One hundred and ninety-nine Imperial Envoy

In the ninth year of Taichang, in the early morning of July 13th, the Dongping Mausoleum Guards evacuated from Leping, Wuchuan.

When coming from Dongping to Wuchuan, the soldiers and horses of Dongling Guard used the cover of the caravan to sneak into Leping like thieves. On the way back, there was no need to be sneaky.  Meng Juliang unfurled the White Wolf battle flag of the Dongling Guards, and the team spread out in a row. Hundreds of carriages meandered for miles, the White Wolf battle flag was fluttering, and more than 600 armored warriors patrolled back and forth, patrolling the guards front and back. They were so arrogant.

After traveling for a day, Meng Ju received a reconnaissance report from the rear guard, saying that there were soldiers and horses of unknown origin snooping and following behind the Dongling Guards, who seemed to have bad intentions.  After hearing the report, Meng Ju personally led fifty armored fighters to the back road to meet Wang Beixing's rear team.

"Governor, look! They are right over there, following us all the time, but they don't dare to come up. They are lingering. It's very abominable!"

Following the direction pointed by Wang Beixing, Meng Ju saw the small black dot on the horizon.  It can be vaguely seen that the other party is also an armored warrior. They are parked on the plain in the distance and looking here from a distance.

    "Which troop is this?"

Wang Beixing shrugged: "It's not ours, it must be the Wuchuan border army's."

Meng Ju wanted to go over and investigate, but Wang Beixing held him back: "Governor, it's useless. We have tried it just now. They ran away as soon as we got close to them, and they followed us after we left. These people are like  It¡¯s really annoying to stare at us like wolves and not dare to come up to fight.¡±

Meng Ju squinted his eyes and stared at the small black dots in the distance, and pursed the corners of his mouth into a thin line resolutely.

Just like experienced sailors who can smell signs of an approaching storm from the sea breeze blowing over, Meng Ju and Wang Beixing both understood that although there was only a small group of armored warriors tracking them at the moment, behind this small group of men and horses,  There must be a large group of border troops hidden.

Meng Ju stood there and looked at the armored warrior in the distance for a while.  Everyone said nothing, but they could all feel that the gazes from afar were cold and sharp, containing murderous intent.

After the last truck at the end of the motorcade passed by, Meng Ju turned around and said, "Let's go, let's follow the team."

"That's the Dongling Guard's troops over there."

The person who spoke was a tall and strong man.  This man has a wide face and a big mouth, simple appearance, and heroic momentum. He is wearing a black tiger-style battle armor, without a helmet, and his head is shiny.  He touched his shiny bald head and said with emotion: "I wonder if Meng Ju is there? Hong Shuai, how about we go over and say hello to him?"

"Helian, if you want to die on your own, don't get involved with me." Another frontier general wearing a leopard-style battle armor said rudely. Under the scorching sun, he also did not wear a helmet, and under his thick bun  Sweat broke out all the time.  He wiped his sweat and said, "There are five to six hundred armored warriors on the Dongling Guard side. If you are not afraid of being beaten to death, just go over there!"

"I'm not afraid of Meng Ju, nor the armored warriors of the Dongling Guards! But I won't let Shentu Jue's pride go in vain." Helian Bashan smiled, showing his snow-white teeth.

With different moods, the two brigade commanders stood there, watching the Dongling Guards' convoy gradually disappear from sight.

On July 16, after three days of trekking, the attacking Dongling Guards finally returned to Jingan City.  Because the two sides had not officially started fighting, Meng Ju did not intend to publicize the matter. The victorious troops entered the city at midnight. More than 700 armored warriors marched along the long street. The loud footsteps shattered the tranquility of Jing'an late at night.

At the gate of Jing'an City, many Jing'an military and political officials who had received the news in advance were waiting, including Xiao Heng, commander of the garrison brigade, Ouyang Hui, inspector of the Dongping Mausoleum Guard Integrity Department, Lan Zheng, inspector of the Jing'an Mausoleum Department, and others.  In the night, people's faces were solemn, and the atmosphere was not like welcoming a victorious soldier, but rather like attending a memorial service.

