The weather in June is always so fickle. The sky is still clear in the morning, but suddenly turns cloudy in the afternoon.

    "Really bad."

Hopeless raised his head and narrowed his eyes.  He looked at the dark clouds that were quickly becoming thicker and made his own judgment.

"It looks like we can't leave anymore, so prepare to camp."

After leaving the small village, he and Little Red Riding Hood went north.  Although there was no delay along the way, there was still a third of the way through the forest.

Hopless didn¡¯t want to walk in the rain: Although there was a trail in the forest so he didn¡¯t have to worry about getting lost, the slippery ground and poor visibility still made it very dangerous to walk in the rain.

So he picked a roadside open space and unloaded his luggage there.

"Okay~ Leave the camp to me!"

Hearing the hunter¡¯s decision, Little Red Riding Hood touched her heels in an exaggerated manner.  She stood upright with a snap, then raised her right hand with a smile.

"What would you like to eat, teacher? How about bread and bacon?"

That sounds good, but it¡¯s not the best.

    "We are hunters, Susan."

Hopeless picked up the shotgun and patted Little Red Riding Hood on the head.

    "We have better options."

    "Eh?"

He went into the forest to find prey.  It only took less than half an hour. Before Little Red Riding Hood could set up the tent and light the campfire, he had already returned with two grouse in his arms.

He shot down these two unlucky guys with bullets and turned them into his dinner.

    "We eat this."

He found a nearby creek and used a hunting knife to deal with the two birds.

After plucking the feathers and cleaning the internal organs, he handed the two grouse to Little Red Riding Hood, and asked her to take out the iron drill and grill from the bag and put them on the fire to roast them.

The rich fat in grouse meat makes them fragrant quickly: under the flames, their outer skin is roasted until golden and crispy, while the meat inside is still tender and juicy.

Little Red Riding Hood hummed happily and applied the seasoning to the chicken: as the iron drill turned, the oil began to sizzle, making a pleasant sound.

Hopless took out the wooden cup from his luggage and scooped water from the stream.  Because he moved quickly enough, he finished everything before it started to rain.  So when the first drop of rain fell, he and Little Red Riding Hood were already sitting under the tent and began to enjoy the steaming roast chicken.

"It looks like it's raining a lot."

The tent was set up by Little Red Riding Hood, and the result was pretty good.

To save time, she found a branch with just the right height and shape.  After cutting off the excess branches with a knife and ax, she put the tent cloth on top to form a herringbone shape.

Then she found a lot of dead branches and trunks and placed them on the ground to separate the ground.  A shallow drainage channel was also dug to prevent rainwater from accumulating under the tent.

    ¡°It¡¯s indeed not small.¡±

The hunter opened the curtain and took a look outside.  He saw that the sky, which had been bright not long ago, was now completely dark.

    ¡°It¡¯s only afternoon, right?¡±

The sky is almost the same as in the evening: no matter how arbitrary the summer rains are, this situation is by no means normal.

    "Well~ come on! Teacher! Ah~~~"

But unlike the hunter¡¯s caution, Little Red Riding Hood didn¡¯t think too much.  While the hunter was observing the rain, she had already torn off a piece of chicken, then pinched it with her hands and brought it to the hunter's mouth with a smile.

    "Don't be ridiculous."

The hunter sighed helplessly, but he did not refuse.

He bit the chicken into his mouth and chewed it slowly.  The oil and salt mixed well on his tongue - in the hungry state, the taste was so delicious that it even made the hunter's eyes light up.

"How is it! Is it delicious?"

    "good."

Hopless is not stingy with his praise.  He patted Little Red Riding Hood's head and gave a high-level evaluation.

"The heat is well controlled and the seasoning is just right. With this skill alone, I can even be an imperial chef."

    "Hehe~"

Little Red Riding Hood smiled evilly and picked up the second piece of meat.  But just when she was about to continue feeding Hopeless, the hunter suddenly looked outside.

    "somebody is coming."

    "Eh?"

Little Red Riding Hood was stunned and looked outside the tent.  But there was nothing but pouring rain and intense darkness.

And this is a forest?  Meeting someone on a rainy day?  What a coincidence, right?

    ""

Hopless picked up the shotgun and took out the bullets from the ammunition pouch.

