Chapter 416: Tempering the Troops (21)

At noon, the officers and soldiers of the Chinese and Indian troops had lunch and went into caves or tunnels to enjoy the cool air.  [The officers and soldiers who were observing the movements of the Japanese troops on the position were divided into several groups and took turns monitoring the movements of the Japanese troops on the position.

It was around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, the sun was shining brightly, and there was not a single cloud in the blue sky.  The fiery sun was scorching the earth, and even the soil on the ground was smoking.

"Compared to the Japanese troops who remained calm under the scorching sun above their heads, the guards officers and soldiers holding parasols on the position were obviously inferior.

Stationed on a defensive position named Ningyuan Village about 500 meters away from the mountains on the right side of Shentou Village, more than ten officers and soldiers from the 3rd Regiment of the 1st Division of the Guard Army gathered together listlessly to chat.

"Squad leader, I heard that after our troops entered Shentou Village, the Japanese army only continued to attack Shentou Ridge and had not attacked other villages, right?" A soldier held a piece of green grass in his mouth with a dejected look on his face.  , asked the monitor.  ¡¾

The squad leader said helplessly: "Yes, as long as Shentou Village is captured, the Japanese army will be able to achieve their combat objectives. Let's attack other villages. Even if they are captured, they will have to walk around the mountain road for several days before they can rescue the 19th Regiment."  Moreover, when they come out of the mountain road, they may face harassment and obstruction by our army. Therefore, the Japanese army will not abandon the near and far away to attack other villages."

"It's such a good gun. It's a pity that we can't use it to kill a few more Japanese soldiers." A soldier said in disappointment as he fiddled with the m1903 rifle in his hand.

"Xiaosi, your marksmanship is too bad, so don't waste bullets," another soldier joked.

Xiao Si¡¯s face darkened, and just as he was about to retort, an extremely loud voice suddenly rang out.

    "Alert and ready for combat"

"The Japanese troops are coming towards our position, the Japanese troops are coming towards our position"

A reconnaissance soldier from the 3rd regiment ran into the position. While shouting that the Japanese army was about to attack, he continued to advance and ran to the rear of the position to report.

Immediately afterwards, there was loud gunfire in Ningyuanzhuang, which was also mixed with a little gunfire.

Everyone's spirits were greatly boosted, and they jumped up in a hurry and entered their respective defensive positions.

The squad leader held his gun and stared nervously ahead.  A few minutes later, hundreds of Japanese soldiers came into his sight.

"The Japanese army is launching a full-scale attack this time. Everyone, cheer up and shoot hard," the squad leader shouted.

    "Bang bang bang"

When the Japanese army entered more than 100 meters, the officers and soldiers of the 1st Battalion and 1st Company of the 3rd Regiment stationed at this position rushed over and entered the position to shoot at the Japanese army.

Since the guard officers and soldiers were equipped with m1903 rifles and grenades, their firepower advantage was relatively obvious. Therefore, this wave of attacking Japanese troops was easily repelled by the 1st Company.

Soon, the Japanese offensive encountered strong resistance everywhere and was defeated.  After some communication, the Japanese command found that the guard troops stationed in several small villages such as Ningyuan Village were relatively weak, so they redeployed and mobilized squadrons one after another to attack Ningyuan Village and other villages in turn.

At about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, it suddenly started raining heavily.  The Japanese commander was overjoyed and ordered the Japanese officers and soldiers to launch an even more crazy attack in the rain.

Around 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the rain became heavier and heavier.

The Japanese army continued to launch attacks, and the fighting was extremely fierce. Each company of the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Regiment stationed in Ningyuan Village went into battle one after another, repelling the Japanese attacks again and again.

However, the guns and ammunition of each company in the 1st Battalion are almost exhausted.  However, the troops who came over the mountains to the right of Shentou Village to support them were unable to arrive due to heavy rain.

The battle lasted until around 5 p.m., and the Japanese army relied on the human sea tactic to capture Ningyuan Village at the cost of more than 3,000 casualties.  Another nearby village was also captured by the Japanese army at the same time.

Most of the guards officers and soldiers stationed in these two villages were killed in hand-to-hand combat, and only a small part retreated into the mountains.
