    DreamWorks fell, another somersault!

This week¡¯s North American film market is exciting not only on the big screen, but also on the various aspects of the film industry.

It's not surprising that "Star Wars Episode III" has taken the world by storm. What's surprising is that it can win the championship for three weeks, because in the media's predictions, this week belongs to "Madagascar". In Wall Street's expectations,  This week also belongs to Madagascar.

Jeffrey Katzenberg's words "We are confident that it will be better than "Shark Tale"" still ring in my ears. It is better than "Shark Tale" ($56.01 million in the first week). Should it be close to "Monster"?  "Shrek 2" earned $14.3 billion in its first week ($20.94 million was collected in two days in the previous week)?  It¡¯s a new work, so with a discount, $8000-$90 million isn¡¯t too much, right?

Compared with the dream that Katzenberg weaved during the IPO last November and the shareholders¡¯ meeting last month, it is not exaggerated at all!

The $8,000-$90 million in the first week is exactly what investors expected.  But now, there are 468 more theaters than can win the championship, and a single theater cannot even compete with "The Longest Yard"

According to this first-week box office, 55% Rotten Tomatoes freshness and 67% audience love, "Madagascar" simply cannot have the expected profits. In other words, DreamWorks cannot rely on it to turn around, and the expected profit gap for the whole year will be  Not only did it not shrink, but it got bigger and bigger, which was disappointing!

So as far as the movie market is concerned, the first week box office of "Madagascar" was very good, but in terms of the current situation of DreamWorks, it failed.

"Its box office performance is within our expectations, and we are confident that its global DVD sales will reach 40 million sets." DreamWorks CEO, Katzenberg, once again tried to weave dreams to investors: "Its sequel  The project has been approved and we will do our best to make it a successful brand like the "Shrek" series."

Anyone with a discerning eye knows what kind of tricks DreamWorks is playing. This time it was disappointing, so they said, "Wait a minute, it won't happen next time." Then the next time it was still disappointing, they said, "Trust me again, it won't happen."  "I want investors to continue living in the dream bubble and give DreamWorks enough time to change the real situation.

What is the real situation?  DreamWorks didn't even dare to announce its final production cost, 100 million?  Seventy million?  Fifty million?  What does $72.67 million in the first week mean?

This may be able to deceive ordinary investors, but Wall Street is not included. There are no idiots there. They are stupid enough after being fooled once or twice. There are also no good people there. They will be very angry once they are disappointed. DreamWorks has been very angry this year.  Since it didn¡¯t make people happy, naturally no one wanted to believe Katzenberg¡¯s lies anymore.

In the words of the executives and consultants of many securities investment companies: Completely lost confidence!

    The stock price is down!

Throughout mid-to-late May, DreamWorks' stock price has been ups and downs. Following another failure, it has now fallen to only $28 per share, which was its issue price last year.  No one expected that this arrogant independent film company would fall from the clouds and fall into deep quagmire in just six months.

All this stems from the fact that it failed to meet shareholders' expectations and that its full-year profit expectations have become increasingly hopeless.

The Wall Street Journal and other media have said things like "DreamWorks has taught Wall Street a lesson", "DreamWorks' dream is shattered", "It's hard to make money in Hollywood", etc. This is the real situation. Wall Street wants money and wants money.  Money, money is needed, but DreamWorks can't get it If it continues, DreamWorks seems to have no other option but to sell itself to provide money.

p>The trouble for DreamWorks is not just that. "Madagascar" will never have a North American weekly box office title, because the following week is "Exorcism" week, and there are three other new movies.  Large-scale releases: "The Man with the Iron Fist", "Summer of Jeans", "Lords of Dogtown".

Does it want to win the weekly championship in such a week?  It's like a Tom Cruise movie: Mission Impossible.

No one knows what is going on nowHow complicated the emotions of DreamWorks executives such as J¨¹lberg, Katzenberg, Jeff Smy, and Terry Price are, but they must be very, very complicated.  They made a mistake as big as Jennifer Lopez's butt, as with another Cruise movie: Rain Man.

They thought he was a fool, but he turned out to be a genius.

