Text Chapter 89 Lead

Xia Xiang had an unscheduled lunch at a barbecue restaurant, then went to the police station, handed the deciphered letter to the surprised director, and then drove to the checkpoint.  He was still thinking about the coincidence about Jiang Tiansheng and why he was not in Lao Qiao Xiaolu at the critical moment.  He went to the garage owner.

"Why? Yes, Xia Xiang," said the owner of the garage, "there is indeed something wrong with the high-voltage lead. We have checked the magnet, and there is no problem with its working ability, and there is no problem with the plug. We wasted some time,  Later the mechanic said, 'I guess the only thing that could go wrong is the high-voltage lead,' right?

"That's right. I have a motorcycle, and its lead wires had problems before. The reason was that the insulation device did not match the radiator, so I asked: 'Could the Chapter 89 lead be a high-voltage lead fault?'  Then Mahon said, 'That's an idea.' Before I could say, 'Get the knife,' he pulled the leads out of the clip. 'Let's take a look,' I said. 'Check these have been  What's the use of broken things,' he said, 'You can't fix them even if you look at them. Just put in a new pair and that'll be fine.' So I took out a piece of high-voltage wire from my bag and put a pair of  The new leads were fixed in there and connected. The job was done quickly and beautifully. Detective, I knew there had to be something wrong with the insulation, didn't I? Mahon complained that the car had trouble starting and running the day before.  OK, that's because those leads were shorting out the car intermittently. I don't know what happened, but the leads may have gotten tangled together, so they stopped working at all on Thursday."

"It's very possible," Xia wanted to say, "Did you check the leads later?"

    The mechanic scratched his head.

"Now that you ask," he said, "I don't really know what happened to those leads. I just remember seeing Mahon shaking them in his hands, but whether he took them away or dropped them,  I don¡¯t know.¡±

"Ha" the garage owner said proudly, "but I did remember the fuse in Chapter 89. When Ma Hong went to start the engine, he put the fuse into his pocket. But he was really careless.  While wiping the oil on my fingers with my handkerchief, I took out the leads and threw them on the grass. I picked them up. He didn't need them anyway, so I threw them into the small bag I carried with me.  . I am a very careful person, and I thought that one day I would be able to use them on a motorcycle or some other vehicle. If no one has used them yet, it should still be there."

"I want to take a look."

"This is simple," the owner of the garage said as he took out a small tool bag and rummaged through various odds and ends. "This is simple, right here. You can see now, how  He is a careful person.¡±

Xia Xiang took the pair of leads from his hand.

"Well, yes, just where they pass under the clip, their threads seem to be mixed together." He pulled the threads apart, "But there is obviously no problem with the insulation device. Haha"

He put one hand gently under a lead and stroked it.

    ¡°That¡¯s the problem,¡± he said.

The owner of the garage also put his fingers under it, then exclaimed and pulled his hand back.

"It's very sharp here," he muttered, "What is it?"

¡°I think it¡¯s a sewing needle,¡± Xia wanted to say. ¡°Give me a sharp knife and we¡¯ll find out soon.

When the insulation device is opened, all the lines are clearly visible.  A broken needle passed through the lead wire and nothing could be seen on the outside.  When the two leads are placed side by side, the needle passes through them at the same time, effectively connecting the wires and causing a lack of spark.

"Well, that's it," said the garage owner, "How could anyone come up with such a cunning and dirty thing? Who on earth wants to deal with me like this? How could you not see that the two leads are  Mixed together like that?"

¡°If the leads were in their original position, no one would see them,¡± Xia wanted to say. ¡°They are under the clip.¡±

"And Mahon pulled the leads so suddenly," said the mechanic, "that I couldn't have seen them. Of course, if I had gotten them afterward¡ª"

He stared at his boss reproachfully, but the latter ignored his look.

¡°I was wondering,¡± said the garage owner, ¡°how could you even think of something like this, Detective?¡±

¡°I¡¯ve seen this happen before. It¡¯s a handy trick if you want to frustrate a particular bike at the start of a race, for example.¡±

"Come over and askAbout our lead, did you already know where the needle would be found, detective?  "

"No. I just want to make sure that I won't find the needle. The purpose of my coming here is to make sure that there is no needle there. You two don't tell anyone about this, not a word."

"Why, detective? We really want to know who the hell was doing this dirty stuff on Mahon's car."

"Don't say it. If necessary, I will help you investigate. But it is very likely that the person who did this is related to the person who did the trick on the flat iron, so it is best not to tell it. Do you understand? Some people don't want to  Let Mahon go to the village that morning.¡±

"I understand, Detective. No problem, we won't say anything. But this is really weird."

"Yes," Xia wanted to say, "very strange."

This incident was stranger than the garage owner imagined, but the glint in the mechanic's eyes seemed to say that he was beginning to understand the full weirdness.  On a motorcycle, a needle piercing two high-voltage leads will only cause intermittent sparks or an erratic ride, but on a three-wheeler, it will render the ignition system completely inoperable.  Mahon's motorcycle kept running (albeit not in great condition) Wednesday until he returned to Old Joe Trail.  For Xia Xiang, he knew that Ma Hong was Jiang Tiansheng, so the whole thing was even more unexplainable.  Why did Jiang Tiansheng rent a motorcycle and hit the road?  He had a tent and luggage to carry, wouldn't it be more convenient to rent a larger car?  He specially asked for a motorcycle, and this kind of motorcycle happened to be completely disabled by a needle. Is this another coincidence?  It is true that the tax on motorcycles is lower than that on four-wheeled vehicles, but Jiang Tiansheng does not need to pay this tax.  Maybe it's cheaper when renting, but in that case, why did Jiang Tiansheng have to be so economical on renting a car for a week?

¡°Also, and no matter how you look at it, it is obvious that someone deliberately attracted Jiang Tiansheng to the village and did not want him to stay on Lao Qiao Trail.  Was it another coincidental joke to make the motorcycle run illegally at that particular moment?  of course not.  But who did it?  Someone who wants a witness at the level?  Someone who wants Jiang Tiansheng to continue investigating in the village?  Why did Jiang Tiansheng complain that the car didn't work well before that day?  Maybe there were only intermittent lulls, and then a sudden outburst?  Too many coincidences.

One thing is certain: that Jiang Tiansheng, the Jiang Tiansheng who arrived under a false name, dyed his hair, and black eyes to investigate his own personal affairs, got himself involved in a confusing series of coincidences and speculations that seemed almost  It's like the devil is deliberately hindering the investigation of the case.

Another thing seems certain: all the inferences Xia Xiang has conceived so far are completely and maddeningly irrelevant to the facts.
