    chapter 05

In the early morning of the next day, Ruan Nianchu was awakened by the noise on the roof.  She opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling with some vigilance and some confusion.  The morning light shone slightly into the room, and the roof was clanging and rustling, as if someone was walking around, jumping over nimbly and neatly.

Ruan Nianchu realized that it was that person.  During these days, he either slept on the floor or on the roof.

Sure enough, a tall figure quickly jumped down from the roof.  Her eyes followed the figure, and she saw the man standing outside the window for a while. After a while, someone said something in Khmer in the distance. He nodded lightly, and the sound of footsteps gradually faded away.

As soon as Li Teng left, Ruan Nianchu got up, washed up briefly, and the sky outside was already bright.

She had nothing to do, so she sat on a chair, fiddled with the rice flowers in the vase, and stared at the sky in a daze.

She once thought about contacting the outside world.  But her mobile phone was missing, and she had no other communication equipment, so she could only choose to give up.  Today is the seventh day she has been tied up here. In this place, she has food and drink, and her life is temporarily safe, but every minute and every hour here is a mental torture for her.

Only Ruan Nianchu knows how much strength she needs to support herself under the calm surface.

She never gave up running away for a moment.  Whenever this idea is swallowed by hesitation and despair, she will try her best to recall everything in her hometown.  The land of China, the wind of Yuncheng, the white sideburns and nagging of parents

Everything here is just a nightmare, which will pass and be forgotten.

Ruan Nianchu gathered his five fingers together, and tightly grasped the rice flower in his palm.

At noon, the boy named Tori did not appear.  Usually, the time for Tori to deliver meals is around 12:10, but now, the hour hand on the wall has pointed to one, and the boy is still missing.

She was a little hungry, and looked outside the house one after another.  In the end, around one thirty, it was Ah Xin's mother-in-law who brought her today's lunch.

Ruan Nianchu smiled, and thanked her mother-in-law.

Grandma Ah Xin smiled on her old face, looked at her carefully, and then said in Khmer, "You are so beautiful in this dress."

Ruan Nianchu didn't understand what her mother-in-law said.  But seeing her mother-in-law staring at her all the time, she suddenly remembered something.  She was slightly embarrassed, "Oh I forgot to thank you for this skirt. Thank you."

Grandma Ah Xin smiled but did not answer.

Ruan Nianchu was stunned for a moment before realizing, "Forget that you don't understand" He paused for a while, recalled the Khmer language Tori taught himself, and managed to squeeze out a Khmer word: "Thank you." After finishing speaking,  Pointing to the sarong skirt on her body.

Ah Xin waved her hand, sat beside her with a quiet smile, and waited for Ruan Nianchu to finish eating before she packed up the dishes and left.  Teenage Tori never showed up.

Probably because there are other things that I can't get away from.  Ruan Nianchu pondered, at that time, she didn't think much about it.

At almost six o'clock in the afternoon, there was a rush of footsteps coming towards the bamboo house where she was, followed by a "bang bang" knock on the door.  She opened the door, and there was a strange boy standing outside, with round eyes and dark skin, who looked younger than Tori.

In recent days, because of Tori's appearance, Ruan Nianchu's impression of these children has changed greatly.  She frowned slightly, and looked at the strange boy suspiciously.

The boy looked anxious, and while gesticulating with his hands, he squeezed out English words: "Tori is ill!"

Ruan Nianchu's heart sank, "is it serious?"

The boy nodded, "fevercough" Turning around and running away as he spoke, he waved at her, "come with me! quick!"

Ruan Nianchu remained silent for a few seconds, bit his lips and said, "wait." After speaking, he re-entered the room.

She walked to the cabinet and opened the last drawer on the left.  An umbrella knife with a cold light was wrapped in a scabbard, lying quietly inside, it was the one given to Lee by Mr. Tuvaa before.  The day before yesterday, she had nothing to do and cleaned the house, and found this knife by accident.  She took out the knife, pinned it inside the wide belt around her waist, collected herself, and followed the boy away.

    *

The boy led her through the camp without saying a word.  The sky is getting darker, and gradually, no one else can be seen around.

Ruan Nianchu frowned, vaguely aware that something was wrong, stood still and stopped moving forward, and said in English: "Where is Tori?"

The teenager looked back at her, grinning, but did not speak.  Ruan Nianchu was terrified by the child's smile, turned around and wanted to run, but bumped into a thick human wall.

is a sturdy man, besides him, there are four or five around.  Ruan Nian?Hands, spread out.  The palm is wide and covered with a thick layer of hard calluses. The five fingers are very slender with well-defined joints and the nails are neatly trimmed.

Ruan Nianchu didn't understand, "what are you doing?"

Li Teng glanced at the roof, very coldly, "Can you climb up by yourself?"

"" She was speechless. After a few seconds, she found a broken bench from somewhere, stood on it, stood on tiptoe, and squeezed his hand with both hands.  The movements were dull and the figure was uncoordinated. He thought it was funny, so he snorted and let go of her hand.

Ruan Nianchu was startled, but before he recovered, Li Teng's pair of big hands had already passed through her armpits, grasped the soft shoulders on both sides, and lifted her up directly with all his strength.

Her eyes flickered slightly, she was embarrassed, and a blush suddenly appeared on her cheeks.

This action shortened the distance between the two for an instant.  Li Teng tilted his head, and the breath he exhaled seemed to brush her earlobe.  His tone was very light, "Stupid enough."

    Ruan Nianchu: ""

He quickly let her go, looked back at the knife in his hand, and wiped it with a cloth, "Say it, you want to talk about something."

She frowned, moved, and moved herself further away from him. After a moment of hesitation, she whispered: "you helped me several times. Thank you."

    Li Teng said, "No need."

"My name is Ruan Nianchu." Out of politeness, she introduced herself first, "What about you?"

Li Teng glanced at her, "Don't you know?"

    She frowned slightly, "lee?"

He lit a cigarette, remained silent for a few seconds, and said two words: "Li Teng."

Li Teng.  Ruan Nianchu said the name silently in his heart, nodded, hesitated for a moment, and said, "Actually, I want to ask you something today."

    He responded indifferently, "Yeah."

"The umbrella knife in your hand," Ruan Nianchu pointed, "is that the one that Grandpa gave you before?"

Li Teng was expressionless, rubbed the blade unconsciously, and slowly brushed the engraving on it with his fingertips, and replied indifferently: "Yes."

"Then," Ruan Nianchu was silent, and after a while, she groped around her waist for a while, then raised her eyes.  Looking straight into those bottomless eyes, "What's going on with this one?"

Li Teng lowered his head, half-closed his eyes, and his pupils shrank for a moment.

In his hand and hers, there were two identical 99-type airborne paratrooper knives lying on them. The words "Chinese Air Force" on the knife were very clear under the moonlight.  (Remember the site URL: www.hlnovel.com
