    Chapter 4: Altitude 6,500 meters

The school's bbs was making a lot of noise, but at this time, Fang Yu was already sitting in the waiting room of the train station.

Looking at the flow of people in front of him, Fang Yu was still greatly surprised.  He had long expected that the train would be very crowded on May 1st, so he deliberately took the train two or three days in advance.  But even so, there were still a lot of people coming and going, almost filling the waiting room.  Fortunately, there was still a seat when he got on the bus, otherwise it would have been too much for him to stand all the way.

When the train was about to arrive at the station, Fang Yu called his brother.  He didn't know how many naps he slept along the way. When he woke up, he read those two books. When he was tired, he went back to sleep, and so on.  Feeling that the train had begun to slow down, and the scenery outside the window slowly moved behind him, Fang Yu stretched out comfortably and prepared to get off.

When you walk into the station, it can be said that there is a huge crowd.  Fang Yu looked around and heard a call coming from the front: "Xiao Yu!"

Looking following the sound, I saw the figure of my brother Fang Ming, waving his arms towards me.

"Brother, there are so many people. It feels like there are people all around." Fang Yu said as he walked over with his luggage.

Fang Ming patted his back, took his backpack and said, "Come on, come back with me and take a rest."

After saying "Okay", Fang Yu followed his brother out of the hall. He saw his brother Fang Ming's off-road jeep from a distance. Fang Ming threw his bag into the back seat and opened the cab door for Fang Yu.  Let him sit in it.

Sitting in the car, Fang Yu looked sideways at the scenery outside, feeling that Beijing had not changed much. Of course, he had only been away for a few months.

He had already slept enough on the train, and now he felt very energetic and not sleepy at all.

When he got home, Fang Ming said to him: "You go inside and rest first. I will do some restorative training with me tomorrow. I will do a health test on you in the morning and a physical and climbing test on you in the afternoon."

    Fang Yu agreed.

Fang Ming pinched his muscles and said, "You didn't have to do exercises at school, right?"

"Don't worry, brother, I have been exercising."

"That's good, don't worry, as long as you perform to your usual level, I have confidence in you. Okay, you can take a rest. I'll go out to buy some food. Is there anything else?" Fang Ming asked.

"There's nothing wrong, it's just that I'm not sleepy and can't sleep. I've been sleeping all the way in the car."

"There is a computer in that room. You can go to the Internet cafe." After saying that, Fang Ming put on his shoes and went out.

Fang Ming is now twenty-four or five years old. Because he loves mountain climbing, he has never found a stable girlfriend.  In his words, he can't give others a sense of security yet, so he won't consider it for the time being.  Although his parents abroad kept urging him, he still went his own way.

    ¡ù¡¡¡ù¡¡¡ù

Early the next morning, Fang Yu got up.  After washing up, Fang Ming took him outside for a jog to warm up.

When the two of them ran to the mountaineering team training center, Fang Yu already felt hot and sweating all over.  Fang Ming asked him to do some technical training and get familiar with the equipment.  Then go to the rock wall for climbing training, because this time you are climbing the 7,000-meter-level Nyain Thanh Central Peak, and some rock walls have angles above 65 degrees, so climbing training is very necessary.

In the afternoon, the two took a car to the Baihe Natural Rock Wall in Beijing.  Let Fang Yu practice descending and ascending with equipment.

By the time the two returned home in the evening, Fang Yu was already very tired.  After eating and taking a shower, Fang Yu fell into a deep sleep as soon as he got on the bed.

The test on the second day went smoothly. Team doctor Chen Wen and coach Lao Niu tested his health and physical fitness respectively. The results of the health test will not come out until the next day. Fang Yu passed the physical test without any suspense.

When the tough coach Lao Niu told Fang Yu that he had passed all the tests and could participate in mountain climbing, he really wanted to hug Lao Niu and kiss him fiercely. He scared Lao Niu so much that he wiped away the cold sweat after running away.

Fang Ming was very confident in his younger brother and had long expected that he would pass, so he prepared a set of mountaineering equipment for him early. In the afternoon, they purchased some temporary items and waited to board the plane to Lhasa in the evening.  .

