    "Action."

As a road movie, it is of course impossible to lack driving scenes on the highway. After the LMS crew finished shooting the outdoor scenes with the grandfather in these days, they began to focus on shooting the driving scenes.  And those interior scenes such as motels and hospitals have been filmed before. Grandpa can be said to be dead, but now he is back to film road scenes? Filmmaking is so wonderful.

Six people are sitting in the bus talking. The bus is moving forward. There are camera seats at the front of the car, camera seats on the side of the car body, camera seats at the rear of the car, and camera seats inside the car

How to shoot these, maybe the actors are sitting in a fake car in front of a blue screen and a green screen, acting like they are really driving, and then the driving scenery is synthesized through post-production special effects.  This is a magic weapon for sitcoms and ultra-low-budget movies that even sophisticated TV series don¡¯t need, let alone movies with incredible casts.

For LMS, trailers and racks are the key to success.  In the photos of the studio work taken by Fernando on the crew¡¯s camera truck, this is what it looks like now:

On a deserted road, a yellow-and-white Volkswagen bus was towed by a small trailer. There was a lot of photography equipment set up on the rear platform of the trailer. The microphone pole was hung high, and the gun was wrapped like a caterpillar.  The microphone moved closer to the bus with its windshield removed, and Maurer and others stood there wearing seat belts and operating the camera.

There is also a small camera stand installed on the left side of the bus. It is called the "Hostess-Tray" on the set. It fixes another camera on the side of the bus and can be repeatedly assembled and disassembled and applied to the body.  Any location.  The camera crew will soon move it to a position such as the right side of the bus to capture more useful footage.

The protagonists were sitting in the car, and Hanks, who was responsible for driving, put his hands on the steering wheel and acted driving.

Director Ye Wei will not be photographed, because he is sitting on the camera truck following next to him, wearing a communication headset, watching the actors' performances on the monitor, and issuing instructions at any time.  The cast on his left forearm has been removed and the recovery is in good condition, but it still takes time to recover from the previous state where he could burst a sandbag.

Beside him, art director Donald Burt, stage manager Lynne and several others were also watching and doing their work.

This is part of the driving shots of LMS. Many of them are actually driving, with the camera car nearby or in the distance.

"CUT, this one is okay, but Alan, I want your expression to be a little bigger."

Even though a thorough rehearsal has been carried out before, there will still be NG situations.  Ye Wei said into the microphone head of the earphone, and the voice was transmitted through the radio to the earphones of Maurer and others on the opposite side and into the bus. On the monitor, he saw the expressions of the protagonists relaxed, and Alan Arkin shot  An OK gesture.

Soon, as Maurer shouted "Action" from nearby, a new shot started shooting again.

In fact, Ah Jin has very few NGs. The old guy is very good at acting, and the role of "Grandpa" is not difficult for him. His performance alone is very good. It is more like he has been acting for so many years and finally ushered in his role.  A role that suits him best.

Even if he is NG, it will not be difficult to solve. Ye Wei usually simply talks about his requirements, and Ah Jin will understand what he wants and adjust the next item appropriately.

But it¡¯s not without disagreements. The night before Grandpa died, in the scene between Grandpa and Oliver in Room 13 of the motel, Ye Wei and Ah Jin almost had a quarrel.

In that scene, after Grandpa and Olive practiced the dance competition, it was time for Olive to go to bed. Grandpa had put her down and was about to leave. Oliver called him back four times, revealing his anxiety about losing the beauty pageant tomorrow and becoming a loser. He cried.  When she got up, Grandpa kept encouraging her. Finally, Olive fell asleep peacefully and Grandpa left.

The next day, grandpa never woke up.

Ye Wei believes that this is a farewell scene. Every time the grandpa turns around and goes back, there must be obvious emotional changes that the audience can intuitively feel. It increases time and time again, and there must also be some coaxing actions to portray the warmth and sincerity of the vulgar and unruly grandpa.  On the one hand, he loves his granddaughter so much.

