"Little Miss Sunshine", ¡ï¡ï¡ï¡ï (out of four stars), Roger Ebert
? 11-10, 2005
A little girl stared at us with her blue eyes, as if she could see into our souls. But she wasn't looking at us, she was staring at a beauty pageant on television, studying and rehearsing the moment when the winner was crowned. In just the first few seconds of Little Miss Sunshine , we know that this is a movie about dreams, and misconceptions.
A few days later, she and her family began an eventful journey from Albuquerque to Redondo Beach in an old Volkswagen bus. The girl's dream was finally coming true, they were approaching the hotel where the race was being held and they could see it from the highway and it looked within reach. But they couldn't find the intersection that would actually get them there.
The movie says a lot about that moment, not just about misconceptions. In the ever-changing landscape of Southern California, you always seem to be changing some of your intended course, but never quite arriving. And about the elusive nature of the American dream we chase, the shortcuts we follow, and the high roads we don¡¯t take.
This is a gentle family satire and a classic American road movie. "Little Miss Sunshine" can be traced back to the anti-authority, counterculture comedies from the 1970s, such as "Smiley" (1975) or "Harold and Maude" (1971), which satirized the fairy tale preaching of Protestants. virtue, due to superficial traditional American values.
"Little Miss Sunshine" shows us a world of forms, dogmas, procedures, positions, diets, step-by-step plans, life plans, rewards, retirement groups, quantification, selection, categorization and dealing with the emotions and desires of every ordinary person.
Inseparable, either survive with nothing or accept a self-improvement mantra: "winners and losers."
The movie opens by introducing us to the Hoover family, with Olive (Abigail Breslin) pursuing the goal of becoming a beauty queen. Her father, Richard (Tom Hanks), is a staggering success motivational speaker who is pathologically obsessed with success because he has never tried it himself. Oliver's mother, Cheryl (Julia Roberts), whose values ??are family above all else, is distraught trying to hold a family together that is constantly in conflict.
Grandpa (Alan Arkin), Olive's coach, spends time teaching her a dance routine to prepare for competitions. Grandpa was kicked out of a retirement home for taking heroin. His philosophy is that you are a fool if you take drugs when you are young, and you will be a fool if you don't take drugs when you are old.
Uncle Frank (Tim Roth), Cheryl¡¯s brother, is the best Proust scholar in the world. He had just attempted suicide because he had fallen in love with a graduate student who had just dumped him for the second best Proust scholar in the world. Oliver's brother (Paul Dano) didn't speak for nine months. He wasn't depressed, not at all. He was just obsessed with Nietzsche and took a vow of silence until he was admitted to flight school. Plus, he hates everyone.
In our initial introduction, Little Miss Sunshine does something truly remarkable: it gives us the only choice, from 25 minutes of a scene centered around a family dinner featuring takeout fried chicken, to Learned everything about the Hoover family. It's a bold move that establishes the film's characters and comic tone.
And then¡a road trip!
You don¡¯t need to see a better show and a better cast, and you¡¯re not likely to. The cast of "Little Miss Sunshine" (from starring roles to guest stars) and director Ye Wei, they have thoroughly mastered what to do when disagreements are discussed or witty remarks are made. The unspoken reaction can be interesting, and in the most disturbing way. In a satisfying comedy, what should be the level of pain?
All the actors acted so realistically. Dano, with his deathly dark eyes hidden behind thick bangs, is also set with a pale face that seems to be a breakdown of teenage alienation and disgust. All he had to do was tilt his head naturally and he could almost win over the whole house. Hanks, a great actor, has given us another great performance, and every shot of him is amazing.
Roberts, she also brought her character to life. Roth is a wonder in "pink and blue striped socks" who creates a gay man who is both archetypal and surprising, his pain like a solid piece of plastic foam surrounding him, less painful and more comical.
How does Uncle Frank work? He is an intellectual run. Roth and director Ye Wei certainly researched this, breaking it down into its component parts, and then reassembling it. All straightforward and no elegance. It almost doesn't look like a real person, but it's not an act of heightened stupidity, it's just an expression of a real character.
Arkin, Breslin, Streep, all the actors have joined forcesFantasy, Ye Wei's cameo also adds a lot to the film.
Ye Wei's directorial performance is great. I don't want to say more about his 17-year-old age. Even if he is older than me, it is still a great performance: the successful creation of the first 25 minutes is a spectacle; the road trip makes people extremely time-conscious. It's painful to laugh; when it comes to the beauty pageant at the top of the film, it hits our hearts hard; and then to the heart-warming end, after irony, the reality is faced with truth and grace, and there is an imperceptible sadness.
