    "The time is just right!"

Audiences who have just turned on the TV to watch "The Daily Show" at this time will have this idea. Today's guest on the show is Ye Wei. He has been waiting for a long time. His last guest appearance was a year and a half ago, and the classic interview footage  It has been circulated on the Internet, and movie fans are in awe of it. What will he do this time?

Just looking at the two people sitting there, the audience couldn't help but smile.

"What should I call you?" On the TV screen, Jon shook the pen uncertainly, "Weige Ye? Unique Culler? Or is it your nickname Doctor Who?"

"Whatever you like." Ye Wei shrugged slightly, "This is a democratic country, although many institutions refute my point of view."

There was a burst of laughter in the studio, and the audience knew that he was mocking MPAA, and maybe there was something else.

"You still believe it?" Jon looked at the audience with a surprised look, "What an idiot. Forgive him, the information from ethnic minorities always lags behind."

The audience inside and outside the TV laughed one after another, and the interest became even higher. Jon attacked!  He will not let viy go!  Ye Wei was stunned for a moment, "What a white man." While the audience burst into laughter, Jon whispered with a ferocious face: "I am a Jew."

Amid the cheers from the audience, both of them couldn't help laughing.  Jon continued: "Why this idea? Dual identity?"

"Nothing surprising, you know we all have dual identities." Ye Wei's calm face looked both serious and calm, "Jennifer Garner used a dual identity to be a spy, and you used a dual identity to participate in makeup sex-  Love to party, and I use my dual identity to make movies.¡±

At this moment, the whole audience burst into laughter again, and the TV audience also burst into laughter. They knew, knew that viy would not make Jon look good!

Jon was suddenly horrified. He threw up his hands and the pen flew away, "How did you know!? You were there too!?"

The audience couldn't stop laughing, and Ye Wei made a helpless expression, "Tabloids, Jon! They even reported that you were pretending to be The Flash."

The meaning of "The Flash" made the audience laugh completely crazy, and there were applause and shouts.

"Oh" Jon breathed out, his expression dulled, and his tone was filled with fear: "I was scared to death, I thought that was you" The laughter couldn't stop!

"I won't go to that kind of place, I'm making a movie." Ye Wei answered calmly, which made the audience burst into applause.  Jon asked with a frown: "Eyes Wide Shut?" Ye Wei said with disgust: "That movie is a disaster, just a daydream-style sexual fantasy. I prefer "The Ice Storm", oh no  ¡I didn¡¯t say Spider-Man was me.¡±

The audience laughed and shouted, but most of them were just cheering and could not fully understand the humor of this statement.  Both movies discuss the theme of sexual liberation in the 1960s and 1970s. Tobey Maguire, one of the stars of "The Ice Storm", was the later Spider-Man.

Jon also smiled, showing his teeth in a very obscene manner. He patted the table and talked about tonight's theme: "Your new movie "Little Miss Sunshine" will be released soon. I watched it. It's really a movie."  Great movie, tell me about your performance?¡±

Ye Wei said seriously: "I play an exorcist. I continue to work for God. This is a huge new challenge." Jon felt bad and was startled: "Is there an exorcism?" Ye Wei shook his head and said: "Come on.  Jon, you haven't watched "Little Miss Sunshine" at all, and you haven't even read the synopsis of the story we gave you. I didn't star in it!"

Amidst the laughter of the audience, Jon sat up straight, put his hands on the table, expressionless, "I can explain"

"You haven't actually watched "Wedding Day", have you?" Ye Wei was surprised, "Dang-it, you watched "Eyes Wide Shut", but you didn't even watch the movie of the guest on the show."

There were a few beeps, and everything Jon said in depression was silenced. The audience continued to laugh, and Jon suddenly said loudly: "But I know that this movie really has many star actors, Tom Hanks,  Julia Roberts, Meryl Streepthey're all on the same set, what's it like to attend the Oscars every day?"

Ye Wei smiled, for the second time tonight, and said, "It's not every day. We don't work on weekends. After all, we have to attend the Oscars." The audience burst into laughter.

"Do they think you are a director?" Jon asked with a smile.

"Of course! They were really professional, and I tried to do my best work, and believe it or not, I even read a few parenting books, and when Julia Roberts got upset, I said to her, 'I want to get out of my  Are you getting some parenting experience here? 'She was like, 'Why not?'"

