Mengling Slope is located at the foot of Songshan Mountain on the east side of Longling City. Its strategic location is very important. The Japanese army stationed a brigade on Mengling Slope and built solid fortifications.  Piaotian Literature Network ()

The location of the cliff that Dong Limao pointed to is on the north side of Mengling Slope. The steep cliff is like a knife and axe, with a height of about one hundred meters.

Dong Limao took the two platoons of soldiers given to him by Hu Jiaji and walked around from the forest to the cliff of Mengling Slope, hiding in the bushes and looking up.

In the telescope, Dong Limao could not see any defenders above. Probably the Japanese army thought that no one would be able to climb up from this position and did not arrange anyone on the cliff.

In the gaps between the cliffs, there are several trees as thick as arms.

"Who dares to take the lead with me?" Dong Limao asked the dozens of soldiers around him.

No one dared to look at Dong Limao. After waiting for a few seconds, a thin little man stepped forward from behind and said, "Company Commander Dong, I dare."

"You" Dong Limao looked this little man up and down and saw that he was about 15 years old, with bright eyes on his dark face: "What's your name?"

¡°Reporting to Company Commander Dong, I don¡¯t have a name, and the brothers all call me Little Man.¡±

Dong Limao had a smile on his face: "This nickname is quite straightforward."

The little man laughed happily and replied: "Don't look at my small size, I have killed five Japanese."

"Well done!" Dong Limao patted the little man on the shoulder and said, "I'm in front, you in the back, follow me up and don't look down."

"I know. Company commander." The little man nodded and replied.

Dong Limao said to the others with a face: "After the little man and I go up, you can follow the rope we climb up. If anyone dares to retreat! Don't blame me for being rude!"

The soldiers in both platoons all know what kind of person Dong Jiacheng is, and no one dares to disobey his orders.

Dong Limao took the hemp rope carried by a soldier, slung it on his shoulder, and underestimated: "It's time, why haven't the artillery fire started yet?" As soon as he finished speaking, an explosion suddenly occurred on the cliff.

"Little man, follow me!" Dong Limao rushed out of the bush and ran to the bottom of the cliff.

The little man followed Dong Limao to the bottom of the cliff.

Dong Limao picked up the end of the hemp rope with the iron hook and threw it twice, towards the tree closest to the bottom of the cliff. After the iron hook was wrapped around the trunk two or three times, it was firmly tied to the trunk.

"Company Commander Dong, let me go up first!" The little man snatched the hemp rope from Dong Limao's hand and climbed up quickly before Dong Limao could react.

"This kid is smart! We can't let him lose his life." Dong Limao muttered and grabbed the rope to climb up.

The little man waited for Dong Limao to climb up, quickly untied the rope on the tree trunk, and accurately threw it upward. The hemp rope with the iron hook was tied up to a tree trunk.

Both of them moved very quickly. After throwing the rope four or five times, they climbed to the cliff. Dong Limao tied the hemp rope on his shoulders into a tight knot, threw it down the cliff, and then crouched with the little man under the cover of the bushes.  Dozens of people came up.

At this moment, on the slope of Mengling, artillery shells roared and fell on the enemy's bunkers and positions. They were four or five hundred meters away from the cliff where Dong Limao and the others were sheltering. Dong Limao looked through his telescope and found that those shells could not blow up the bunkers at all.  There were no Japs to be seen on the battlefield, and they all hid in the bunker.

The little man asked: "Company Commander Dong, can I join your special agent company?"

Dong Limao put down the telescope and asked with a wry smile: "Why do you want to join the secret service company?"

¡°I want to follow you to kill the Japanese, become a hero, and be promoted in the future.¡± The little man replied with a naive smile.

"Who told you that being a hero can lead to promotion?" Dong Limao asked, dumbfounded.

"That's what the brothers said. If it weren't for the chance of becoming an official in the future, they wouldn't want to come here to die." The little man turned to the people who were climbing up one by one at the bottom of the cliff and said.

