many trials and tribulations, no matter where you are, whether you are young or not.  We look forward to the dream, longing for it to become a reality, and at the same time, our romantic feelings are gradually polished away by the cruel reality, and finally we are constantly struggling between dreams and suffering.  This is an eternal puzzle, worthy of our constant pursuit.

Nuoda¡¯s world may not be able to accommodate small dreams, but as long as there are dreams in our hearts, love and power will always remain deep in our hearts.  Life may be just a small wheat seedling, thank Xili for leading us into the world of Xiao Zhouxin, let the snow robe cover us, and breed the prosperity and fragrance of the next spring.