We can see that Ye Wei¡¯s talent permeates the whole story, which is humorous, sad, and exciting. He doesn¡¯t even have to shout, he just does it gently.
In a movie where everything is moving, Little Miss Sunshine is a priceless gift of priceless fun and thoughtfulness.
The first film review Albert wrote for LMS was very long. A film critic would only write such a long film review when he was emotionally excited, whether it was because he wanted to praise or criticize, and had a lot to say. Finally, his definition of LMS is a gift!
This is definitely one of the film reviews he most hesitates to give four stars. His love for the Hoovers is revealed between the lines, and it is obvious that he likes DeWine and Frank the most, one Nietzsche, one Proust, and a little There are two scholars in his senior year, and perhaps they are the two characters that make him feel most immersed in them.
Especially Frank, the old man even went to analyze how an intellectual like Frank acted. It was so funny, ironic, and so real.
He also praised Ye Wei very much. In his writing, Ye Wei was a knight who wanted to fight the evil dragon to save the princess. Everyone thought there was a life and death battle, but who knew that the evil dragon ran away as soon as he heard that he was coming? . The powerful knight just has to carry the princess gracefully.
So when the media reports, they all say "Roger Ebert praised LMS for being unparalleled" and "Roger Ebert praised Ye Wei for being great." When Owen Grabman suddenly attacked LMS recently, people quickly saw that Albert really, really loves LMS!
Albert has published his second movie review! Very long too!
This rare move of the old man was reported by the media and read by fans, and everyone gave a thumbs up!
"Compared to Irving Graeberman's lame film review, Ebert's two film reviews fully demonstrate what it means to be a master and why he can get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Because it¡¯s so well written!
The characters have no vitality? Doomed sitcom? Ye Wei made a defective film? Don't you even bother to mention a "director"? Predictable?
He said, no!
"Little Miss Sunshine" Part 2, ¡ï¡ï¡ï¡ï, Roger Ebert
? 11-22, 2005
"Little Miss Sunshine" has a group of characters who look so weird that there is even a view that they are unreal.
Their driving forces are their own values, dreams and changes. Each character has a lovely side and a bad side. They are all a combination of contradictions. Because of this, these people are so believable and full of weird but vivid vitality.
There is no need to say more about the fantastic performance of the actors, let me just add it. Alan Arkin's grandfather is not only a good person, but also seems to be an old friend of mine. I must know such a guy. Abigail Breslin, who is only 9 years old, uses her pure innocence and incredible performance to give us Olive, a little girl who can penetrate the soul.
When we watch a movie, it is usually easiest to see the wonderful performances of the actors or the exquisite story writing. But it is not easy to understand and find what the director has done. It can be said that the director has done everything.
"Little Miss Sunshine" is a multi-lane road. You can drive in a simple movie lane without thinking about anything, enjoy this quite interesting story and gain something; you can also think about a lot, talk about a lot, You can even look at it frame by frame, like an anatomy.
But this movie will not let you feel the traces of directing. It is not heavy, just elegant and gentle; the settings of some elements, scene props, etc. are also very civilian. Maybe that's the reason, it seems we don't have to talk about Ye Wei, he didn't do anything.
Ye Wei is not a director who doesn't understand form and show off his skills. "Wedding Day is Coming" has strong traces of directing like magic. "Exorcist Video" has already appeared to be with ease, and "Little Miss Sunshine" is a natural creation. He maintained his own style, but did not show off, only used it appropriately.
??If we tell a story, this is actually a tightrope story. The beginning is entirely created by a dinner scene, and you will fall off at any time. As a result, we walked over without knowing it and reached the starting point of the road trip. In the journey of unexpected events, Ye Wei's understanding and control of the story made everything just right.
Its rhythm is smooth and natural. Although it keeps changing, there is no sense of break. Under the always-moving structure, it gradually deepens its appeal and forms the largest shock wave. During the beauty pageant, Oliver started dancing. But the bigger surprise is that later, when you think that's it, that's all the movie is, it turns around and goes in another direction, a natural direction that you couldn't foresee before.
The final shot of the film is extraordinary. At the beginning, the film only gives us one choice, to know everything about the Hoover family and become a member of this family. At the end, the camera zooms out, taking us away from the Hoover home, allowing us to become spectators again and face ourselves, looking for our answers.
