Wang Juan did not expect to meet a monk in a ruined temple in the wilderness, and he was so elegant, so he couldn't help but respectfully said: "Master, he is so charming. I was on my way at night and missed Sutou. I don't know if this master allowed me to disturb him." "
The monk responded: "The door of Buddhism is always open, and we are destined to travel across the country. We are just guests who come and go. Is there any difference in order?"
Wang Yan was startled for a moment and said: "Master's words are indeed full of Zen meaning, so we won't be pretentious anymore. Chan'er, come in!"
When Ji Chan heard Wang Juan's name, she didn't feel any strange at all. Instead, she showed a rare gentle look on her face. She dusted Wang Juan's clothes and looked like a virtuous little daughter-in-law.
Wang Juan and Ji Chan entered the dilapidated temple, but the temple was not big, and the four walls were leaky, so the resting areas were extremely limited. The old monk had already occupied that place. If the two of them squeezed in, it would be a bit overwhelming. .
The old monk saw Wang Juan¡¯s hesitation at a glance, and immediately said: "The two donors can just sit down wherever they like."
Wang Juan thanked him after hearing this, but did not refuse. After all, for the two of them, adequate rest is the most important, and other details are out of the question now.
Ji Chan and Wang Juan sat down by the fire, and the old monk took the initiative to chat.
"Brother? Don't you know Gao's name?"
Wang‡å was stunned for a moment, then he muttered: "Ask me? The next generation is Wang‡å and Wang Mingguang."
¡°For some reason, there seemed to be a convincing magic power in the old monk¡¯s voice, so Wang Juan had no intention of hiding his real name.
The monk nodded and said: "Okay! Okay! A name is as good as a person."
This was the first time someone complimented his name. Wang Juan was a little surprised. Then he touched his belly, with a look of embarrassment on his face.
The old monk asked curiously: "Why does my little brother have a strange look on his face?"
Wang Yan said honestly: "We originally had dried meat in our luggage, and I originally planned to barbecue it to satisfy our hunger, but how can we do this in front of the master?"
The monk smiled and said: "The wine and meat pass through the intestines, and the Buddha is in my heart. How can I not let the monk get a share of such delicious food?"
Wang Yan didn¡¯t expect this eminent monk to say such words, and he forgot how to react for a moment. Ji Chan on the side suddenly said: "Buddhism treats all living beings kindly. Although wine and meat may not affect the Buddha's mind, it always comes from killing. What does Master have to say?"
Wang‡å said secretly. Why is this royal goddess so aggressive? You must know that this monk looks like a stranger.
The monk didn¡¯t think anything of it at all. He said calmly and calmly: "Within life, there must be death. Since there is reincarnation, death is soil and life is death. For example, the wild dog meat that I ate seems to have caused murder, but from another perspective, it has helped countless mountains. The chicken is spared the tusks of this beast.¡±
Wang Xuan has heard of the monk's fallacy. But since he said so, he didn't have to be embarrassed and took out the dried meat to grill.
The monk chuckled and said, "Do you not believe what I said? If you don't, I will tell you another story."
It¡¯s late at night and everyone is quiet. I happened to be bored, and the old monk wanted to tell a story, and Wang Juan was naturally happy to do so.
"I heard him say in a hoarse voice: "Once, the Buddha went to a small mountain village to beg for alms, and a woman sincerely offered him a bowl of rice.
The Buddha said: "If you sow ten, you will be born ten; if you sow ten, you will be hundreds; if you sow hundreds, you will be thousands; if you sow thousands, you will be tens of thousands." If you keep doing this for a long time, you will surely achieve the right results. ¡¯
When the Buddha was about to leave, the woman¡¯s husband chased him out and asked with a smile: ¡®How can you say that? How can you get so much blessing by just giving a bowl of rice? ¡¯
"Don't laugh," the Buddha said, "Look at the Nikuta tree, which stretches for four or five miles and drops tens of thousands of dendrobium fruits every year. Isn't that the harvest of one kernel?" ¡¯
The Buddha used this simple metaphor to teach him, and the couple was happy to understand, so they strengthened their intention to be good.
But in this mountain village, there weren¡¯t many good things to do, so the woman thought of a way.
It turned out that there was a big mountain near where they lived. Venomous snakes often appeared in the mountain, endangering the villagers living here. The woman called her husband and often went up the mountain to catch snakes to avoid harming the villagers.
The man was so sincere that he finally killed 1,999 snakes in three years. He killed all the venomous snakes in the mountain. There were no more villagers nearby who were bitten by venomous snakes and died. They were all very happy. Thank you man for your good deeds.
The couple also felt that by doing this great good deed, they were one step closer to the true fruition mentioned by the Buddha. Giving someone a bowl of rice can sow great good deeds, not to mention saving people's lives.
Three years later, there was a rat plague near this mountain. There was no harvest for hundreds of miles. In the end, there was no harvest. In the end, the villagers died one after another due to famine, and the couple was not spared and starved to death.
After arriving at the underworld, the couple was very dissatisfied and asked the King of Hell: "We are both dedicated to good deeds. We not only made offerings to the Buddha, but also saved the lives of countless people. It doesn't matter if we can't achieve enlightenment. Why do we have to die so tragically?" ¡¯
The King of Hell snorted coldly and said: 'You said you saved people's lives, how did you save them? ¡¯
The couple then told them about catching and killing venomous snakes.