    "We're back."

"Thank you for your hard work, sir. Welcome back safely."

Meng Ju shook hands vigorously with the waiting people one by one: "Thank you for your hard work!"

The subordinates and colleagues were not used to this kind of salute. They were more accustomed to cupping their hands or kneeling. Facing the enthusiastic hands stretched out by Governor Meng, they were at a loss. They were awkwardly shaken by Meng Ju's hand -  ¡ªMeng Ju felt that only in this way could he express his overwhelming gratitude.

Those in front of you are all your loyal subordinates and friends.  During the days when they left, they still held the rear position for themselves, allowing themselves to have a reliable rear that they could safely use in the front.

Because Governor Meng destroyed the four brigades of the border army, the Dongling Guards gained great victory from then on.Victory - no one here has such childish thoughts.  Everyone knows that the Dongling Guards won the first battle, but due to the huge strength gap between the Dongling Guards and the border troops, the subsequent struggle will only become more and more difficult.

Is it duty, loyalty, or loyalty?  Meng Ju was very moved. He didn't even understand what kind of thing was supporting everyone to follow him wholeheartedly until now, fighting such a war with no hope of victory.

Although he knew that everyone probably already knew this, Meng Ju still briefly talked about the results of this trip. He especially emphasized that this battle had defeated the four brigades of the border army, and one of them was the trump card of Northern Xinjiang.  Army Red Eyebrow Brigade.

"With the four brigades of border troops defeated, I estimate that the remaining border troops in Wuchuan will no longer be able to attack us alone. Tuoba Xiong's threat to Dongping has been temporarily eliminated. Therefore, everyone can feel at ease for the time being.  "

Because the two sides were already fighting, Meng Ju had no scruples when speaking and called Tuoba Xiong by his first name.

Inspector Ouyang Hui of the Integrity Department coughed dryly and said: "Inspector, we just received a message from the court two days ago. We would have sent someone to deliver the letter to you right away, but you have already come back. Maybe the person who delivered the letter  I may have missed you on the road."

"Huh? Has the court responded? What did they say?"

Ouyang Hui glanced at the people around him, his face was troubled: "Supervisor, can you please take a step to speak?"

Looking at Ouyang Hui's expression, Meng Ju knew that the news coming from the court was definitely not good.  He glanced at Xiao Heng, Lan Zheng and others and said, "No need, we are all our own people here. Inspector Ouyang, it's up to you."

Ouyang Hui whispered: "Governor, the General Administration and the imperial court seem to be very unhappy about your killing of the eldest son, Sun Shou The post said that the imperial envoy from the imperial court will be coming down soon.  Beijiang investigates the truth about Changsun Shou."

"The imperial court wants to send an imperial envoy to investigate?" Meng Ju was stunned for a moment: "Who is the imperial envoy?"

"There are three imperial envoys in total. The chief envoy is Wei Ping, the imperial censor, the minister of military affairs, Gao Bin, and the counselor Nan Muhe of Dongling Guard are the deputy envoys. The post said that they set out from Luojing on July 10th. It is estimated that  It will be here soon. The imperial court wants us in Dongping to do a good job of welcoming the imperial envoy."

Meng Ju raised his brows: "Dongping is required to be responsible for receiving the imperial envoy? Who from Dongping?"

"The post didn't say who it was, it just said that the Dongping local government was responsible for the reception of the imperial envoy. Well, there was also a brigade of Jinwu Guards who escorted the imperial envoy."

    "I know, let's go back."

Seeing the relaxed look on Governor Meng¡¯s face, the officials didn¡¯t know why, and they also breathed a sigh of relief¡ªit was really difficult for them to grasp the subtleties of the court¡¯s political disputes, and they could only observe the clues from their boss¡¯s face.

Meng Ju knew that the court's post must have spoken very harshly and frightened Ouyang Hui.  But in the eyes of people like Meng Ju who have seen the big world, the words and sentences in the imperial newspaper are not important at all. The key is what the imperial court does.