Dong Limao was stunned: "You mean, they were not selected, but voluntary?"

"It is said that if you follow Company Commander Dong to fight the Japanese, you will become an official and make a fortune in the future." The little man said seriously.

Dong Limao was speechless. He couldn't break the good wishes in the hearts of these soldiers.

Sixty or seventy people at the foot of the cliff came up one after another.

The bombardment was about to end. After Dong Limao waited for the last soldier to come up, he untied the hemp rope and threw it at the foot of the cliff. He said to the soldiers: "We have no way out now. Either we die under the guns of the little Japs, or we go  Kill these *** little devils, let the big troops rush up, and live to be heroes. I believe that you all want to be heroes, well, I will give you this opportunity now, follow?I, the little devil, rush into the fortress, try to get as close as possible to the fortress, and throw grenades inside.  Every group of five people responsible for killing a fortress for me can become a hero. Do you understand?  "

Although the cannons were rumbling, everyone heard Dong Limao's words and responded in unison: "I understand, sir!"

Dong Limao looked at the little man and said, "Follow me. Don't rush in front of me without my order."

The little man raised his head and replied: "Yes, company commander."

Soon, the grouping was completed and the sound of artillery stopped. Dong Limao asked the rocket launcher to take the lead in taking out the bunker closest to them, and then asked other attack groups to separate and pull out the bunkers one by one.

Dong Limao took four people, including the little man, in charge of the largest fortress. A soldier followed with a flamethrower on his back.

Dong Limao rushed to the front, threw two grenades at the target, and ran quickly towards the fortress. The four soldiers behind him followed closely, using the shell crater as a cover, and quickly approached the largest bunker on Mengling Slope.

This bunker is the headquarters of the Menglingpo garrison. Its structure is similar to that of the fortress on Songshan Mountain. It is very strong. The artillery fire just now only damaged the surface of the bunker and was unable to shake anyone in the bunker.

When the artillery fire stopped, the Japanese troops in the bunker began to come out one after another, preparing for another attack by the Chinese ground troops. What these Japanese soldiers did not expect was that, like magic soldiers descending from the sky, the Chinese troops suddenly appeared behind them.

Under the fire of submachine guns in the hands of Dong Limao and others, dozens of people fell down, and the remaining people retreated into the bunker.

? ? Almost all of these bunkers have no shooting holes in the back, only doorways for entry and exit. Perhaps when the bunkers were built, it was estimated that the back would not be attacked, so Dong Limao and others were given a good opportunity to approach the bunker and block the Japanese army in the bunker.

The team led by Dong Limao arrived at the trench leading to the entrance of the attacking bunker. The entrance was tightly blocked from the inside with a steel door several inches thick. It was impossible to blow it open.

"Give me the flamethrower!" Dong Limao said to the soldier carrying the flamethrower.

With the flamethrower on his back, Dong Limao asked other soldiers to cover him, climbed up from the trench to the top of the bunker, and first threw a grenade into the shooting hole below. After an explosion, he inserted the mouth of the flamethrower into the shooting hole.  Flames were sprayed, and the howls of crying fathers and mothers came from the bunker.

The little man and the others were in the trench when they suddenly saw the doorway open. As flames emerged from inside, several Japanese soldiers who were on fire ran out screaming. Four soldiers fired at the doorway almost at the same time.

The largest Japanese bunker at Menglingpo was cleared by Dong Limao's flamethrower.

Most of the remaining bunkers were attacked by grenades from the commandos. The powerful firepower points of the bunkers were pulled out one by one. The main attacking ground troops at the foot of the mountain began to rush up. They easily rushed to the top of the fierce ridge and participated in the clearing.  Among the ranks of Japanese troops in the bunker.

Half an hour before the sun set, Mengling Slope to the east of the outskirts of Longling City was captured.

¡°As for the two platoons of soldiers led by Dong Limao, only twelve people were injured to varying degrees, and none of them died.