"The king of hell said with a smile: 'You said that you killed thousands of snakes to save people. This is killing." And if the snake was alive, it would eat many rats, insects, etc., and that would all be life. By killing so many snakes, you have saved so many rats and bugs. Only those rats and bugs survived, so there was this rat plague. So the two of you died uncontrollably, entirely at your own fault. What's there to dislike? ¡¯
The woman said forcefully: 'Everyone says that good deeds and evil deeds are rewarded. Why do we two do good deeds and get bad consequences? ¡¯
The King of Hell said: ¡®In the world, the Dao of Heaven is the largest, but the Dao of Heaven has its own rules. It does not care about good or evil, but only about cause and effect! Killing snakes is good for the villagers, but bad for the snakes. Therefore, the rats and insects that survived killed you. Isn't this the best proof? So there is no distinction between good and evil in this world, there is only a cycle of cause and effect. ¡¯
If you talk about it, how can the couple feel good at all, how can they expect to hurt themselves in the end. It can be seen that compared with the way of heaven, human's ability to predict is just like a grain of dust and not worth mentioning.
When the old monk said this, he said calmly: "This is today's story."
Ji Chan asked: "Is the story you told true?" The old monk stood up slowly and said: "If you think it is true, it is true; if you think it is false, it is false. True. True or false, that¡¯s what life is all about.¡±
Wang Yan also looked a little weird and said: "I would rather believe that this story is false. This couple is dedicated to good deeds. The Buddha also said that they can achieve righteousness. How could they end up in both lives and deaths?"
The eyes of the old monk who told the story would shine with a frightening look from his eyelids. Hearing this, he said calmly: "The cycle of cause and effect, regardless of good or evil, exists in the way of heaven. This is the way of heaven, and no one can change it."
The old monk just told a story. Although the content and clothes were a bit weird, it didn't make people afraid. However, at this moment, he was carrying an inexplicable aura.
Ji Chan didn't know what kind of temper she had committed, but she was calm and unafraid. She said bluntly, "As the saying goes, the Master has five virtues: gentleness, kindness, respect, frugality, and yielding. The Master treats others with gentleness, kindness, and respect. He treats everything Be respectful, thrifty, and tolerant to people, things, and things. It is because you have a heart of good and evil. How can you say that the way of heaven does not care about good and evil? A house that accumulates good deeds will have lingering happiness, and a house that accumulates bad deeds will have lingering disasters. This is what the Buddhist scriptures say. There are also talks about good and evil cause and effect. The so-called retribution of good and evil follows each other like a shadow, cause and effect in the three lives, and the cycle is not lost. The Analects of Confucius and the Buddhist scriptures all say this. It can be seen that the worldly law is like this, and the transcendental law must be like this."
The old monk nodded and said: "Young girl, although what you say is based on scriptures, can these mortal scriptures be greater than the laws of heaven that even gods dare not violate?"
Ji Chan heard the disdain in the old man's words and said suddenly: "Immortals are also cultivated by mortals. As long as the immortals cultivate to the extreme, they will naturally be able to hold the way of heaven in their hands."
The old man twirled his beard and smiled: "Cultivation of immortals? Do you know what an immortal is?"
Ji Chan was stunned for a moment, but didn't know how to answer. Wang Juan felt that this monk was very strange, so he tried to smooth things over by saying, "Master is well-versed in scriptures and naturally has more knowledge than us. Chan'er, you can just be more serious with me on weekdays. What's the point of being more serious with Master?"
Ji Chan pursed her lips and said nothing.
At this moment, the dried meat has been roasting on the fire for a while, and the aroma of meat slowly floats out, permeating this small ruined temple.
The old monk also put away the weird expression he had when telling the story, smacked his mouth, and seemed to become an ordinary person again. He shook his head and said: "It's a pity that I asked my apprentice to buy a bottle of wine, but it turned out that It¡¯s been a long time coming, otherwise wouldn¡¯t fine wine and dog meat be one of life¡¯s great pleasures?¡±
Wang Yan was startled when he heard this and said: "Master and his apprentice are nearby, but in the wilderness here, where can we go to get a drink?"
"Haha!" The old monk laughed enigmatically, then made a silent gesture and said, "Listen, isn't there the sound of footsteps? It should be my disciple who is often bullied!"
Wang Yan looked at the entrance of the temple in astonishment and saw nothing but darkness. There was no sound of footsteps. His heart skipped a beat and he thought to himself that he had met a crazy monk, right?
Wang Yan was currently hesitating whether to knock down this crazy monk and then have a good time. After taking a rest, suddenly the sound of dead branches being trampled was really heard outside.
There are really people!
"Master, Xue'er is back!"
The cold wind outside the temple blew in a pleasant female voice.
Wang Yan was even more surprised, this old monk also accepted a female disciple? But why does this voice seem familiar?
At this moment, Ji Chan happened to say: "Master, I haven't asked for the Dharma name yet. I wonder if you can tell me!"
A faint smile appeared on the monk's face: "The old monk's name is Ba Siba!"
