Li Chunfeng¡¯s view of modern geography

In February of the second year of Zhenguan, the weather was no longer as cold as winter, and the snow in winter had long since turned into snow water, flowing along the walls of the square and into the Qujiang River or the moat.  The whole Chang'an was wet, as if it had been washed.  Elderly people inside and outside the community say that this early spring has come too early.  .

In Tianxian Palace, Huang Junming ended today¡¯s morning class early.  Sitting face to face with Li Chunfeng.  He was reading the blue-covered classic in his hand. Through the rolled-up cover, the word "Tao Zang" was clearly visible. In the place covered by the pages, the word "¾" for "classic" was vaguely revealed.  This is the volume in the Taoist Canon in which the sutras are written.

"Chunfeng, have you sorted out your astrology?" Huang Junming asked casually while reading a book.

Li Chunfeng took out a stack of bound books from the small package behind him and placed them between the two of them.  He also answered casually: "Since I got the sky-viewing mirror, Xiaodao has studied the stars a lot more carefully. Some of the questions that I had questions about before have been explained clearly. These are some of the stars that Xiaodao has summarized in the past few days.  All knowledge is here. Please let the immortal read it."

Huang Junming put down the book in his hand, carefully took out a small gold Bagua Tai Chi bookmark, sandwiched it between the pages of the book, and put the book aside.  He took out a book of astrology compiled by Li Chunfeng and looked at the thick pages before opening it.  Then he said to Li Chunfeng: "Chunfeng, it seems that your time has been devoted to studying the stars recently. Let me take a look at what you have earned these days."

When Li Chunfeng heard this, he stood up very proudly.  If I don¡¯t talk about anything else, let¡¯s just talk about this aspect of the astrology.  Li Chunfeng believed that there were really few people in the Tang Dynasty who could compare with him.  Even his master Yuan Tiangang may not be better than him at this point, and besides, he now uses a magical weapon like the "Sky Observing Mirror".  He is even more comfortable studying the operations of the stars.  It's really amazing.  Although he was proud, he still calmed down slightly in front of Huang Junming.  He cited the book with one hand and said to Huang Junming: "Please, Immortal."

After finishing, he looked expectant again.  Staring at Huang Junming's expression, he realized that many of the ideas in his book were conclusions he came to after inadvertently hearing Huang Junming say them and then confirming them.  Since Huang Junming can say this, it further proves that Huang Junming understands the astrology and is only higher than himself. Moreover, Huang Junming's status as an immortal master makes him more aware of the value of the fruits of his labor in Huang Junming's eyes.  So uneasy.

Huang Junming opened the first page and read it carefully. To be honest, Huang Junming was very familiar with astrology, how the stars work, and what the names of these stars are.  What is it used for?  It's really half a bucket of water, if it weren't for the Taoist theory of twenty-eight constellations, Tiangang and Earth.  I had some exposure to some things in modern times, but I'm afraid Huang Junming really couldn't understand the things in his book.

I have to say that what Li Chunfeng wrote is still very attractive.  Huang Junming was already immersed in it after just one glance. The book in Huang Junming's hand was the first book on Li Chunfeng's astrology concepts.  It is written about the earth, a planet that Huang Junming knows quite well.  Naturally, the more Huang Junming watched, the more he enjoyed it.

The earth in Li Chunfeng¡¯s works is basically the same as modern people¡¯s understanding. Let¡¯s start with the several catastrophes mentioned by Huang Junming.  It is said that the current earth is not the same as what was recorded in the myths in ancient books. It is not the same, but a sphere formed the day after tomorrow.  As for why it is a sphere, Li Chunfeng used examples such as the waxing and waning of the moon and the fact that troops often see flags first and then human bodies when looking at them from a distance on the plains.

He also changed the original geocentric theory to heliocentric theory. Although the ancient Chinese understood heliocentric theory relatively early, it was only after the Tang Dynasty. In other words, Li Chunfeng was the first person in the world to introduce heliocentric theory.  The person who put these two points into his pen: and that the earth is round.  With this, Li Chunfeng is enough to be famous throughout the ages.

After these two points, Li Chunfeng explained the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, day and night. The answer to this explanation is naturally the revolution of the earth and autobiography. Of course, this is not what Huang Junming said.  , it is obvious that Li Chunfeng came to the conclusion through experiments and observations based on Huang Junming's occasional words.

What shocked Huang Junming the most was that Li Chunfeng actually wrote that night and day are always half and half on the earth, and different areas receive the first ray of sunlight at different times.  Things like there is more water on earth than land.  If Li Chunfeng hadn't mentioned it in this book, Huang Junming himself might have temporarily forgotten these points.

Sometimes, although there is a lot of knowledge in the mind, it does not mean that you can think of it anytime and anywhere, right?

Li Chunfeng attributed the earth's day and night to the supreme law of heaven and the mutual development of yin and yang.  At the same time, he corrected the fact that the earth is roundThe shape is still turning on its own.  Otherwise it would not be night and day.  The sunrise time is different, but Li Chunfeng personally tested it. Many experimental reports were written on it, and the supporting evidence is quite strong.

Although this ancient experimental report is not as clear as the modern report, it is something that everyone from officials to businessmen knows. After all, there are many things that require reasons, processes, and results.  And these must be written on paper. Over hundreds or thousands of years, the Chinese people have long summarized a set of report formats.  Huang Junming has been in Tang Dynasty for several years, so he naturally understands.

The fact that there is more water than land on the earth is another answer. In Li Chunfeng's view, the water in the world is endless, otherwise, the rivers cannot continue to flow.  And it is precisely because the river is always in a state of flow that it merges from the original clear spring into a creek, then the creek merges into a river, and the river merges into a large river, and finally flows into the sea.  Over time, there is naturally more water than soil.  The land that people live on now may not be this piece of land, because as long as the land is higher than the water, it is a square circle.  The land of the earth is like the valleys and plains we see now. The plains are the intersection of water and land. The places lower than the plains are naturally occupied by water. The land where people live now is like the mountains of the entire earth.  From the land perspective, there are many high mountains, and it is likely that the same is true throughout the entire earth, otherwise there would be no islands.  There must be large "islands" in the sea.  And is a very large island a place where one person can survive?  Is it another territory?  Li Chunfeng wrote his suspicions in the book.  Although there are many loopholes in this view, in Huang Junming's eyes, it contains a considerable amount of information.
