Chapter 353: Allied Forces Retake Burma (15)

The entire front line of Chinese tanks was pushed forward in an arc, and the Japanese anti-tank trenches on the periphery were filled with sandbags by the accompanying mechanical infantry to pave a road.  The tanks directly rolled over the sandbags and crossed the anti-tank ditch.  The moving steel fortress roared close to the Japanese trenches. The Japanese infantry, which lacked anti-tank weapons, could only stare blankly in the face of the behemoth tanks.

A dense stream of bullets was fired from the outer bunker. It was the fearful Japanese soldiers who desperately shot the bullets out of the barrel in order to be brave.  The Chinese tanks were hit by bullets on the thick armor, just like they were missing something, but the tanks rushed forward without any damage.  The wide tracks rolled directly onto the Japanese bunker, and the solid bunker was directly crushed by the tank weighing more than 30 tons.

The tracks of the tank rolled over the collapsed Japanese bunker, kicked up a cloud of dust and flesh, and rushed towards the trench.  The huge figure of the roaring tank climbed up to the Japanese position ferociously. Almost no Japanese soldiers in the trench stopped for any longer, turned around and retreated along the trench.

The tank roared across the trench, and the mechanical infantry following the tank sprayed submachine gun bullets at the remaining Japanese soldiers in the trench. The dense and violent rain of bullets mopped down the Japanese soldiers one by one.  The Japanese soldiers who were holding gun bags and wanted to blow up the tanks were hit by dense bullets and fell unwillingly in a pool of blood.

Some wounded Japanese soldiers, carrying their rifle bags, crawled towards the tank step by step. However, before they could get close to the tank, they were swept up into a hornet's nest by the rushing infantry with submachine guns.

Three armored divisions on the southern front broke through the Japanese second line of defense and prepared to advance into the city.

On the northern front, the infantry of the New 30th Division and the New 38th Division successively broke through the Japanese second line of defense. At this point, all the Japanese positions in Moulmein fell on the periphery, and the war burned towards the city.

Sun Liren did not blindly order a storm at this time. At the second line of defense of the Japanese army, various units of the Chinese Expeditionary Force suspended their attacks and began to count the wounded and weapons and ammunition.  With the help of US military aircraft, the wounded were quickly transferred to the Allied Field Hospital in Mandalay for treatment.

In the urban area of ??Mawlamyine, the office building of the British HSBC Bank is now the headquarters of the Japanese 62nd Division.  Lieutenant General Yoshio Hongo learned that the Japanese defenders were once again forced to abandon the second line of defense. The Lieutenant General already understood that the situation was over.  It was only a matter of time before the Chinese ** team attacked.

But as a Japanese soldier, the Bushido spirit of fighting to the end drove him to make his final effort.  The lieutenant general issued a series of orders, which in summary were to shrink the troops, defend the city, and prepare for street fighting.

There are many high-rise buildings in the western coastal area of ??Mawlamyine. Foreigners have built many reinforced concrete buildings here. Lieutenant General Hongang places the focus of defense here. The defense areas of the 527th Infantry Regiment and the 528th Infantry Regiment are in this area.

The 526th Infantry Regiment (the Zhongsen Regiment) is located in the eastern urban area of ??Mawlamyine. The boundary between the defense zones of both sides is Block 7. The 526th Infantry Regiment is responsible for the east, and the 527th and 528th Regiments are responsible for the west.

Starting from dusk that day, the Chinese army suspended the attack and began to clean up the outer battlefield.  That night, Moulmein spent a quiet night. None of the Japanese soldiers, including the commander, knew that maybe tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, Moulmein would become the burial place of the imperial army.

At dawn the next day, U.S. bombers came to Moulmein. The U.S. pilots lowered the plane so low that it almost flew over the high-rise buildings in the city.  As the wings of the plane swayed, rows of bombs on the plane landed densely in the neighborhoods controlled by the Japanese army in free fall.

Suddenly, smoke and dust billowed in the city, and fire flickered. Many buildings collapsed into ruins under the destruction of high-explosive bombs.  The US military pilots used high-explosive bombs to greet the Japanese troops in the city. The plane blew a beautiful kiss and passed over the camp outside the city.

The U.S. military aircraft also brought boxes of ammunition, cans, as well as additional grenade launchers and flat-fire cannons to the squadron.  Outside the city, beautiful umbrella flowers are floating in the sky, and below are large and heavy iron boxes.

On this day, the army still did not launch an attack, but calmly replenished ammunition and waited for the strongest blow.

At nine o'clock in the morning on the third day, the artillery of the Chinese Army, including tank guns, opened fire on the Japanese urban areas across the board.  The northern line artillery group concentrated its firepower on the library, the commanding heights of the city.  After 30 minutes of shelling, the artillery fire suddenly moved to the front line of the Japanese defense, and dense shells roared and fell on the Japanese defense positions.

After the ** soldiers extended their artillery fire, the two infantry divisions of the New First Army each launched an attack on the Japanese positions facing them.  The New 30th Division and the New 38th Division selected several main streets as their main attack directions.

There are not many high-rise buildings in the defense area of ??the Japanese 526th Regiment, almost all of which are bungalows. Under the cover of heavy machine guns, a company launched an attack on Street No. 1.

The company commander first brought up two flat-firing cannons, pointed at the bunker at the street entrance in front, and said, "Knock on me."?It!  "The gunner took aim briefly, loaded the gun, and "boom boom" the fire flashed, and the two shells blasted past. The smoke dissipated, and the Japanese bunker was unscathed. It still spat out tongues of fire crazily.