And Akin thinks this is a normal scene, because in Grandpa's opinion, he will wake up as usual tomorrow and see Oliver participating in the beauty pageant. There is no sense of separation. He is still the carefree old hippie. He turned around four times and went back, but he didn't  I'm impatient, but I don't have a lot of feelings. Emotionally, I'm a whole, and I'm usually warm.

In fact, this difference stems from the difference in perception, the director¡¯s perspective and the actor¡¯s perspective.

Ye Wei agrees with Ah Jin. Normally, Grandpa doesn¡¯t have any particular feelings.  He doesn't mean to have an emotional outburst, but that doesn't mean there can't be changes in emotional levels.

¡°Trust me for once, young man, I¡¯ve been a grandpa for many years.¡±

¡°I know, Alan, but I really think it¡¯s better to have some layers.¡±

This happens on every set, even actors who are acting for the first time will have their own understanding of the role.  It's not that Ye Wei didn't know that for a veteran actor like director Ah Jin, more trust would probably lead to more surprises, but this scene was too important and he couldn't give up his opinion.

"Sometimes we just need to let the story happen and leave it to the audience to feel." At that time, the two had walked aside. A Jin's words were somewhat instructive. New directors often have to express themselves too much, controlling the characters and the audience.  Their emotional direction, this is not bad, but he hopes to gain control of his grandfather.

"This is Grandpa's point of view. He is an old bastard in the front, and he is an old bastard in the back. We have to make him cute. Alan, you know, cute! That's why I want layers. An old bastard becomes a cute old bastard.  , I won¡¯t suggest you the details of the performance, but I want the layers!¡±

Ye Wei continued to urge, although the director is a king, there are times when he can¡¯t move.  "How about we shoot two versions and then compare and choose when editing?"

"Young man, don't do this to an old guy like me." Ah Jinhe's old face smiled. How could he not know that as long as he acted in the director's version, the actor's version would become garbage on the editing room floor.  "This scene is not that complicated. This family usually has many problems. This is not the first time that grandpa comforts Oliver. He is not very serious."

"He's not very serious, but he's very affectionate. Look at Alan, 'He combed Oliver's hair well'"

"Don't come. We all know that the script can be changed at any time. Aren't all the lines I said today written in the script?"

"You know? It's not the first time that grandpa has comforted Olive, but Olive usually doesn't cry easily. Here she is crying! So grandpa's reaction is different."

"Children always cry at every turn."

"Oliver is not, because she grew up under the strict requirements of Richard. Richard would say, 'Only losers cry,' and she no longer likes to cry. She is actually a loser here, and it is also the last time that her grandfather, a mentor,  A mission, 'The real losers are those who never try', then the mentor dies and the hero must be on his own."

"Young man, you are really an academic."

    ¡°Yes, I am an academic, that¡¯s how I understand it.¡±

"Oliver may not cry easily, I don't know, but young man, I know her emotions are very simple. If you want to talk about the script, just look at this, 'He scratched her armpit, and she couldn't help but laugh.'  The kid didn't think much about it, and neither did grandpa. It was just an ordinary conversation. "

¡°Oliver¡¯s simplicity is not the same as grandpa¡¯s simplicity. Oliver is a childlike simplicity that has not been tarnished by society. Grandpa¡¯s simplicity is different because he has experienced too much and has seen through the world.¡±

The old man and the young man became more and more excited as they talked, and their arguments could be heard throughout the motel set. From one scene to the entire story, from one character to a group of characters.  Couldn't you just call and ask screenwriter Michael Arndt?  Don't be ridiculous, no one cares about what the screenwriter thinks, he was responsible for the creation long ago.

There will only be one winner in this conflict of differences, and it¡¯s time for others to do something, but they must have authority. Artistic director Donald Burt has it, and he prefers Akin because it fits Grandpa¡¯s overall style; Assistant Director Jennifer Anderson has  , she also leaned towards Ah Jin and persuaded Ye Wei: "Director, Allen knows what he is playing, so just leave it to him?"

Ah Jin is too virtuous and respectable. Although everyone agrees that VIY is a child prodigy, they are still more willing to believe in the old man when there are serious differences.

Hanks and Roberts, who also came to mediate, both laughed and advised Ye Wei to "calm down". In fact, they were saying to stop arguing. Ah Jin has enough qualifications to be disobedient. This is an actor's right.