The red sky is a world full of danger and change. The busy road is our life. We come and go on the road without knowing what to do. The Hoover's house on the roadside is a kind of attitude towards life that we can have, sometimes stopping to enjoy the peace in the private world. You can notice that the bus is missing, but the keys to the car are clearly on the dining table. They still have dreams and will start again, but they have somewhat deeper values.
These are one of the things a director does. If you want to write a film review like this, "Little Miss Sunshine" can be written as an explanation and analysis book as thick as a dictionary. It is better to leave this job to those teachers in the film school, because I am sure this is not you want. However, if some people say that this movie is nothing but superb performances, I cannot agree with it.
Ye Wei's talent is magical. There are a lot of witty moments in the film that make you think, "How could this happen?" Everyone says he is a genius. He is a genius not only because he knows how to make movies. For a teenager who is only 17 years old, He said that his knowledge and thoughts in all aspects are the most amazing thing.
All we can do is to be shocked by him again and again. If I were a girl, I would probably be crazy about Ye Wei, but now I love him.
This review is my impression after watching "Little Miss Sunshine" in the theater for the second time. In fact, I had more fun. I plan to watch it again when it is about to be released.
Director Ye Wei, well done!
The old man's second film review can be said to be a very disgusting praise of Ye Wei, but every sentence is reasonable. He also showed a small hand in film analysis, which seems to be a demonstration to Graeberman and others. Can you see it in a sitcom? What have you watched?
How blind are you so that you can¡¯t see Ye Wei¡¯s talent?
Irving Graeberman is really short-sighted. When he published that movie review, he may have done it just for the sake of sensationalism. After all, he works for "Entertainment Weekly" and entertaining the public is his first priority; maybe he never thought that he would be so criticized. Beat!
"Wait a minute, wait a minute, listen to me"
It¡¯s almost Thanksgiving, don¡¯t worry about it, okay? How about we talk about "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", which has an 88% freshness rating and a 74% love rating. You said yes and I said yes too; how about "Walking with Songs"? 82% freshness and 90% love, I give it a B+! Talk about them!
Why are you still staring at LMS? Didn¡¯t I just wait for it to be released for a week before publishing a movie review? Why are you still paying attention to me Stop it! It¡¯s okay to split up a few people to fight Jim Ridley and Roger Moore! Stop it!
First, Stephen King used a chokehold, and Albert punched him in the face. Then because of this incident, more film critics wrote film reviews for LMS, and the number of film reviews included in Rotten Tomatoes quickly soared from 201 to 5 There are some bad reviews, but most of them are thumbs up to Graeberman.
The freshness is stable at 97% (229 fresh articles, 6 bad articles, 8.7/10 points). This is unlikely to change for many years. The inclusion of 6 articles is already a very high number for a literary film. "Sideways", which has been released for a year and a half, has 207 articles so far (96%, 200 fresh articles, 7 bad articles, 8.5/10 points).
This also means that this time, Ye Wei and "Little Miss Sunshine" have finally conquered the film critics!
Not just in North America, but all over the world!
"Ye Wei uninhibitedly directed the conflicts, fears, failures and hopes of a family, with great actors and soundtrack." 4. 5/5, Uruguayan emerging director Enrique Buccicchio, "Uruguay General"
"This is a cute, funny road movie about a troubled family, but you know you've been down the same road before. Prodigy Ye Wei is once again crazy." 4/4, Paul Burns, Australia Sydney Morning Herald
"It's not surprising that Ye Wei, who has always been mature but rebellious, filmed "Little Miss Sunshine". If you understand his family background and growth process, you can know where his rebellion comes from. When he was still a student17 At the age of 10, he made history with "Little Miss Sunshine". We can embrace happiness with peace of mind." 10/10, Liang Liang, "United Daily News" of Taiwan, China.
"If you are looking for the best news of 2005?Comedy, or a movie prodigy, I think is right here. "5/5, David Edwards, British "Daily Mirror"
"It's like a refreshing breeze that fascinates people all year round. There is no spectacular scene, but there is almost everything perfect." 3.5/4, Vincent Marocha, French urbuz website

In addition to film critics, tens of millions of fans continue to contribute to imdb-8.5 points and 95% love. Many people even went to Owen Graeberman's column message board to refute something. Really Let him be as red as Albert for a while. Don¡¯t worry, it¡¯s just a discussion!