After calming down the excitement in his heart, Fang Yu couldn't help imagining what kind of magnificent scenery he would see in front of him when he reached the top.

    ¡ù¡ù¡¡¡ù

Lying in the sleeping bag, Fang Yu couldn't fall asleep for a long time.  He is now in C2 (camp two, Camp Two). Although he is very tired from climbing during the day, he feels excited when he thinks that he is now at an altitude of 6,500 meters.  Listening to the howling wind outside the tent, Fang Yu unconsciously recalled the experiences of the past few days.

The group of them arrived at Lhasa Airport on May 1st, but since it was still early in the morning, Fang Yu could not help but feel a little regretful as he did not see the pure sky he was expecting.

After all, the sky in Lhasa can be said to be the purest in China.  From many travel articles, Fang Yu read the authors' praise for this sky, and he always yearned for it in his heart.

Because time was tight, they didn¡¯t rest long after they arrived, and everyone got on the minibus heading to BC (base camp).  After a bumpy afternoon, we finally arrived at BC and met up with the early stage personnel who were doing reconnaissance and pathfinding work first.

Since it was his first time on the plateau, Fang Yu inevitably suffered from altitude sickness such as headaches, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Coupled with the bumps along the way, he almost fainted when he arrived at BC. His face was really pale at that time.  Difference.  Fortunately, he was strong and gradually adapted to it after a day. Therefore, the coach Lao Niu also praised him a few words, saying that for a novice, he was already very rare.

After adaptive training, everyone came to abc (advanced base camp) again. The several stations between bc and the top of the mountain this time were abc-5300 meters; c1 (camp one, camp one)-5900  meters; c2-6500 meters; c3 (camp three, Camp Three)-6900 meters.

Climbing and training along the way, we finally reached the current c2.  Fang Yu also learned a lot from his brother and other team members.  Among them, the one who got along well with him was a team member named Haizi, who was a tall and strong man.  There are two others who are doing well, one is called Tiezi, who is dark and strong; the other one looks very quiet and is called Liu Dong. Because he wears glasses, everyone usually calls him Glasses.

Fang Yu turned around and felt a burning pain in his hand. He couldn't help but think of what happened this afternoon. Now that he thought about it, it was still a bit of a fluke. His life was almost over.

After arriving at c2 in the afternoon, Fang Yu still lived in the same tent with Fang Ming and Haizi as he did at c1.  After tidying up the tent and packing his belongings, Fang Yu found many people walking around with their mobile phones outside.  After asking, Fang Yu knew that they were looking for a signal.  But most people fail to do so, and only a few are able to find it.  Everyone is talking about it. Some people say that the signal of mobile phone numbers opened from Lhasa is better here, and some people say that this is also related to the performance of the mobile phone. There are really different opinions.  Out of curiosity, Fang Yu took out his mobile phone and tried it, but the result was still quite depressing, as there was no signal at all.

When we arrived at c2, due to the inconvenience of transportation, food was relatively tight. Each person was only given one box of instant noodles.  Fang Ming and the others had run out of the non-staple food they had brought with them, so everyone made do with dinner.

After dinner, Fang Yu looked up and saw the sky full of sunset, reflecting the setting sun, so beautiful.  And the velvet-like pure sky has fascinated him along the way.

Seeing such beautiful scenery, he naturally took out his camera and looked around for angles to take pictures.

This time he came to climb the mountain, and he specially brought a digital camera.  When Li Fei said he couldn't come, he asked him to take pictures of all the beautiful scenery along the way and bring them back to show him.  Along the way, Fang Yu has also captured a lot of beautiful scenery and is ready to go back and share it with his friends.

After reaching the edge of the cliff, Fang Yu finally found a good angle.  Just as he stood up after taking the photo, a sudden gust of wind blew by. Fang Yu lost his footing and was slippery due to the layer of ice there. He momentarily lost his center of gravity and fell towards the cliff.

With the sound of wind whistling in his ears, Fang Yu grabbed a piece of ice in a hurry, but he didn't know that the ice couldn't bear his weight at all.  Just hearing a crisp sound, Fang Yu continued to fall downwards.  During this pause, Fang Yu regained a little consciousness. He grabbed another piece of ice with his other hand, and this time his body's fall finally stopped.