The flat artillery bombarded more than a dozen shells in a row, and two of them hit the top of the bunker. The rubble on the top fell down, burying the Japanese soldiers inside.  A platoon of Japanese soldiers immediately rushed forward. Unexpectedly, although the Japanese bunker collapsed, a Japanese soldier was not crushed to death because there happened to be a stone bar leaning against it in the corner.  He stubbornly fired a bullet from the ruins of the bunker, and the head of a Japanese soldier at the front was immediately blown off.

The soldiers behind quickly fell to the ground. A Japanese soldier eagerly loaded the grenade launcher, pointed it at the gap in the ruins of the bunker, and fired three grenades in a row. Amidst the continuous explosions of "boom, boom, boom",  The ruins were completely turned over.

A platoon of Japanese soldiers immediately seized the ruins of the broken wall around the bunker and started shooting at the Japanese soldiers from the bunker.  Within ten minutes, the Japanese soldiers at the outpost were shot dead.

A company of Japanese soldiers occupied the houses and ruins around the bunker, leaving a few soldiers to defend while the remaining soldiers continued to attack.

On the southern front, the three divisions of the Armored Corps were deployed across the entire line. The tanks and armored vehicles were dispersed into small groups. With the cooperation of the accompanying infantry, they launched a fierce attack on the streets guarded by the Japanese army.

Tank guns kept bombarding the Japanese firepower points that were spitting fire, clearing obstacles for the infantry.  But there were too many tall buildings in this neighborhood, and the infantry's progress was slow.

The 2nd Regiment of the 1st Armored Division, led by the regiment commander, advanced along the coastline toward Jikanme.  The Japanese defense here was weak, and the armored regiment approached the outskirts of Jikanme with little effort.

There were only 300 Japanese defenders in Jikanme, and there were no anti-tank weapons. The armored regiment rushed directly into Jikanme. The Japanese troops in the town were defeated by tank machine gun fire.  Dozens of tanks surrounded them from all sides. The Japanese soldiers had almost no power to fight back and were all wiped out by the Chinese tanks.

With the capture of Jikanmei, the Japanese army's maritime retreat route to the north was completely blocked, although the Japanese army was no longer able to organize a large-scale retreat of the defenders from Moulmein.

In the southern urban area, the two infantry regiments of the Japanese army defended very tenaciously. They relied on every house, every broken wall, and even every bomb crater to fight to the death.

In view of the tenacious resistance of the Japanese army, Commander Huang Wei proposed a new tactic. Under the cover of tanks and infantry, fire-breathing tanks were used at every attacking fire point to spray flames at the Japanese fire point.

For a time, the streets in the city were filled with smoke and dust and a sea of ??fire.  In this way, the ** burns a section, attacks a section, and occupies a section. The initiative on the battlefield is firmly in the hands of the **.  In Nancheng, facing the new tactics of the Chinese Army, the Japanese defenders were forced to adopt tactics of shrinking their troops and sticking to important strongholds.

This adjustment is exactly what General Huang Wei needs, so that the army can concentrate its troops and weapons to capture a stronghold in one go.

In Beicheng District, a battalion of the New 30th Division encountered resistance when attacking the library.  The battalion used rifle grenades to clear the barricades outside and attacked the library building with repeated failures.

The library was built by the British and has a uniform reinforced concrete structure.  The Japanese army set up barricades outside the library and set up machine gun fire points in the courtyard.  The library building was transformed into a giant bunker by the Japanese army.  The doors and windows on the first floor were all sealed, and from the second floor upwards, the windows were sealed with bricks and stones to form shooting holes.

There is a squadron of Japanese soldiers in the library. It is condescending and can control a radius of 1,000 meters, with an effective killing range of 600 meters.

**We made several strong attacks but were all repulsed.  Tang Shouzhi, the commander of the new 30th Division, was very anxious. In this picture, the Japanese soldiers had no cover at all.

Commander Tang was so determined that he called the commander of the artillery regiment and asked him to deploy 6 mountain cannons and shoot at close range to destroy the library.

The commander of the artillery regiment received the order from the division commander and personally rushed to the battlefield with six mountain cannons.

The commander of the artillery regiment personally measured the scale and believed that the artillery needed to be pushed to a distance of 300 meters, and this distance was an excellent shooting distance for Japanese riflemen.  The infantry battalion gritted its teeth and said, "Our infantry will push the artillery. You follow behind. It's up to you if the distance is suitable."

The battalion commander concentrated the light and heavy machine guns of the entire battalion to suppress the Japanese troops in the library, and covered the artillery to advance the artillery to a suitable distance.

The battalion commander also deployed sharpshooters, selected battle positions, and specialized in shooting Japs into the shooting holes.  This is very difficult and only acts as a threat and suppression.

Ready, on the offensive position, 800 meters away from the Japanese army, dozens of light and heavy machine guns opened fire at the same time.  Dozens of tongues of fire roared wildly and fired fiercely at the Japanese army.  For a moment, gunshots were heard and smoke filled the air.

The Japanese army's shooting holes spit out tongues of fire from time to time, counter-suppressing the enemy's firepower points.  The infantrymen wore steel helmets and braved Japanese bullets to push the artillery forward.  Artillery followed,He immediately jumped behind the broken wall.

After advancing for more than ten meters, six of the infantrymen pushing the cannon were sacrificed. Then six infantrymen came up and pushed the cannon forward tenaciously.  The artillery was finally pushed into place, but the infantrymen pushing the artillery had already lost more than 30 people.  Blood stained the road behind the cannon.