After the audience laughed, Ye Wei said seriously: "All our goalsAs long as the movie is made well, they are all reasonable people. Except for occasional creative differences, I can handle them by being reasonable. I am very lucky.  "

"'Little Miss Sunshine' has a legendary production process. More than a hundred middle school students crowdfunded the script and bought it, and you even released a documentary because of it." Jon said, suddenly going crazy and gritting his teeth, as if he was very jealous.  "I don't even have a documentary, but he has one!"

"162, 560,000." Ye Wei said, and the audience immediately shouted in admiration.

Ye Wei did not mean to make a joke on this topic, but smiled seriously: "At the beginning, each of us did things with passion, and we did not think much about the difficulties of buying the script and making it into a movie. We just knew that nothing was impossible.  This is why we dared to start. A lot of things happened later, which were completely different from the plan, but we survived and completed it. ¡±

The audience¡¯s applause was louder, and Jon didn¡¯t make a joke about it. He said the next topic: ¡°You have a lot of controversies now. You allow me to ask controversial questions. It seems that you are really not afraid.¡±

"What are you afraid of?" Ye Wei was a little funny.  Jon laughed a little: "What are your expectations for the box office of this movie? Ten million people will hear it" He chuckled and held back.

"You're talking about the US$100 million North American box office thing, right?" Ye Wei shrugged and frowned, "I was wrong about that, I was really wrong."

oh!  !  !  The audience at the scene exclaimed, and the audience in front of the TV also exclaimed, what's going on?  !  Viy said that he was wrong?  !  impossible!

Jon was stunned, and Ye Wei then raised his eyebrows and said: "The expectation of 100 million US dollars is wrong, it is too little. Since I am very confident, I am seriously correcting it now. Whoever wants it can get it. I am very interested in "Sunshine"  The North American box office of "Little Miss" is expected to be 130 million US dollars!"

"Ahhhh!!" The audience was already excited, as if they were about to overturn the studio. This is viy!

It¡¯s not just the 100 million that is interpreted by others, it¡¯s the 130 million that is said by one¡¯s own mouth!  North American box office!

    It¡¯s really wrong!

"You didn't drink?" On the TV screen, Jon leaned back as if he was frightened.

"No, every nerve of mine is very clear." Ye Wei smiled calmly, "If you can't achieve it, I will come next time. You can call me an idiot, and so will you."

The audience was even more excited. At this time, the program time limit was up. Jon suddenly looked at the camera and shouted with a smile: "Thank you Ye Wei and Unique Culler for being guests! "Little Miss Sunshine" will be released on Friday, November  Everyone remember to go see it on the 11th, it¡¯s such a good movie!¡±

Smiling Ye Wei stood up and shook hands with Jon. The two were still laughing and talking about something, but the camera zoomed out and the TV audience only heard the sound effects of the end of the program and the shouts of the audience.

    ¡¡

    excited!

viy¡¯s box office announcement is so exciting!  North America 130 million!

Just before the release of this lms, there is another bigger controversy!

Is it hype?  Not necessarily. If you can do it in the end, it will be cool and cool. If you can't do it, it will be like Tom Cruise making a fool of himself by jumping on the sofa on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in May this year.  Now, the media who are looking down on LMS have really been given a chance to make fun of him. Ye Wei finally went crazy and said he was arrogant and frivolous. Do you believe it now?  Too arrogant!

But after just experiencing the Yonik Kuhler trap incident, the media¡¯s wording was a little conservative. Could this be another trap?

In fact, the distribution department of DreamWorks was shocked. The declaration was really not in the publicity plan. Ye Wei once again shocked everyone, including himself.  Fortunately, it will not have a bad impact on LMS, because "The Daily Show" mainly has an influence on young people. This group will like young and frivolous people, and it will be released soon, so success or failure cannot be affected in this way.

So this matter is basically just about whether Ye Wei himself will become a laughing stock.

Speaking of box office expectations, for the North American box office of LMS, there are now voices from the outside world ranging from 50 million to 90 million.  But the question is what are the expectations of DreamWorks, Playtone, and the big guys?  How much box office does it take to be considered a commercial success?  Only everyone can make money?