Although there were gloves on his hands, there was still a stinging pain like needles coming from his hands, and Fang Yu gritted his teeth to hold it back.  His consciousness gradually became clearer from the chaos just now, and he knew that whether he could survive or not depended on it, so he clung to the ice even more tightly.

Faintly, he seemed to hear shouts coming from the top of the cliff in the distance.

Thinking about the danger of his whereabouts just now, Fang Yu broke into a cold sweat and blamed himself for not being so reckless.  Thinking of the beautiful image that flashed through his mind when he fell down, he whispered Su Xiao's name softly, but felt warm in his heart, and strengthened his courage.

At this time, his hands were almost numb. Fang Yu shouted twice, but he seemed to hear crisp sounds around him and didn't dare to shout anymore.

Suddenly, when he raised his head, Fang Yu saw what seemed to be a black object in the ice and snow above his head. He couldn't see its specific shape because only a small corner was exposed.  Somehow, Fang Yu developed a strong curiosity at this time when his life was at stake.

Good ideaQixin kills the cat, it seems that is really the case.

Fang Yu felt that his shoulders were numb, and he didn't know how long he could hold on.  Thinking that he would inevitably die if he continued like this, he screamed towards the top of the cliff desperately.

His voice seemed to be heard on the cliff, and Fang Yu vaguely seemed to hear a burst of cheers on the cliff.  After what seemed like a century, intermittent metal knocking sounds were heard from above. Fang Yu looked up and saw a metal ladder slowly descending, with a rope attached to the top.

Fang Yu knew that they were going to use this to pull him up. When the metal ladder landed on top of his head, he would stretch out a hand to grab it.  Unexpectedly, because he had been holding on to the ice for a long time, the blood flowing out of his hands had frozen.  The movement made me almost faint from the pain.  Trying to hold back the pain, Fang Yu finally grabbed the metal ladder.  He now knows that this is his last life-saving straw.  At this time, although the surrounding temperature was very low, the pain and tension made his face covered with sweat.

The people on the cliff felt the rope tighten and knew that Fang Yu might have caught it, so they quickly grabbed it firmly.

Fang Yu awkwardly moved his body to the metal ladder, and found a rope from his body to connect the buckle around his waist to the metal ladder.  Thinking of the black object, he looked up.  That couldn't be human or animal feces, Fang Yu thought.  I remember reading an article that the expedition team members in Antarctica made such a joke.  It would be embarrassing if you went through all the trouble to dig it out only to find it was just a piece of feces.  After careful examination, Fang Yu finally ruled out the possibility that it was feces, because the exposed part was sharp and angular, and absolutely no animal (including humans) could excrete such regular feces (sweat).  I reluctantly took out the Swiss Army knife and ice pick from my pocket, knocked and smashed it, and after struggling for a while, I finally took it out and saw that it was a black square box that seemed to be made of metal.  Without having time to think about what it was, Fang Yu put it into his big pocket and shouted towards the top of the cliff.

The metal ladder immediately climbed upwards.  Now Fang Yu felt dizzy. It was only at this critical moment that he was able to unleash his potential and persevere.  Now that he had just escaped from danger, he felt extremely sore all over his body, especially his hands, which only felt bursts of pain.

Time is magnifying exponentially, constantly entangled with Fang Yu.  Fortunately, he finally reached the top of the cliff, and a group of people came over and pulled him up.

Fang Yu faced his brother's anxious face, and heard him scold him: "Xiao Yu, you are too careless." Having realized his rashness, Fang Yu lowered his head in shame.

Haizi on the side persuaded him: "Okay, A Ming, Xiaoyu is back well. There is no danger this time. This kid is really lucky."

Lao Niu came over and comforted him for a few words. It seemed that he was quite frightened, and his face was still a little pale.  After speaking, Lao Niu asked Fang Ming and Haizi to take Fang Yu back to have a rest.  Turning around, he repeated a few words to everyone, asking everyone to be safe.  Now the wind has become much stronger, and it seems that the weather has changed. Lao Niu asked a few old team members to have a meeting in his tent, while the others went back to their tents to repair.

As soon as Fang Yu returned to the tent, Team Doctor Chen rushed over and treated the wounds on his hands and face. Seeing that there were no major problems elsewhere, he let him rest first.