With only the maximum screening scale of 51 theaters, it took away a total of $8.12 million in North American box office!

"The Exorcist Video" has entered the 10 million box office club and is unstoppable!

It looks like a fraction of the top three, so what¡¯s there to be excited about? If you look at how low its production and distribution costs are, you¡¯ll know that every movie ticket it sells is gold!  I just know how much confidence it would give investors if this good thing happened to DreamWorks

Katzenberg will transform from the ugly liar in Jim Carrey's "The Big Brother" to the handsome race car who comes back after failure to win the championship and win the beauty in Cruise's "Thunder".  hand.

However, the miracle of TET has not really happened yet. There is still a possibility that it will fail miserably in the "Exorcism War" and become another example of large-scale distribution failure. It may even cause Lionsgate to lose money on its current profits  ¡possible?

This movie war, which the media and fans are eagerly anticipating, has started everywhere except the box office rankings, and some clues have emerged.

The bad news for TET is that the rating has become R-rated, the average weekly box office per theater has dropped from over 100,000, and the momentum has eased.

But "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" (TEOER) is also in big trouble. It held a critic screening a few days ago and invited a number of well-known and unknown film critics to attend. The response did not seem to be very good.  In the days leading up to the release, because we have to cooperate with the publicity, the release time is coming, and we have to see people whether we live or die, film reviews have come into the public eye one after another

Only 45% Rotten Tomatoes freshness, 5.5/10 points!  The film critics didn't give it much good looks, not because it has anything to do with the exorcism debate, but because of the film itself. It has the structure of an exorcism and a courtroom drama. That's not to say it's bad, but the way it was shot made many film critics  I don¡¯t think it¡¯s good:

"What starts off as creepy becomes a dull symposium. The actors ramble on for so long about religious beliefs, but one longs to see one of them vomit a little bit of pea soup at the jurors ("The Exorcist"  "The green liquid that Regan vomited" - 2/4, Chuck Wilson, "LA Weekly"

"Emily Rose fails to bring any unique style to the courtroom or gruesome scenes. The writers and directors just add a wrinkle to the legend." - 2/4, Michael Phillips, "Chicago Tribune"

"This movie is more courtroom drama than horror movie, shot like a TV sequel: "Law & Order: SSU." - 2/5, Bill Miller, "The Arizona Republic"

In terms of exorcism, horror, and thriller, film critics are not satisfied!  They miss "The Exorcist" and "The Exorcist Video."

Frank Scheck of "The Hollywood Reporter" commented with a score of 2/4: "This film, which mixes horror, courtroom drama and real-life drama, fails to achieve the unity of atmosphere and continuity of emotion. It is fragmented and  It's not like "The Exorcism Video", it becomes more frightening every time, until the heart collapses."

Of course, 45% of the film critics gave positive reviews, including Roger Ebert, an old Catholic man who had a special attitude towards exorcism films. Either he would not review the film, but he would definitely give it a good review if he did. He gave TEOER three stars: "  Interesting and confusing movie¡

??????????????????????????????????? It doesn¡¯t take off in the end to the heights it gave us when it opened, maybe it can¡¯t, maybe it¡¯s too devoted to discussing the issues it raises.

A movie like The Exorcist would be a better movie, establishing demons and exorcisms, all the scary scenes, and that would be good entertainment.  A film that keeps an open mind will inevitably lack a slam-dunk ending.  Emily Rose's story is ultimately open to multiple interpretations. You didn't ask me, but I think she was mentally ill.  I think of "The Exorcism Video" again. It is a shocking exception. It has the entertainment of Movie and the thinking of Film. I really don't know why.  "

The old man¡¯s preference for exorcism films is obvious, as is his love for TET. Comparing the two film reviews, he likes TEOER, but loves TET.

For another movie in the exorcism battle, "The Exorcist Story" (DPTTE), he also gave three stars, praising and writing: "This movie is full of frightening atmosphere, making us think about Paul -  "What Schrader expected, but it also had a spiritual weight and texture, boldly dealing with the possibility of Satan being active in the world."