To clarify these issues, we must first understand the two concepts of dividing the Hollywood profit cake, "no net income" and "no one can share from the total income."

To put it simply, "no net income" means that no matter whether the film is profitable or not, the big-name members can share a portion of the profit from the film's gross income (they sign a contract to share the gross profit after reaching the "cash break-even point")  , while most other creatives can get a part of the net profit, which is the "net profit point".

But in fact, no matter how profitable the film seems to be, these "net profit sharers" usually never get a penny, especially in major studio film projects.

This is because after many deductions for costs and gross profit sharing, even a profitable film will still lose a lot of money on its books.  The so-called net profit sharing has only become a kind of spiritual comfort and a status symbol: "I can finally share the net profit, and the next step is to share the gross profit."

Consider the case of "Gone in 60," a 2000 action film described as a "smash" in producer-distributor Disney's annual report (No. 3 in North American box office that year and No. 22 in the year), 9,000  10,000 production fee, 101 million North American/237 million global box office.

There can be no net profit from this box office.  Of that 237 million, theaters and distributors around the world took away 139 million, which is about 60%. Therefore, the powerful Disney only got about 100 million, or 40%.  After deducting 90.6 million in global distribution expenses from 100 million (including 67.4 million in publicity fees, 13 million in copy fees, 10.2 million in insurance, transportation, customs fees, etc.), only about 9.4 million in adjusted gross income remained.

At this time, the money can be divided. Buena Vista (Disney) takes 30% of the distribution fee, which is 2.82 million; the project's gold medal producer Jerry Bruckheimer and superstar Nicolas Cage share another 30%, which is also 2.82 million. Then  There are only 3.76 million left, and there is a loss of 86.24 million on the book. Where is the net profit?

After that, "Gone in 60 Seconds" sold another 198 million on DVDs, but only 39.6 million of them belonged to the film, because it could only get 20% of the royalties from all audiovisual and DVD revenue from Buena Vista Home Entertainment, and the other 1.584.  All the money belongs to Disney, and this revenue has to be deducted from the cost of 19.7 million (about 50%). Cage, who has a 5% gross profit dividend, takes away 3.9 million. In the end, its audio-visual revenue is only 16 million, still losing 7024  Ten thousand.

Its TV premium channel first broadcast rights were sold for 18 million, deducting 2.7 million in deferred wages for actors and unions, and 149,000 in costs. About 50,000 belongs to the film, not counting the arrears of gross profit sharing and the 10% annual interest rate.  , it still lost 55.09 million!

Although the film generated a gross revenue of RMB 450 million, those who shared the net profit could only curse.

¡°Did ¡°Gone in 60 Seconds¡± really lose money?  Of course not. The Disney Group, which integrates production and all distribution, actually received a large sum of money from it, but it was only allocated on its books to its various subsidiaries such as Buena Vista and Buena Vista Home Entertainment.

Bruckheimer and Cage also benefit greatly from fixed salaries and gross profit sharing.  Those who share the net profit also receive a fixed salary, so everyone is still happy, but don't be so foolish as to believe that you can really share the money.

But when the production fee of 0.9 billion/global box office of 23.7 billion occurs to independent film companies, it will be very difficult unless the distribution fee is very small.  Because independent companies do not have group-style distribution channels, they cannot eat the cake by themselves. In the end, they really can¡¯t make any money.  This is the main reason why it is difficult for independent companies to survive. The busy work is to work for celebrities.

¡°How many studios have we brought down?¡± Brad Pitt and George Clooney often joke with each other.

Precisely because there is usually no net income, when a film does, there is even a bonus!  That's so valuable. It's the most popular way for movie companies and filmmakers to make everyone happy to get money.

"No one can get a share of the total income" means that no matter how famous or famous you are, Spielberg, Bruckheimer, Hanks, Cruise no one can get a share of the unadjusted gross income.  This is true for box office, audio and video, and all peripherals.

It can only be divided when certain conditions are met, such as the film earning back its fixed salary expenditure, or the current mainstream reaching the cash break-even point stipulated in the contract.

If the balance point is set at $1, this means that as long as the film recovers the distribution fee, the money can start to be divided.  But this is a dream, and the balance point is often set very high, enough for producers to recover most of the production fees.  And not only do different films have different balance points, but different people in the same film also have different balance points.