What does the court plan to do?

Although the court spoke sternly, Meng Ju had already seen their intentions from some subtle details: Among the imperial envoys sent by the court, Dongling Guard Counselor Nan Muhe was also one of them, which in itself showed partiality.  It tasted; Dongling Guards were asked to be responsible for receiving the imperial envoys, and important ministers like Wei Ping, the censor Zhongcheng, were sent. This was not an attitude to deal with Meng Ju.

" The need to send important officials like Wei Ping, the censor Zhongcheng, to come to Northern Xinjiang shows that the imperial court also felt that matters in Northern Xinjiang were difficult and that Wei Zhongcheng was needed to calm things down.  If they want to deal with Meng Ju, all they need to do is send an inspector from the Dongling General Health Administration with a warrant from Bai Wusha, and Wei Zhongcheng's command will not be disturbed.

Meng Ju guessed that Wei Ping was most likely here to suppress Tuoba Xiong.  Among the important ministers in the imperial court today, in terms of qualifications and prestige, only Grand Master Duanmu Liang, Prime Minister Gao Huan, or Yushi Wei Ping can rival Tuoba Xiong.  Although the post stated that he was only here to investigate the truth behind Chang Sun Shou's death, Meng Ju guessed that the investigation was probably a secondary purpose. Mediating the dispute between Meng Ju and the border troops was Wei Zhongcheng's main task.

Although Bai Wusha of the Dongling Guards is very powerful and is favored by the emperor, his qualifications are too young after all. He still relied on the emperor's close favor to start his career. Speaking of it, he has never been able to put it on the table. He is not as good as an authentic old man like Wei Zhongcheng.  Senior civil servant.  Moreover, Wei Ping has a reputation for being fair and honest. If he came to mediate, it would be easier for Tuoba Xiong to accept it.

After returning to Dongping, Meng Ju gave his subordinates who had worked hard on the expedition a holiday to rest, and he himself hid at home to rest.

Although he said he was resting at home, Meng Ju never had a day to spare.  The town governor had been away for more than ten days, and there was a mountain of matters waiting to be dealt with in the mausoleum office.Everyone had figured out the temper of the town governor, and they lined up in front of the town governor's house with stacks of official documents, waiting to be received. In fact, although the official business was important, it was not so urgent that they could not wait for a day or two. It was really  Too many major events have happened recently, and everyone is dazzled and panicked.  Everyone is looking forward to meeting the governor alone. Maybe the governor will slip up and reveal some inside information to himself, and he can take advantage of the situation to show his loyalty.

Inspector Ouyang Hui of the Integrity Department, Inspector Xu Long of the Military Intelligence Department, Inspector Ning Nan of the Search Department, Inspector Wei Lan of the Internal Affairs Department, Inspector Fang Mushan of the Criminal Cases Department, and Lan Zheng, Chief Manager of the Jing'an Department - over the next few days, the mid-level officers of the Mausoleum Department  They came almost all the time, and Meng Ju took great pains to receive him. He almost wanted to run away from home.

It¡¯s not just them.  In the past few days, Governor Meng showed great power and annihilated four brigades of border troops in Wuchuan in one fell swoop. This news has spread in both the military and political circles of Dongping.  Not only Xiao Heng, Yi Xiaodao and others came to ask Meng Ju for news, but Brigadier General Guan Shanhe, Brigadier Bai Yubian, Brigadier Han Bin and other Brigade Commanders who were not in Jing'an also sent people to congratulate Meng Ju - of course,  The border generals did not congratulate Governor Meng for his victory over the Wuchuan frontier army. They all just said politely: "I heard that Governor Meng has been very lucky recently. He has won consecutive victories and killed all sides. Congratulations!"

Meng Ju is very clear about the embarrassment of the border generals who worry about gains and losses.  In the eyes of these treacherous and cunning border generals, whoever dared to go against Tuoba Xiong in the Northern Territory was just a mad dog that bit people indiscriminately.