The battle at Menglingpo allowed Dong Limao to write another magical page in the counterattack expeditionary force.

It was because of Dong Limao's surprise victory in capturing Menglingpo with a very small number of troops that Zheng Chengkui later recommended Dong Limao's spy company to the Eighth Army responsible for the second stage of the Songshan offensive.

After taking Mengling Slope, the expeditionary force basically occupied the strategic dominant position outside Longling City. The strength of three divisions surrounded Longling into an isolated city. It could have captured Longling in one fell swoop, but Tengchong City had two thousand  Multiple Japanese and puppet troops and more than 1,000 Japanese troops from Mangshi rushed towards Longling along the Burma Highway. In addition, more than 5,000 Japanese and puppet troops in Longling City also began to actively counterattack under the cover of tanks, resulting in a siege.  The expeditionary force in Longling City was attacked from both sides. The 87th Division suffered heavy casualties and was almost wiped out.

Under the massive Japanese counterattack, the expeditionary force that besieged Longling had to retreat to the foot of Songshan Mountain to defend the Burma Highway, preventing the Japanese army from reinforcing Songshan.  At this point, the Japanese positions outside Longling City captured by the expeditionary force were once again occupied by the Japanese army.

By July 13, the 71st Army had assembled another 30,000 troops from five divisions: the 87th Division, the 88th Division, the Honorable 1st Division, the New 28th Division, and the New 39th Division, and faced the Japanese troops in Longling County from the east, north, and south.  The stronghold launched a second siege, and once again occupied Japanese positions such as Nanchang, Changlinggang, Menglingpo, Guanglinpo, and Sanguanpo, and controlled the highway from Longling to Mangshi and Tengchong.  However, because Songshan has not yet been completed, various military supplies cannot be transported to the army through the Burma Road, causing difficulties in supplying the troops besieging Longling. In order to open up the road from Mangshi to Longling as soon as possible, the Japanese army sent additional 56th troops to Longling.  The main force of the division and the 2nd Division, more than 15,000 people, launched a frantic counterattack against the expeditionary force. Under the fierce attack of enemy artillery fire,At this time, the New 39th Division stationed outside Longling City had less than a hundred officers and soldiers left. The New 37th Division also suffered heavy losses. All the soldiers of the 3rd Battalion of the 117th Regiment who defended their positions were martyred, and many positions fell to the enemy again.  Due to heavy casualties among the soldiers, the expeditionary force had to retreat to the Nanchang area nearly 10 kilometers north of Longling City on September 10 to block the attack. The second attack on Longling failed.

Until mid-September, the Chinese Expeditionary Force also achieved comprehensive victory in the siege of Songshan and Tengchong City, and the main forces of the left and right wings gathered in Longling one after another.  On August 22, Chiang Kai-shek transferred Song Xilian away from Longling to Chongqing for training. The reason was that Chiang Kai-shek had announced the recovery of Longling in Chongqing, but the remaining enemies had not yet been eliminated.  Song Xilian was replaced by Deputy Commander-in-Chief General Huang Jie. The expeditionary force adjusted its strategy for the siege of Longling. On the one hand, it attacked the transportation positions between Longling and Mangshi to prevent enemy reinforcements, and on the other hand, it concentrated the powerful forces of 10 divisions.  , launched the third general attack on Longling City on October 29.  After five days of fierce fighting, most of the Japanese troops defending Longling were finally annihilated on November 3, and the vital strategic fortress of Longling was recaptured.  Immediately afterwards, the expeditionary force dispatched the 88th Division to pursue and suppress the remnants of the enemy fleeing toward Mangshi along the way, and successively captured the Japanese positions along the Tuanpo, Zhangjinpo, Nantianmen, and Fangmaqiao lines. By November 11, the entire territory of Longling was  The Japanese troops were basically eliminated.

Just after the expeditionary force failed to attack Longling City for the second time, Dong Limao received an order from the 8th Army of the Expeditionary Force, requiring him to lead a special agent company and rush to Songshan.