Ye Wei really sulked over this. Ah Jin could indeed be disobedient, and it wouldn't necessarily be bad to leave it to him, but

However, at this moment, Ah Jin, who was supported by almost everyone, smiled and sighed, "You are the director, and you have the final say on your movie. Just follow the plan you said." Everyone was a little surprised, but it was just a little bit, Ah Jin  Jin is not a person who relies on his old age to sell his old age.  The old man added: "You'd better not make me look like a fool in the future."

"It will just be a cute old bastard grandpa!" Ye Wei breathed a sigh of relief in surprise, it was great, it was great to get the effect he wanted!

He was very grateful in his heart. If Jin insisted on his opinion, there would be no harm, but the old man finally chose to give in, trust and help the young man; at the same time, there was a little more pressure, and no matter how confident he was, he could not guarantee that his plan would be more impressive in the end.  People's hearts, the answer will only be known when it is released.

Ah Jin performed very well in the subsequent filming, and the matter was resolved satisfactorily.

It has been a few days ago, and Emma came to make a guest appearance.Much more, it has undoubtedly enhanced Ye Wei's authority a lot. No one knows the answer, but at least it can be handed over to the director now.

And today, after filming all the driving scenes with grandpa, Alan Arkin¡¯s scene has been completed and he has to bid farewell to the crew.  When work ended in the evening, the crew held a simple farewell party for Ah Jin at the circus in the wilderness beside the road.

It gets dark very late in Toronto in the summer, and the sky is still bright at this time. In the food supply area of ??the circus with vehicles, line staff, supervisors and idlers gathered around the food table, each holding something to eat.  , laughing, and feeling reluctant to see Ah Jin. He is the kind of good actor who is always willing to have lunch with him.

"Alan, you are one of the best actors I have ever worked with. Your performance is incredible and you have taught me a lot. Thank you."

At this moment, Ye Wei did not deliberately maintain his directorial authority, and there was no need for it at this stage of filming. He raised the mineral water in his hand, looked around the crowd, and said with a sincere smile: "This old man, he is one of my mentors.  1. I believe his performance will rock the audience, that¡¯s what he does.¡±

??Everyone smiled and nodded, seeing VIY¡¯s humble and respectful side, some of them only had a greater favorable impression.

"I have to say, kid." A Jin also raised the mineral water, smiling with his signature cold face. It was the first time he called him kid in front of the crew. "Your performance as a director is incredible. Remember  Was it our disagreement before? A new director who doesn¡¯t want to express himself can only make a script, but you can¡¯t make a movie.¡±

"Thank you!" Ye Wei went and hugged Ah Jin. The old man's joining opened the door to dreams. The old man's support and the old man's teachings, thank you!

"Continue to work hard to make this movie well. This is what I and everyone expect from you." A Jin patted the young man on the shoulder and said, "Work hard."

"Not just this movie, I will always work hard to make good movies." Ye Wei said, suddenly feeling that Ah Jin's plan is actually really good. When you make up your mind, the most ordinary tone has already told you your greatest strength.  .

    ??????????????????????????????????¡

Arndt¡¯s arrival was just a visit. As a screenwriter, he was certainly not Doris Day, and he was even included in the ranks of miscellaneous people on the set.  However, the LMS crew was not that mean. He was still treated politely, mainly because King Ye Wei gave him a smile. Not only did he not give the screenwriter a bad look, but he also asked Arndt to follow him and introduce him to him when he had time.

Happy, curious, unbelievable, and a dream come true, these are Arndt¡¯s feelings. Just like many screenwriters, he was a rookie on the set at the beginning and basically didn¡¯t understand the equipment. Many times he wanted to express his opinion, but failed early.  Producer Peter Heller reminded me not to point fingers, just watch.

So after the excitement wore off, the biggest feeling he felt when staying on the set was boredom. Writing scripts and making movies were completely different things. He finally understood why many screenwriters stayed on the set for a day and said, "I will never come back again."  ¡±

So after having lunch on the LMS set twice, Arndt left.

Time gradually arrived in late May, and Meryl Streep arrived on the set.