Although everyone believes that in the end, the powerful Marshal Tuoba will definitely be able to take care of this mad dog that bites people everywhere, but the problem is that the mad dog is still energetic now. He bit off the fourth brigade of Wuchuan in one breath.  In the army, even fierce men like Li Chimei suffered heavy losses at his hands. If everyone is in Dongping, it will not be difficult for Uncle Meng to deal with himself.

For safety reasons, it is necessary to maintain a good relationship with the mad dog.

Coincidentally, the plans of the border generals coincided with Meng Ju's.  Since Dongping's generals are very sensible and don't provoke him, he can't do anything to them.  His enemies are only Tuoba Xiong and Shen Tu Jue, not the entire northern border army.

Therefore, Meng Ju had a very good attitude towards the visiting border army envoys.  Not only did he chat with the envoys in a pleasant manner, he also took the initiative to mention to them that you haven't received your salary for July yet. Please ask your commander-in-chief to send a quartermaster to negotiate with the mausoleum office.

When the envoys reported that the Dongling Guards planned to pay everyone, the brigade commanders were stunned.  The Dongling Guards attacked the Dudu's Mansion and captured the treasury in the Dudu's Mansion, which included the salaries of the border generals and brigades. Everyone knew this.  But Zhigui knew that no one had any intention of going out to ask for the money from Meng Ju - what a joke, that mad dog dared to kill even a provincial governor. Wouldn't it be tiring to beg money from him?

Although the pay for June has not been paid, the brigade marshals are not short of the pay. As senior officers guarding one side, they have many ways to get money, and they do not need to take the risk.  As for the soldiers under my command who will go hungry if they don¡¯t get paid¡ªfuck it, what does that have to do with me?  As a military attache of the Wei Dynasty, he might not know how to fight or plan, but there was one skill that he had to master, and that was to be able to treat the soldiers under his command as if they were nothing.  Whether they starve to death or freeze to death, it has nothing to do with me!  The people who deducted their pay were the Dongling Guards. They didn't pay them, so I lost the opportunity to take advantage of them, and the loss was huge!

So, when they heard that Meng Ju planned to pay him in full, the first reaction of the generals was, has this guy got a funny head?  But since Governor Meng said it, those who don't want it are fools. The generals thought they might as well give it a try and sent quartermasters one after another. In the end, they really got the money, so the brigade commanders sang their praises like a wave of praises.  He praised Bo Yuntian, the governor of Meng Town, for his righteousness and generosity. He was really a good brother to everyone - strangely enough, Changsun Shou paid the military salary every time, but no one came out to say a good word for him after he died; Meng Ju just paid  The military leaders were paid a month's salary, so everyone said that Governor Meng was generous.  It can be seen that a bad person who occasionally does a good thing is much more popular than a lifelong good person.

¡°Perhaps Tuoba Xiong and the border army also got the news that the imperial envoy from the imperial court was about to arrive. In the next few days, the border army¡¯s fierce revenge did not come, and the situation was calm.

Dongling Guard¡¯s spies stationed in Wuchuan, Dongping, Chicheng and other places reported that there was no sign of mobilization of the local border troops.  Especially in Wuchuan, although four border military brigades were destroyed by Meng Ju, the province still gathered six border military brigades that still retained their combat effectiveness. Among them were brave generals such as Helian Bashan and Hong Tianyi, and their weight was still overwhelming.  Underestimation.  Fortunately, the Wuchuan border army was busy containing the broken troops and reorganizing the army, and there was no intention to launch another attack. This made Meng Ju feel relieved.

On July 30, the ninth year of Taichang, Meng Ju received news that the imperial envoy and his party had entered Shuozhou, near Dongping.

Regarding Wei Zhongcheng¡¯s arrival in Northern XinjiangMeng Ju was a little surprised when he chose Dongping as the first stop.  He originally thought that based on his status and strength, Wei Zhongcheng should first visit Tuoba Xiong after arriving in Northern Xinjiang, but Wei Zhongcheng visited him first.