Paul Schrader obviously did not live up to the expectations of film critics. Ebert is the best actor in exorcism movies.Like it, but not many other film critics who attended the DPTTE screening had good things to say, 30% freshness rating!  4. 7/10 points.  It¡¯s already stinking even before it¡¯s released.

"A version that bears some resemblance to the Renny Harlin version¡ªthat is, they share the same problems, weak supporting characters, unintentionally funny lines, and subpar special effects." - 2/5, Kevin -  Custer, Los Angeles Times

"Harlin's version at least has cheap thrills, Schrader's version has none." - 2/4, Kyle Smith, "New York Post"

"Schrader's version is boring, and just arranging suspense doesn't make a horror movie more attractive." - 1.5/4, Michael Reichhofen, "The Hollywood Reporter"

Now in terms of freshness, TEOER is 45%, DPTTE is 30%, and TET is 91%!  Still dazzlingly red.

The two films combined are not as good as the other one. The North American film critics can be said to be firmly in one camp. The winner of this battle of reviews and word-of-mouth has already been decided!

    "Exorcist Video", a complete victory!

When Rotten Tomatoes puts the three films together into a special feature, when relevant media outlets are reporting on them, and when movie fans are excitedly promoting the results On the eve of this war, Warner Bros., who only wants to fish in troubled waters, may have nothing to do with it.  The so-called; Sony, which has invested so much, is there any trembling?

Don¡¯t be afraid!  Only the box office is the real thing. Young audiences and random viewers don¡¯t let movie critics decide their movie viewing choices. They don¡¯t even care too much about the box office, it¡¯s all about publicity!  TEOER, which has spent a huge amount of US dollars, will completely defeat TET in every aspect of publicity Don't be afraid

The problem is, even if TEOER, which lacks entertainment, has a rating advantage, how much love will it gain from young audiences?  And "Emily Rose" Jennifer Carpenter is not as popular with teenagers as "Maggie" Nina Dobrev

Actually, there is one aspect of publicity that is hard to say, the Internet.  Although TEOER has placed advertisements on many mainstream entertainment websites, TET is obviously much higher than it in terms of popularity. This is true on movie forums and on video websites!

TET's trailers and viral marketing short films such as "Devil Girl" are not comparable to TEOER in terms of clicks. In addition, its viral mini-games and viral websites, such as "Pastor Cotton-Marcus' Exorcism Diary"  "The fake record blog is even more popular than TEOER's official website by a large margin.

So this battle now involves another level, the competition of publicity!

Will this be a classic in which new media defeats traditional media, or a classic in which traditional media overwhelms new media?

The result is bound to have a far-reaching impact. If the former wins, it will immediately affect the entire film distribution and marketing system, affect the textbooks in the academy, and affect the main way audiences choose movies in the future; if the latter wins, it means that new media must  It¡¯s not the time to take over.

    Internet VS Tradition

Video website VS TV advertising, cinema advertising

Viral short film VS official trailer

Emerging social networking sites VS newspapers and magazines

    Communication VS receiving

    Independent Film VS Hollywood

Independent film companies VS mainstream giants

    ¡¡

This is a battle for exorcism. This is not just a battle for exorcism. In the new era of the 21st century, the emergence of the Internet has changed the entire world. What about the film industry?  Can Lionsgate, an independent company without the backing of a media group, rely on the power of the Internet to compete with mainstream Hollywood giants?

Can mockumentary - a remake of an old film be officially announced as a new film genre?

¡°Can ¡°Exorcism Video¡± create a commercial miracle that truly shocks the world?

?????????? Can Yunik Culler prove his reputation as a genius?

"The Exorcism of Emily Rose": 3,072 theaters, production fee 19.3 million, 45% freshness, distributor Sony

"The Exorcism Video": 2,110 theaters, production fee of 450,000, 91% freshness, distributor Lions

"The Exorcist": 550 theaters, production fee of 30 million, 30% freshness, distributor WB

When June 3, 2005 came, a large number of audiences poured into the theater for the midnight show, and the night sky of the North American continent was filled with the sound of exorcism!

    The battle for exorcism begins!