It was only then that Fang Yu discovered that the digital camera was still hanging around his neck. He quickly took it off and debugged it. No problems were found, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.  He couldn't help but be glad that he was used to hanging the camera around his neck. Otherwise, the camera would have fallen off the cliff if he hadn't taken the situation just now.  If that happened, not only would the camera be gone, but all my hard work these days would also be in vain.

Seeing that the wind was getting stronger and stronger, everyone took the time to strengthen the tents.  After the meeting between the captain and the veteran team members, they informed everyone that they had just received the weather forecast from the Central Meteorological Observatory and that there might be a snowstorm in the next two days.  Looking at the weather outside now, the situation is not optimistic.  Now everyone is waiting in the tent. If it doesn't work, everyone will return to abc when the wind subsides.

Hearing the news, everyone was in a state of anxiety and had a little bit of expectation in their hearts, hoping that the weather would get better tomorrow and that we could climb to the summit as planned.  If everyone had to give up climbing to the top because of the snowstorm, they would feel a little regretful.  But if there is a snowstorm, we have no choice but to go back to abc. After all, no one would joke with their own lives.

    ¡ù¡¡¡ù¡¡¡ù

Fang Yu thought of this, turned over again, stuck his head out of the sleeping bag, and heard the huge sound of wind and snow outside. The blizzard was really coming.

At this time, I heard Haizi's voice in my ear: "Go to sleep, Xiaoyu, looking at the current situation, I have to play ABC tomorrow." It turned out that he was not asleep either.

Feeling the tent swaying in the wind, Fang Yu couldn't help but feel a little nervous and asked, "Brother Haizi, do you think the tent can withstand it?"

?"Don't think too much. The tent will be fine. It won't matter if the wind is stronger than this."

Hearing what Haizi said, Fang Yu calmed down a little, got into the sleeping bag again, and fell asleep unconsciously.

When I woke up the next morning, I found that my brother and Haizi were no longer in the tent.  Listening to the wind, I knew the storm hadn't stopped yet.

After washing, Fang Yu remembered the black square box he got back yesterday, so he took it out of his pocket and was about to take a closer look at what it was.  At this time, Haizi poked his head in and saw that Fang Yu had already gotten up, so he said to him: "Xiaoyu, come to the public tent, everyone is having a meeting."

Fang Yu quickly agreed, put the box into his backpack, got dressed and followed Haizi out.

Entering the public tent, Fang Yu saw everyone sitting around and talking to each other.  And Lao Niu was sitting in the middle, holding a walkie-talkie in his hand and talking loudly. It seemed that the signal was not good.

When everyone saw Fang Yu coming in, they all came to express their condolences to him, which made him very touched.

After a while, Lao Niu put down the walkie-talkie and signaled everyone to be quiet.  For a moment, the tent became quiet.  Lao Niu said: "Everyone has seen the weather outside. The weather forecast said that this kind of snowstorm may continue for a while, but we don't have much food anymore, so the people from abc and I decided to wait until the wind calmed down a little.  At some point, we will retreat to abc and not climb to the top this time.¡±

When we heard that we couldn¡¯t climb to the top, everyone was a little disappointed, and the tent was silent for a while.  Although everyone is a little reluctant, everyone knows that this is the best choice after all, otherwise if they keep consuming it, everyone's lives will be in danger.

"Okay, that's all. Do you have anything to say?" After a pause, Lao Niu saw that no one was speaking, so he continued: "Since everyone has no objections, let's go back to our respective tents to tidy up, where we are.  Stand by, as soon as the wind picks up, everyone will retreat. Be sure to pay attention to safety."

Finally, Lao Niu glanced at Fang Yu and said, "Fang Yu, how is your physical condition now? Is there no problem?"

    "No problem." Fang Yu said.

"That's good. Let's go back and have a good rest later and let Team Doctor Chen take a look at you again." Lao Niu said, "Then we are dismissed now. Let's go back to our respective tents."

Until night, the snowstorm was still raging.  Because no one was doing strenuous activities, and the food reserves were not much, everyone ate less for lunch and dinner.

On the day of May 8, the fierce wind and snow gradually went away.
