¡°What does LHC mean?¡± Zhiqiu tried his best to hide his uneasiness.

"The Large Hadron Collider," Chen Luoyu said coldly, "a particle accelerator."

Particle accelerator?  So the institute also has a particle accelerator?  Zhiqiu was thinking about it when the elevator started to descend again.  A circular tube for hitting particles, and he wondered why they had to bury it underground.

The elevator stopped with a bang. Zhiqiu felt the floor under his feet and felt relieved.  However, as the elevator door slowly slid open, this sense of relaxation quickly disappeared without a trace.  Zhiqiu found himself in a strange world again.

This is a flat cement passage that extends infinitely to the left and right, wide enough for an 18-year-old car to pass through.  Wherever they stood, the lights came on, but after they passed by, it was dark.  The dark wind blew and rustled, reminding them from time to time that they were deep underground. Zhiqiu could almost feel the weight of the gravel and stones above his head.  For a moment, he returned to the time when he was nine years oldThe darkness brought him backback to the darkness and lingering shadow that had suffocated him for five hours.  He clenched his fist tightly, determined to fight it away.

From the moment he stepped out of the elevator to now, Momo remained silent and just strode forward in the darkness, leaving them far behind.  The fluorescent lights on the top of the head flickered all the way, illuminating her path forward. This was really unsettling. Zhiqiu couldn't help but sigh in her heart. This passage seemed to be alive She was eagerly looking forward to her every step, and Zhiqiu couldn't help feeling.  Qiu and Chen Luoyu followed from a distance, and the lights behind them automatically went out.

"That particle accelerator," Zhiqiu asked softly, "is it in front of this passage?"

"It's right here." Chen Luoyu pointed to the left.  A chrome steel pipe ran along the interior wall of the passage, gleaming in the dark.

Zhiqiu took advantage of the situation and took a look.  Very puzzled.  "Is this an accelerator?" This device was nothing like what he imagined. The pipe was extremely straight, about ten centimeters in diameter, extending horizontally forward in the channel and disappearing into the darkness ahead. The high-tech sewage pipe was still there.  Almost the same, Zhiqiu thought to himself.  "I thought particle accelerators were round."

"This accelerator is circular," Chen Luoyu explained. "It looks straight, but this is just a visual illusion. The circumference of this channel is too big. It is so big that we can hardly see its curvature - just  Like we see the Earth.¡±

Zhiqiu was dumbfounded.  Is this a circle?  "But God! It's really too big!"

¡°The Large Hadron Collider is the largest instrument in the world.¡±

These words reminded Zhiqiu of a scene. He remembered hearing the pilot of the research institute talking about a huge instrument buried underground.  but¡ª¡ª

"Its diameter is more than 8,000 metersand it is 27,000 meters long."

Zhiqiu¡¯s brain was spinning rapidly, ¡°Twenty-seven thousand meters?¡± He stared at the director, then turned and stared at the dark passage in front, ¡°Is this passage twenty-seven thousand meters long?¡±

Chen Luoyu nodded.  Said: "This tunnel is dug into a standard circle. Starting from this point and going back once, it is equivalent to running through the streets and alleys of France. The particles moving at full speed before the collision can rotate 10,000 times in one second.  Many laps.¡±

Zhiqiu stared at the passage in front of him dumbfounded, and couldn't help but feel weak on his feet, "Are you saying that the research institute excavated millions of tons of soil just to allow these tiny particles to collide?"

Chen Luoyu shrugged.  ¡°Sometimes we have to move mountains and fill seas to discover the truth.¡±

In a place thousands of miles away from the research institute, the intercom crackled.  "Okay. I'm in the hallway."

The technician checked the surveillance screen again and again while pressing the button on the intercom, "The camera No. 86 you are looking for should be at the very back."

There was no response from the receiver, and a thin layer of hair appeared on the technician's forehead.  Finally, the receiver beeped.

¡°The camera isn¡¯t here,¡± a voice came over.  "But I can see where it was installed before and someone must have moved it."

The technician took a long breath and said, "Thank you, don't hang up the phone yet, okay?"

He sighed and turned his attention to the row of monitor screens in front of him again.  They had lost a few wireless cameras before, and most of the building was open to the public, so pranksters could steal them as souvenirs.  Once the camera is moved away from the device and out of the effective range, it will no longer be able to receive and transmit signals, and the corresponding screen will be blank.  The technician stared at the monitor in front of him, puzzled. It was strange that he actually saw eightyThe picture transmitted by camera No. 6 is very clear.