In order to welcome Wei Zhongcheng, Meng Ju led the important officials of the Mausoleum Office to Lianjiang Mansion and waited at the provincial border in Dongping.

On August 1, the envoy to serve as an outpost for the imperial convoy arrived.

The envoy is a supervisory censor named Huang Ran from Yushitai, who is in his forties.

When they met and exchanged identities, Huang Yushi's attitude was very arrogant. He looked more like an imperial envoy than an errand boy. He spoke with a nasal accent, and his attitude towards Meng Ju was as if he was waiting for someone.  Same as convicted criminals.

He didn't even exchange greetings, but said directly: "Mr. Meng, you have caused a big trouble this time, and you are too courageous! Master Zhongcheng is very angry. Nothing like this has ever happened in the Wei Dynasty. Dong Dong  The governor of Lingwei actually killed the governor and went out of the province to attack friendly forces - Governor Meng, you did such a treasonous thing, do you want your life?"

Meng Ju blinked his eyes and asked politely: "Huang Yushi, is this the intention of the court or the Yushitai, or is it your intention?"

Huang Yushi was blocked and speechless. He glared angrily at Meng Ju for a while, turned around and walked away with his sleeves fluttered. He was about to leave the door before he uttered a sentence: "Master Zhongcheng will arrive the day after tomorrow, so be prepared!  "

The envoy at the front station was angered by Meng Zhendu, and the officials of the mausoleum department were very worried.  Experienced officials all know that although the role of the imperial envoy is not high in rank, it is an important role that requires flattery.  If the envoy is in a good mood, he can give the receiving officials a lot of useful advice, such as reception etiquette, the imperial envoy's temper, hobbies and taboos, etc. The receiving officials can avoid making many mistakes, but if they offend the envoy in front of him -  -For example, if it's like Governor Meng, that would be troublesome.  The envoy just walked away, saying that the imperial envoy would arrive the day after tomorrow, and did not specify when. Do you want everyone to stand at the provincial border and wait all day?

At that moment, Ouyang Hui hurriedly went to find Meng Ju, and he said: "Master Governor, it has always been difficult to serve Beijing officials. Judging from his humble position, Huang Yushi probably wants to make money. Based on his humble opinion, it is better to Feng Dian Bing  Please send him away to save him from making things difficult for us."

Meng Ju thought about it again and again, but still didn¡¯t agree.  It's not that he is stingy with money, it's just that he always feels that there is something fishy about Huang Ran.  Regarding local officials, Luojing officials have a natural sense of superiority, not to mention the Yushitai officials. It is not surprising that they do not take themselves seriously.  But it stands to reason that Wei Ping chose Dongping as his first stop when he came to Northern Xinjiang. The taste of goodwill was already very strong, but this Huang Yushi jumped out to make things difficult for him. Meng Ju always felt that something was wrong.  And seeing the hatred for him in Huang Ran's eyes, this was beyond the scope of ordinary Beijing officials making things difficult for local officials.  Meng Ju intuitively realized that this was not a problem that money could solve.

"Don't pay attention to him. I saw a lot of this kind of petty official in Luojing. The devil is difficult to deal with, but the King of Hell is easy to meet. Since the imperial envoy's convoy can arrive the day after tomorrow, it must not be far from us now. We might as well follow it.  Just go all the way down the road to look for the Imperial Envoy's convoy, it's probably only a hundred miles away. As long as we can see Wei Zhongcheng, that guy won't have a chance to stir up trouble."

Ouyang Hui looked very surprised: "Going out of the provincial border to meet the imperial envoy? Sir, this seems to be inappropriate, right?"

Meng Ju said it was okay.  He said that since welcoming the imperial envoy at the border of the province is to show sincerity and respect, then it would naturally appear more respectful to greet him when he went out of the province.  Although he rashly ran into the fields of Shuozhou to meet the imperial envoy, which might make Sun Xiang, the governor of Shuozhou, a little unhappy, but it obviously didn't make Sun Xiang hold a grudge against him, right?