It is not based on finance or anything, but based on a Hollywood dogma: "People with power have the right to make the rules."

So the person with the most power gets the lowest balance point. Tom Hanks¡¯s can be $1, but Tom Skehan¡¯s is $100 million.  This allows the person with the greatest power to get the share first, and this part of the money is also included in the cost of others, making it more difficult for others to reach a higher balance point.

Therefore, the less powerful a person is, the less likely he is to receive a gross profit share, because the conditions will never be met.  The terms of gross profit sharing have also been reduced to spiritual comfort and status symbols: "At least I have a balance point, and the next step is the lowest balance point."

In Woody Allen's comedy "Hollywood Ending", the protagonist director Waxman played by him has a balance point four times that of a big-name star, in order to poke fun at the difference between directors and superstars.

Waksman¡¯s is four times, and Ye Wei has no balance point of his own, because his contract does not have a gross profit dividend clause at all.

"Little Miss Sunshine" has only??Hanks and Roberts have it, and both are $1. As long as there is $1 of adjusted cash profit, they can take 30% of it, 15% each.  This is only the global box office, other audio and video parts have other calculations.

Gary Goetzman, Alan Arkin, Tim Roth, Meryl Streep, and Hans Zimmer are the ones who will share the net profit, but the amount will not be much, equivalent to a possible  Just a bonus.  Ye Wei personally did not score anything. The fixed salary was a symbolic US$1 and there was no deferred salary. He wanted the opportunity without any money.

Other crew members only have fixed remuneration and union commissions, as well as possible bonuses after high profits.

How much North American box office does LMS need to collect to see a net profit?  A rough calculation, [x(1-60%)-15 million]*(1-60%)-6 million>0

Calculating 40% of the box office share, 30% of the distribution commission of DreamWorks, and 30% of the big-name gross profit share, 6 million is the production fee (51% from Pretone, 25% from DreamWorks, 16% from DreamWorks, 5% from Super Machine, and  Le Dianping Film 3%), 15 million is the promotion and distribution fee (12 million promotion fee, 3 million distribution fee), this is already the greatest capability of DreamWorks today.

The result of the formula is$75 million.

It is exactly the evaluation expectation of many professional institutions. Wall Street sees the price as high as 90 million because it wants to make more money.

If it is 75 million, there will only be a gross profit of 15 million. DreamWorks can earn 4.5 million distribution shares, and Hanks and Roberts can each receive 2.25 million shares.  What the producers got was zero, and those who were waiting to share the net profit and distribute bonuses were all zero.

But don¡¯t forget that this is only the North American box office. If the global box office is good, the revenue can be doubled on this basis. Taking into account the income from audiovisual and TV copyrights, the two superstars can probably earn tens of millions of dollars.  While that's a far cry from their respective net worths, Preston is the lead producer and Roberts has other interests.

There is another premise: LMS is not a commercial blockbuster such as "Gone in 60 Seconds", but a literary and artistic film aimed at the awards season. It is not easy to do this with this distribution fee.

"If 75 million is a mutual agreement, no one will be too excited, but they will be satisfied with the goods. Ye Wei did not mess up, he is really a movie genius.

So when the North American box office is 100 million, the producer will have a net profit of 4 million, and those who share the gross profit will get more. Others also see the hope of sharing the money, and they will definitely share it!  Of course everyone was excited, Ye Wei was a gold mine, he was making a lot of money!

If it is the crazy 130 million that Ye Wei called out, the producer can have a net profit of 8.8 million, and anyone who can split the money can split it. The two superstars each have a revenue of 5.55 million from the North American box office alone, and the total revenue is also okay  Seeing 20 million, he made money and his net worth rose sharply.

In today¡¯s world, if an independent literary film can make a lot of money just by taking the North American box office, it also shows huge profit potential in other markets, and there is still hope of winning awardshow many people will be so happy that they burst out laughing!  Ye Wei?  This time it was a $1 salary, and next time it was a balance of $1, from the least power to the greatest power.

??The top management of the major studio immediately admitted their mistake and apologized, treated them to dinner, invited the whole family to travel together, and signed a film contract, signed a film contract, signed a film contract!

Actors are flocking here, geniuses, please cooperate!  I heard that starring in your movie will bring you fame and net profit.

That¡¯s really hot, a new generation of power
