Volume 2: Three Pillars Chapter 30: The Soviet Union breaks off diplomatic relations

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

Early the next morning, Zhang Anle entered the office and learned the good news.  The First Army, the Second Army, and the Fourth Army are all elite divisions of the Northern Expeditionary Army. The First Army is known as the direct troops of the Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Expedition, Chiang Kai-shek, and the Fourth Army is known as the Iron Army.  These three armies stand between Guangdong and Hunan, like a gate, blocking the way of the National Defense Forces.  Now that the three armies have been defeated, the door to Hunan is open. According to the original plan of the third and fourth divisions, the direct division and the first division to join Hengyang, it will be realized in the near future.

Once the two armies join forces in Hengyang and attack the Northern Expeditionary Army in Jiangxi together with the troops from Jiujiang and Zhejiang, the overall situation will be decided. Just as he is waiting with hope for the day of China's reunification, something suddenly comes and disrupts his deployment.  .

On July 9, 1926, the Soviet Embassy in China suddenly handed over its credentials to Zhang Anle and severed diplomatic relations with the Republic of China. The reason was that the Chinese government violated the treaty, forcibly took back the China Eastern Railway, and innocently arrested and killed Soviet people in the Northeast.

This happened suddenly, and Zhang Anle felt baffled.  The system also shows the event of the severance of diplomatic relations between China and the Soviet Union.

With the defeat of the Guangzhou National Government, the Northeast District Government's take back of some facilities of the China Eastern Railway aroused the dissatisfaction of Soviet leader Stalin.  Stalin decided to sever diplomatic relations with the Chinese government, withdraw all experts in Mongolia, and stop all cooperation projects with China.

The impact of the incident on the relationship between China and the Soviet Union 150.

Zhang Anle suddenly remembered something he had read on the Internet in his previous life, which was the Middle East Railway Incident: After Zhang Zuolin's death, Zhang Xueliang changed his banner to the Northeast, and Chiang Kai-shek also joined the anti-Soviet team internationally in order to promote the anti-Soviet policy.  In order to prevent the Soviet Union from aiding the gd, and at the same time to weaken the strength of the Northeast Army, Zhang Xueliang was encouraged to take back the China Eastern Railway by force.

Since Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang had successively taken back some of the facilities of the China Eastern Railway, the Soviet Union acquiesced. Zhang Xueliang mistakenly believed that the Soviet Union was a strong foreign power but a weak power, so he decided to take back the China Eastern Railway by force.

Later, there was a big war between the Northeast Army and the Soviet Union.  Because gd played a disgraceful role in the war at that time, many people do not know this history. Those who are interested can search for armed defense of the Soviet Union.  I won¡¯t go into details here.

This time the Soviet Union suddenly wanted to sever diplomatic relations, and the string in Zhang Anle's heart was suddenly touched.  The death of Zhang Zuolin has been brought forward, so this incident will also be brought forward.

If both sides really use force, China will definitely not be the opponent of the Soviet Union.  Zhang Anle broke into cold sweat when he thought of this.  Not to mention that most of the National Defense Forces were fighting the Northern Expedition in the south, the border between China and the Soviet Union, which stretched for thousands of kilometers, was also very difficult to defend.  Because the battle in history was between the Soviet Union and the Northeast Army, the main front was the border between Northeast China and the Soviet Union.

Zhang Anle quickly called Zhang Xueliang to learn about the situation. Zhang Xueliang also felt a little baffled about the matter.  He said that the telephone rights of the China Eastern Railway and the Harbin Meteorological Observatory were clearly stipulated in the previous treaty to be returned to China.  The Soviet side did not say anything about the withdrawal. He believed that the Soviets were in the wrong and acquiesced in the matter.

As for the arrest of the Soviets, it was because the Soviets were causing trouble in the Northeast recently.  Several Soviets had to be arrested to maintain public order, but they were all let go immediately.  As for killing the Soviets, that is out of the question.

? Ordinarily, the Soviet Union should not have such a big reaction, because they did not protest in advance.  Or dissatisfied.  Such a direct severance of diplomatic relations without warning is not in line with international practice.  Zhang Anle couldn't figure out what the problem was.

In fact, this matter has a lot to do with Zhang Anle. After Lenin's death, Stalin and Trotsky competed for the leadership of the Soviet Union.  Stalin felt that his own strength was not enough to shake the alliance between Trotsky and Stalin's wife Krupskaya, so he also formed an alliance with Kamenev and Zinoviev.

January 1925.  The Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Russian Communist Party dominated by the Stalinists passed the "Resolution on Trotsky's Speeches", criticizing him for "attempting to exchange Trotskyism for Leninism"; the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the Soviet Union decided to dismiss Trotsky from the army and navy  The positions of People's Commissar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Military Committee.  In January 1925, he was forced to resign as Military People's Commissar.  Changed to director of the Electrical Technology Development Bureau and chairman of the Industry and Technology Committee.  Trotsky was thus defeated.

Soon after, Kamenev, Zinoviev and Stalin's governing philosophy were at odds with each other, so they united with Trotsky and formed an opposition alliance with Krupskaya and others, the "New Opposition"  .  At the 14th Party Congress in 1925, they openly confronted the mainstream faction headed by Stalin.

Gradually, the two sides became incompatible and began to confront each other for the sake of confrontation. Whether it was domestic or foreign affairs, if you supported it, I would oppose it.  On the issue of China, the Soviet Union's largest neighbor, both sides also held different opinions.

AlthoughIt was Stalin who first proposed cooperation with Zhang Anle, who was still the Mongolian warlord at the time, but now Trotsky believes that Zhang Anle has taken control of China's national power and has become China's de facto leader.  The Soviet government should continue to increase cooperation with China and stop cooperation with the Nationalist Government.