As soon as he said it was done, Meng Ju led a dozen guards and accompanying officials such as Ouyang Hui to set off in the morning light.  On the same day, we left the provincial border and entered the fields of Shuozhou.  At sunset, the tired group of people rushed to Nanhuai City in Shuozhou.  Meng Ju asked someone casually and found out immediately that the imperial envoy from the imperial court happened to be passing through here and happened to stay in the Nanhuaicheng County Yali.

Meng Ju went into the city, found an inn, washed up, and put on his official robe.  It looked like it wasn't completely dark yet.  He led his subordinates straight to the gate of the county government office. Several officers and soldiers with Luojing accent stopped them: "What are you doing? The imperial envoy is here, no harassment!"

"I would like to inform you that Meng Ju, the governor of Dongping Lingwei, has come to pay homage to the imperial envoy Wei Zhongcheng."

Hearing Meng Ju report his official name, several officers and soldiers were stunned.  An officer wearing fish scale armor and carrying a wild goose feather sword stood up, looked Meng Ju up and down, and asked, "Master Meng, Governor of Dongping Town?"

"I don't dare, it's me. May I ask your surname?"

A cold light flashed in the officer's eyes, and he cupped his hands: "A certain family can't afford it."The governor is called your lord.  A certain family is just the leader of the Jinwu Guard's second horizontal squad, Tiexin.  Governor Meng, have you brought the official documents to sue?  "

"Master Guard, it's a pleasure to meet you. Because I came in a hurry, I didn't bring my official certificate. I only brought the badge of Dongling Guard. Is it okay?"

After checking Meng Ju¡¯s waistband, the guard asked: ¡°Governor Meng, you should have met me in Dongping, right? Why did you come to Shuozhou?¡±

Meng Ju smiled and did not answer.  But that smile was understood by the guard leader: "This is not something that a little guard like you should ask."

After being pushed back by Meng Ju, the guard leader's face showed no emotion or anger. He said calmly: "Governor Meng is the minister of Northern Xinjiang. You are here to pay homage to the imperial envoy. I don't dare not inform you. But whether the imperial envoy is willing to see you or not?  But I can't help a certain family. If I have offended anything, please forgive me, the town governor."

This was originally just an ordinary conversation, but the young military attache Yuan Tingyue said calmly, with an aura that was neither humble nor arrogant. Meng Ju couldn't help but look at him twice, and said with cupped hands: "Thank you, Your Excellency."

"I don't dare. Please wait a moment, Governor Meng and all your lords."

The officer turned around and walked into the county government office. Meng Ju and his party were waiting outside the gate of the county government office.  Taking advantage of this moment, Ouyang Hui whispered to Meng Ju: "Governor, this guard leader is such an arrogant person! Governor, you should have given him a red envelope just now."

"Ouyang, don't talk nonsense. This guard leader is not an ordinary person."

In fact, Meng Ju originally planned to give the officer a red envelope when he asked for an audience, but judging from the officer's conversation, which was majestic and majestic, with an aura of power without anger, Meng Ju really didn't dare to blaspheme him by giving him money casually.  .  He became the leader of the Luojing Jinwu Guard at such a young age. He must be a child of some Luojing family, right?

Ouyang Hui shook his head and sighed: "Oh, there are hidden dragons and crouching tigers in Luojing, the water there is too deep!"

After waiting for half an hour, the sky was completely dark, and Meng Ju's legs were sore and numb from standing. Only then did someone come out of the county government office, but it was not the guard leader, but a man in a green robe who shot flying birds.  Buzi's censor.  He shouted: "Who is Governor Meng?"

    "The official is waiting here."

The censor looked at Meng Ju several times, with a hint of surprise in his eyes.  He said, "The imperial envoy wants to see you. Come in with me."

Meng Ju turned around and said a few words to Ouyang Hui and others, then followed the censor in.  Because he had waited too long, Meng Ju had hidden resentment in his heart and was no longer in the mood to strike up a conversation, so he went in without saying a word.  The censor looked at him sternly, but became interested in him. He asked him a few questions and asked him why he ran to Shuozhou instead of waiting in Dongping.  Meng Ju said calmly: "Master Zhongcheng has come from afar, and the lower official who is from afar to greet you is also sincere and respectful."

