The attack lasted nearly half an hour and caused heavy damage.  Initial battle reports on the Guam campaign did not reveal losses or casualties.  As soon as the Japanese plane left, the Marine Corps Aviation Commander sent a telegram: "Order the fighter jets to land. Split up into teams to refuel. The fifth team will land first." The two planes landed on the airport runway in accordance with the order and taxied to the airport.  In front of the hangar, the hangar had been blown to pieces and the fire was raging.  15 of the 23 "Skylark" aircraft were missing, 7 were severely damaged, and one in the east and one in the west collapsed on the ground.  The encounter with the Japanese attack aircraft group took place in the sky 35 kilometers away from Guam.  Later I heard that the air defense forces and "Skylark" fighter jets shot down more than 50 Japanese aircraft.  In the case of a huge disparity in strength, such a record is quite impressive.  At this time, everyone got out of the bunker to collect the dead and wounded air defense troops.  The warehouse was bombed and littered with cans of cigarettes.  Let's make some urgent repairs first.  While the garrison officers and soldiers in Guam were busy cleaning up the rubble, they looked uneasily at the intact airport runway.  The Japanese bombed other facilities in an attempt to suppress ground artillery fire and cut off all supplies of aircraft on Guam. However, they were extremely careful about these airport runways that were difficult to repair and did not move at all because they planned to use them themselves in the future.

Planes taking off from Guam attacked the Japanese fleet at 8:10, 8:11, 8:30 and 8:34, about a quarter of an hour or half an hour apart.  Four fleets took off from Guam one after another.  The 10th fleet consists of six "Yaosha" torpedo aircraft, commanded by Lieutenant Li Hualin.  The second fleet is the Army's 15 "Quick Knife" bombers, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Wang Wei.  The third fleet consists of 4 "Yaokai" tactical attack aircraft, each carrying a torpedo, and is led by Captain Lin Lancheng. The fourth fleet consists of 16 "Yaokai" dive bombers, led by Naval Lieutenant Colonel Xu Delin, and  11 Yaosaki dive bombers commanded by Naval Lieutenant Colonel Kho Wanli.

Six torpedo planes led by Li Hualin rushed over the target first.  Shen Honglie ordered to hit the Japanese aircraft carrier.  Japanese aircraft carriers are protected by a group of fighter jets during navigation and are surrounded by cruisers and destroyers.  The torpedo plane descended to 60 meters and bravely began the attack.  But there were many Japanese fighter jets, and all five torpedo planes were shot down.  Two of them had not had time to fire torpedoes.  Japanese pilots, like their opponents, fought very bravely, flying into the circle of fire of their own fleet to pursue torpedo aircraft.

By the time the four "Quick Knife" bombers of the Chinese Army arrived at the attack target, the torpedo plane attack had ended.  "Gale" fighter jets swooped towards them.  Lin Lancheng ordered a dive and dropped the torpedoes carried by each aircraft.  He himself fired a torpedo at an aircraft carrier at a distance of 700 meters and an altitude of 70 meters.  Lieutenant Mo Yunsheng, deputy captain of the fleet, also followed suit and dropped torpedoes.  The two torpedo planes turned to the bow of the aircraft carrier, passed through the dense rain of bullets, and flew almost vertically upward.  Lin Lancheng's landing gear was shattered, Mo Yunsheng's rear gunner was killed, and the plane's engine caught fire.  Another "Quick Knife" crashed into the sea.  The aircraft carrier under attack was hit and made a sharp turn to the right.  This aircraft carrier is the "Katsuragi".  The formation of the Japanese fleet began to become chaotic.