Stalin believed that a divided China was more in the interests of the Soviet Union than a unified China, and it turned out that Zhang Anle was a nationalist, and if he unified China, it would be a huge threat to the Soviet Union.

The two sides quarreled, but Zhang Anle's battle with the Japanese in Northeast China confirmed Stalin's point of view.  Next, the Nationalist Government launched an army for the Northern Expedition. Stalin was very happy and used this to continuously attack Trotsky's anti-Stalin alliance.

Zhang Anle¡¯s sudden counterattack not only failed to have any negative impact on Stalin, but actually promoted the passage of his proposal on ¡°further intervention in the Chinese Civil War.¡±  Because they believe that if Zhang Anle is not stopped, China will soon be unified.

To this end, the Soviet Union formulated a plan to intervene armedly in China's unification plan if necessary.  Just when they had no excuse, Zhang Xueliang's withdrawal of the telephone rights of the China Eastern Railway became a trigger.

The Soviet government took the opportunity to incite the Soviets in the Northeast to cause trouble and instructed the workers on the China Eastern Railway to be passive and sabotage.

Zhang Anle did not dare to neglect this matter. While urging the south to step up its offensive, he also learned about the situation in the Soviet Union.

Another big thing happened the next day. Yang Zengxin, the governor of Xinjiang Province and commander of the Xinjiang Security Command, was assassinated by Fan Yaonan.

July 10th is the day when Fan Yaonan held the first graduation ceremony of the Xinjiang Russian Law and Politics School (actually it was July 7th, 2028, so let¡¯s move it up here).  Yang Zengxin led civil and military officials from various departments to the school to celebrate. Fan Yaonan, the school supervisor and director of the Military Affairs Department, hosted a banquet in honor of Yang Zengxin.

The waiter at the banquet suddenly pulled out his gun and shot Yang Zengxin three times.  Yang Zengxin died on the spot. Fan Yaonan calmly directed the blue-shirted waiter to keep an eye on the guests, declared Yang Zengxin a dictator and a stubborn conservative, and ordered him to be executed.  Fan Yaonan shot Yang Zengxin's body twice and announced the start of the national revolution.  Subsequently, Fan Yaonan led students from the Russian Legal and Political School to rush to the Military Governor's Office.  Soon they occupied the Governor's Office, and Fan Yaonan sent a telegram to the whole country, announcing that he would join the National Revolutionary Army and break away from the Beijing government.

Fan Yaonan's actions puzzled Zhang Anle because he was dissatisfied with Yang Zengxin's assassination of him, which was understandable.  But now that the Northern Expeditionary Army is retreating steadily, it is really unwise to join the Northern Expeditionary Army at this time.

This incident made Zhang Anle suddenly feel a little uneasy. He read the secret report sent from Xinjiang again and discovered the name of Wolf, the Soviet consul in Xinjiang.  This matter had something to do with the Soviets, Zhang Anle came to this conclusion without even thinking about it.

Zhang Anle¡¯s guess was correct, this matter was indeed related to the Soviet Union.

At the post-improvement meeting not long ago, Zhang Anle made adjustments to some central and local institutions.  Xinjiang is no exception. Yang Zengxin has appointed himself governor of Xinjiang Province and commander of the Security Command.  He was also ordered to draw up a list of Xinjiang government members and prepare to submit it to the central government.  From this list, Fan Yaonan alone was removed from the list of Xinjiang Provincial Government Department and Directors.

This matter was found out by Fan Yaonan due to lax planning.  Fan Yaonan was also the director of the Xinjiang Negotiation Agency and had always had close ties with the Soviets.  The Soviet consul in Xinjiang, Wolf, was Stalin's employee. He knew that Stalin wanted to take action against China. He believed that he could join forces with Fan Yaonan to overthrow Yang Zengxin and bring Xinjiang into the Soviet sphere of influence.

His plan was approved by the Soviet government, so he facilitated Fan Yaonan to plan the assassination of Yang Zengxin.

Xinjiang¡¯s separation from the Beijing government only affected Zhang Anle by a few points, and its relationship with the Soviet Union dropped by a few points.  It does not have a big impact in other aspects. After all, his tentacles have not yet reached Xinjiang.

Now we can only put aside the Xinjiang issues for now. The top priority is how to deal with the Soviets.  According to the information he received, Stalin was very concerned about this matter.  Because he had just gained the upper hand in the domestic political struggle and continued to improve his domestic prestige.  Stalin knew very well that what can best increase a person's prestige is war, a victorious war!  In his eyes, among the surrounding countries, China is the best choice because China is a big country but not a big country.

China¡¯s military and economic strength are not considered a big country, but China¡¯s population and land area determine that China is a big country.  Therefore, China is the most suitable country to help him enhance his prestige.

Knowing that Stalin wanted a war, Zhang Anle could only instruct Zhang Xueliang to try to solve the problem through diplomatic means, at least to delay it for a while. He wanted to mobilize troops from the south to the north.

Zhang Anle ordered the directThe 1st Division immediately took a boat to Tianjin, and at the same time ordered the 4th, 3rd, 10th and 16th Divisions to move north immediately.  At the same time, the 14th Division, which was still in the northeast, was ordered to go to Harbin.  The 11th and 12th Divisions and the Armored Division stationed in Mongolia were ordered to pay close attention to the border situation, and Wu Xinliang's 7th Division was ordered to go to Ansu Road to guard the western frontier together with the 5th Division Wang Zhenbu.  To be continued.  .