The censor smiled and said: "Hey, Governor Meng's statement is really interesting. In all these years of being a low-ranking official, I have never seen anyone come out to pick up an imperial envoy. Governor Meng, your behavior is really unexpected."

Meng Ju smiled, but thought in his heart, he killed Changsun Shou, and then took the initiative to go to Wuchuan and kill a large number of border troops. In the eyes of the court, he was probably a very unconventional person, right?  Giving such an impression to the court is not a disaster or a blessing for me.

The civil servant led Meng Ju into the lobby of the county government office. Along the way, Jinwu Guards soldiers patrolling everywhere could be seen.  In the county government hall, two Jinwu Guard military attach¨¦s stopped Meng Ju. They asked, "Has Governor Meng brought weapons? If so, please leave them to us for safekeeping temporarily."

Meng Ju shook his head. The two military officers looked Meng Ju up and down, but did not search him. They nodded and let Meng Ju pass. Then the censor led Meng Ju into the back hall of the county government office, where three people were already sitting.  Personal.

Sitting among them is an old man in casual clothes wearing a green robe. He has a slender appearance, dignified eyebrows, and a few long flowing beards that look like a Taoist fairy.  His back was straight, his body was as still as a bell, and he was very imposing.  The old man had an expressionless face and looked at Meng Ju with squinted eyes. His eyes were cold. When he looked at him, Meng Ju felt as if he was being clamped by iron pliers, which was very uncomfortable.

There are two people sitting on both sides of the old man. One of them is Nan Muhe, the counselor of Dongling Guard, and the other is a fat middle-aged man with a round face.

The three of them were all in casual clothes, not wearing official robes, but they all looked serious.  Seeing the seating arrangement of Nan Muhe and the other two people, Meng Ju immediately knew that the person in the middle must be Wei Zhongcheng, who was known as "the god of war".

Meng Ju prostrated himself: "Meng Ju, who is of humble rank, pays homage to the imperial envoy, Mr. Wei. I pays homage to the deputy envoys, Mr. Gao and Mr. Nanmu."

An old voice shouted from above: "Meng Ju, the governor of Dongping Tongzhi?"

    "Yes, I'm here!"

    "You should get up first."

Meng Ju stood up and stood in awe with his hands down.

??None of the three imperial envoys spoke. Instead, they exchanged glances very covertly, as if to see if the other two wanted to speak first. The result was an awkward silence. Meng Ju could tell immediately from this small gesture.  , there was a lack of tacit understanding among the three imperial envoys.

"Could it be said that they did not have a unified opinion before setting off?

In the end, it was the middle-aged fat man next to Wei Ping who spoke up first. He asked coldly: "Meng Ju, if you can't just stay in Dongping, why did you come to Shuozhou?"

This guy asked knowingly, and Meng Ju had no choice but to answer knowingly: "The lower official is happy to hear that the imperial envoy will arrive in Dongping the day after tomorrow. I am afraid that the upper government will not provide good hospitality, so I came here specially to serve the imperial envoy."

Wei Ping frowned slightly, stroking his long beard and remained silent.  Although Meng Ju's behavior was deviant, if we really want to investigate it, we can't say which law he violated - is it a crime to welcome guests from a distance?  This Governor Meng is really a troublesome person. He never follows the rules when doing things and likes to go off the mark.

The fat man shouted with a straight face: "That's ridiculous! Imperial officials have their own jurisdiction. Meng Ju, you are an official of Dongling Guards in Dongping, you should just stay in Dongping and wait for the imperial envoys to arrive! If all the officials who receive the imperial envoys are like  If you leave the jurisdiction and run around like this, then the court will be in chaos!"

Meng Ju glanced at the fat man and bowed slightly: "My lord, you have taught me well. If all the officials run around like humble officials, it will really be chaos."