They were two cylinders rolled out of cardboard, the diameter of which exactly matched the barrel of the gun.  Hunters pre-loaded gunpowder and projectiles there, using this method to save time on reloading.

He loaded the two bullets into the chamber and pulled the hammer.  The flint fixed on the steel frame is full of power due to this action: as long as the trigger is pulled next, it will hit the gunpowder pool with the help of the spring, igniting the gunpowder in the barrel.

Seeing Hopeless¡¯s actions, Little Red Riding Hood also became nervous.

She bit the meat in her mouth, and then picked up her flintlock gun - it was the gift she had received two years ago, the old gun that once belonged to Hopeless.

? Single barrel, old, but powerful and very reliable.

Like Hopeless, she took out a bullet from the ammunition pouch.  First, bite off the end and sprinkle the activating powder into the gunpowder pool.  Then insert the remaining part into the barrel of the gun with a purl.

The two of them remained vigilant and waited silently.

Soon, as Hopeless expected, a heavy and trivial footsteps disturbed the sound of rain and came from a distance.

    "more than one."

Hopeless licked the corners of his mouth, a little nervous.

Unlike Little Red Riding Hood who still doesn¡¯t understand, he can recognize the owner of those footsteps: they do not come from the same person.  And neither is very high.

    "It's a dwarf."

That¡¯s right, the hunter thought: only dwarves can hear footsteps like this.  Only their steps are so heavy, and only their steps are so frequent.

But what¡¯s going on?  Why do dwarves appear in the forest?

Hopeless had only seen dwarves once in his past life, but this one-time meeting left a deep impression on him: these dwarves are only 140 centimeters tall, but can generally grow to 16  A ten-pound dwarf.  Each of them is a qualified stonemason and blacksmith.

They either lived in large houses made of rocks or simply lived in caves.  Most people of this race have dedicated their lives to endless digging and forging.  And what they hate most is the forest.

    The elves¡¯ favorite forest.

Hopless has never heard of any dwarves approaching the forest on their own initiative. Unless they have no choice, they never deal with green things.

    "This is not good."

In the forest, Hopeless didn¡¯t want to deal with the dwarves at all.  Their stubborn temper and bad mood are enough to make everything worse.

At this moment, the footsteps stopped.

The hunter squinted his eyes and saw that the owner of those footsteps had arrived in front of his tent.

They stood on the path some distance away from the tent, watching in silence.

    "There are seven"

??Little Red Riding Hood whispered, clenching the shotgun in her hand.

She was a little nervous and a little scared, but that was natural.  Let alone her, even someone as bold as Hopeless was a little cautious in the face of the current situation.

"Friends over there, we don't mean any harm."

In the silence, the dwarves spoke first.

The dwarf, who stood at the front of everyone and had the longest beard, introduced himself in his rock-deep voice.

"I am Doc, prince of the dwarves of the North Mountains. If you have heard of me, you will know that I can be trusted."

"I'm sorry my friends, I should have asked you to warm yourself up by the fire. But as you can see, this tent is too small and can no longer accommodate more people."

    But Hopley was unmoved.

¡°So what if what the dwarf said is true?  They are still just as dangerous and still have the same numerical advantage.

"Don't worry, we are just passing by."

However, the other party seems to have the same concerns.

These dwarves, who were soaked in rain and looked miserable, stood warily in the distance.  He has no intention of getting closer at all.

"I'm sorry to bother you, we're leaving now."

    This couldn¡¯t be better.

Hopeles did not continue to speak. He watched his lovers leave in silence.  Watch these people disappear at the other end of the trail.  It wasn't until the last person's figure disappeared into the darkness that he relaxed his vigilance and removed his finger from the trigger.

    "It's a false alarm, teacher."

Little Red Riding Hood's tone became cheerful.  With a smile, she released the hammer spring and started working on the chicken again.

Hopless glanced at her, smiled, reached out and rubbed her blond hair.

    "Um."

"Teacher, you were so handsome just now!"

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

"Really, you were so serious and reliable just now!"

"I don't understand what you are thinking."

Neither of them mentioned the dwarf thing again, as if nothing had happened.

But they all had a vague hunch: this matter is far from over.