If the camera was stolen, he thought, how could it receive a signal?  He knew that, yes, there was only one explanation, and that was that the camera was still in the building area, but someone had just moved it.  Who did it?  Why do this?

He studied the monitor carefully for a while, then picked up the intercom and asked: "Is there a closet in the corridor? A cupboard or something black?"

A confused voice replied: "No, what's wrong?"

The technician frowned and said, "Nothing, thank you for your help." He turned off the intercom and pouted.

The camera is so small and wireless. The technician knows that camera No. 86 may be hidden in any corner of this heavily guarded building area - this is a densely packed area of ??32 ** buildings within a radius of half a mile.  The building area.  The only clue is that the camera seems to be placed in a dark place, but of course, this is of no use.  There are countless dark areas in the complex - maintenance rooms, heating ducts, gardening sheds, bedroom closets, and the maze of underground tunnels. It will take at least several weeks to find where Camera No. 86 is.

¡°It¡¯s not my problem anyway,¡± he comforted himself.

In addition to the problem of finding the camera, there is another more difficult thing at the moment.  The technician squinted his eyes and stared at the picture returned by the missing camera. It was a fixed device, a piece of equipment that looked quite modern. He seemed to have never seen anything like this before.  He carefully studied a flickering object at the bottom of the electronic instrument.

Although this guard has gone through countless rigorous training tests to deal with various tense situations, now, he clearly feels his heartbeat speeding up.  He told himself not to make a fuss, there would always be an answer, and since the object was so small, what big danger could there be?  Not enough to be afraid of.  He read it again. Something bad was going on. It was absolutely true. A disaster was coming.

Why did it happen to be lost today, he thought to himself.

Safety has always been a top priority for his bosses, but today, it was more important than any day in the past twelve years.  The technician stared at the device with wide eyes for a long time, as if aware of the rumbling sound of the storm coming from far away.

Then, sweating profusely, he dialed his boss¡¯s phone number.

Not many children dare to say that they remember the day they first met their father, but Momo still remembers it vividly.  It was a rainy day when she was eight years old. At that time, she was still living in an orphanage. She seems to have stayed here as long as she can remember, because she was cruelly abandoned by parents she had never met before she was born.  The staff of the orphanage called her twice to have dinner, but she always pretended not to hear, lying in the yard outside, staring blankly at the raindrops falling from the skyfeeling that they were falling on her  On my body I wonder where the next drop of rain will fall.  The employee yelled again, scaring her that pneumonia would help a lawless and stubborn child like her to have less bizarre thoughts.

I can¡¯t hear you, Momo thought.

She was soaked all over, and suddenly a young clergyman ran up to her.  He was new here and she hadn't seen him before.  Momo waited for him to grab her and drag her back to the house.  But he didn't do that. On the contrary, to her surprise, he actually lay down next to her, his robe dragged into the puddle.

"They say you always ask a lot of questions." The young clergyman said softly.

Momo frowned angrily.  ¡°Is it wrong to ask questions?¡±

The clergyman burst out laughing, "It seems they are right."

    "Why did you run out?"

¡°I¡¯ll learn from you and think about why the raindrops fall.¡±

"I don't think about why they fell, because I already know it."

The clergyman looked at her in surprise, "You know?"

"Some people say that rain was originally the tears of angels. They dripped down to cleanse the sins we have committed."

    ¡°Ouch!¡± he exclaimed, ¡°That¡¯s it.¡±

"That's not true!" the girl retorted.  ¡°Raindrops fall because anything falls, everything falls, not just rain!¡±

The clergymen scratched their heads, puzzled.  "You know, little girl, you're right, anything falls down because of gravity."

    "What's the reason?"

He looked at her in surprise again, "Have you never heard of gravity?"

    "No."

The clergy shrugged.? said: "Too bad, gravity can explain a lot of things."

Momo sat up suddenly.  "What is gravity?" she asked, "Tell me!"

The clergyman blinked and said, "How about I tell you after dinner?"

This young clergyman is Yang Fuchuan.  Although the physics student won many awards during his college years, he still heeded the call of another voice.  Somehow, they magically became best friends.  ()