Although Meng Ju seemed to be very submissive, the three imperial envoys were all smart people, and no one could hear the unruly tone in his words.  The fat man had a sullen look on his face, and when he was about to say something else, Nan Muhe spoke first: "Meng Ju, don't make any mistakes! This is Mr. Gao, the Minister of War, and your direct superior. Why don't you apologize immediately?"

Meng Ju bowed and apologized: "I don't know if you are a tall man, but if you hold a low position, you will be offended. If you hold a low position, you are a rough and martial artist, and do not know etiquette. Don't take offense to me, a tall man."

Gao Bin¡¯s face was gloomy: ¡°Meng Ju, I heard that you are very dissatisfied with the imperial envoy sent to Dongping to investigate?¡±

"I don't dare to humble myself in my position. I wonder why the great master said this?"

"Hmph, you are still quibbling! Huang Yushi has already reported it when he came back, saying that you are resentful towards the imperial court, uttering arrogant and resentful words, insulting our imperial envoy many times, and showing great contempt - Meng Ju, you dare to despise the imperial envoy  , you are so brave!"

Huang Ran, you bastard, fortunately I had expected that you would spit out shit when you came back!  Meng Ju was secretly angry in his heart, but his face remained calm: "What Huang Yushi said is not true. If I had the slightest disrespect towards the imperial envoy, how could I have traveled hundreds of miles to pick up the imperial envoy? I am requesting you.  Confront Yushi Huang!"

Gao Bin was speechless for a moment, but fortunately he thought quickly and immediately sneered: "Now in front of Master Zhongcheng, of course you deny it. Huang Yushi and you are strangers and have no grievances. He  Why do I fabricate false accusations against you?"

"It is true that Huang Yushi and Bei Zhi have never met each other, but Bei Zhi is afraid that he was instigated by someone with an evil intention to deliberately embarrass me!"

With that said, Meng Ju glanced at Gao Bin provocatively, and everyone knew who the "careful person" Meng Ju was referring to.  Gao Bin was so angry that his face was livid, and he turned around but refused to say any more: Firstly, he was indeed guilty, and secondly, if he was in trouble with Meng Ju again, wouldn't it mean that he was indeed the "person with a bad intention"?

Wei Ping squinted his eyes and looked at Meng Ju. At first glance, he felt that the tall and tall Governor Meng had an unusual temperament. From his exchange with Gao Bin, it could be seen that he was not one of those  An ordinary official who follows the rules, this man is very difficult to control.  Wei Ping is an old-school official who abides by the rules. He has an instinctive hatred for young officials who do not follow the right path.

He said slowly: "Governor Meng came all the way to greet us. He is also sincere. There is no need for Minister Gao to say more. Governor Meng, what do you mean by coming to see us?"

Meng Ju lowered his head and said respectfully: "I am very happy to hear that the imperial court has sent Master Zhongcheng, Minister Gao, Counselor Nanmu and others to Northern Xinjiang to investigate the conflict between the humble post and the border army. Master Zhongcheng and the two  Your Excellency is impartial and strict, and you will be able to give justice to your Majesty. However, I am also worried that some shameless villains are slandering me and trying to deceive the Imperial Envoy. Therefore, I came here specifically to be able to face all the Imperial Envoys in person.  My lord, I will tell my grievances and clarify right and wrong. I hope that the imperial court and all the imperial envoys can clear my grievances and uphold justice."

"Well. Governor Meng wants to complain to the court. This feeling is nothing but blameless. I can understand it. But we are still on the road at this time. According to the rules, the imperial edict cannot be promulgated until it reaches the ground. Governor Meng, since you are here  , just follow us to Dongping."

Gao Bin blew his beard and glared, Meng Ju was not afraid of him, but Wei Ping spoke so calmly and slowly, Meng Ju immediatelyI feel the weight.

When the old gentleman spoke, a kind of overwhelming pressure suddenly hit his face, almost making Meng Ju unable to breathe.  This is an important minister of the imperial court who has been in charge of the Yushitai for nearly ten years. He does not need to be stern. Just put it in such a light way, he naturally has an awe-inspiring aura.