A few minutes later, 16 "Yaoji" dive bombers led by Lieutenant Colonel Xu Delin appeared in the sky.  There were 10 pilots in this flying group who had just joined the flying group a week ago. They knew almost nothing about dive bombing.  For this reason, Xu Delin decided to use "slide" bombing instead of dive bombing.  The fleet drew a large circle and climbed into the sky.  "A few minutes before the attack, I counted sixty-three warships," a pilot recounted: "The anti-aircraft guns fired at us with great accuracy. At the same time, a large group of Gale fighter jets also fired at us.  They came to attack us. I was almost scared to death" When Xu Delin was about to descend, his plane was hit and crashed.  Captain Wang Dengyun immediately replaced him and led the entire team to the aircraft carrier "Yunlong".  The "Yosaki" bomber group continued to descend slowly, but the "Unryu" below them suddenly turned the rudder and maneuvered, and the approaching frigates were seen staying away as if they were avoiding a crazy bear.  Several Yaosakis were hit by bullets and caught fire while sliding sideways, and fell into the sea.  The bomber that was not hit descended to 150 meters and dumped all its bombs on the "Yunlong".  Three bombs fell on the deck of the aircraft carrier, sending up a general plume of smoke.  Whenever a bomber dropped its bombs and pulled up again, a group of Gale fighters rushed towards it.  Another pilot said: "Our plane fought with eight 'Gale' fighters. My right leg was shot. The air vortex rolled the blood onto my glasses, and I could hardly see the surrounding situation. The plane's tail was hit by a bullet."  There was a big hole in the plane, my wireless telegraph machine was damaged, and all the tools on board were stained with blood. Since I had nothing else to do, I wanted to repair the oil line. In the end, the engine also stopped running. The plane fell at sea.  , fell hard, but it floated, so we floated the rubber raft to the sea." The battle of the bomber flying group lasted for 12 minutes.  Of the 16 "Yasame" dive bombers, only 8 returned to Guam, and two of them were completely damaged.

The 15 "Quick Knife" bombers led by Lieutenant Colonel Wang Wei arrived at the target before the 11 "Yaoji" aircraft commanded by Naval Lieutenant Colonel Huo Wanli. The 15 "Quick Knife" bombers dropped bombs from high altitude, although they did not hit the target.  Hit the target, but smashed the Japanese fleet into pieces.  As soon as the "Yasame" fleet arrived, they encountered desperate resistance from the "Gale" fighter group hovering over the aircraft carrier. Huo Wanli abandoned these targets and led the fleet toward the "Hiei" battleship.  The two bombs hit the tall shipbuilding of the "Hiei". Smoke rose and the ship immediately rolled over.  The Yaosaki fleet turned around and returned. Only two Yaosaki bombers did not fly back to Guam, but made an emergency landing at sea.

North of Guam, China¡¯s two task forces are heading towards the fighting site at full speed.  A cold mist enveloped Yaoji.  The "Dragon King" and the "Xingkai Lake" sailed at the front of the fleet with their respective "screens".  The escorting destroyers appeared and disappeared on the turbulent sea.  Since only two Japanese aircraft carriers were discovered, the fleet led by the "Cai Feng" followed behind as a reserve force.  The pilots on the aircraft carrier were woken up at 3 o'clock.  Starting at 4 o'clock, they sat fully clothed on the leather chairs in the waiting room, looking at the fluorescent board, which reflected the constant news of Japan's attack on Guam.  The crew learned from it that Japan was bombing the islands and the desperate resistance of fighter jets on the islands.  Then, it was time for the aircraft carrier's pilots to go into battle, and they all boarded their planes.  By the time they stepped onto the flight deck, the fog had lifted.  The Chinese fleet was marching under clear skies, and aircraft from each aircraft carrier took off one after another.

The aircraft that took off from "Xingkai Lake" were 35 "Yaoji" dive bombers; 15 "Javelin" torpedo aircraft and 10 "Feng Lei" heavy carrier-based fighters.  Starting at 7:50, 35 Yaosaki bombers, 14 torpedo aircraft and 10 fighter jets on the "Dragon King" took off one after another.  Because it was considered dangerous for the "Saifeng" aircraft to remain on the deck, 17 "Yosaki" bombers, 12 torpedo aircraft and 6 fighter jets also took off one after another starting at 8:40.  There are 17 "Yosaki" bombers prepared to attack enemy aircraft carriers that have not yet been discovered.

The bombers and fighters of the "Xingkai Lake" did not find the Japanese.  At this time, the Japanese fleet had turned around and headed northwest. The pilot was ordered to fly to the indicated location, but did not see any target.  As a result, the bombers and fighter jets of the "Xingkai Lake" turned southwest and continued their search.

The torpedo aircraft of "Xingkai Lake" were commanded by Lieutenant Commander Kindlon.  This flying group separated from the bombers and fighters on the way. They went in the other direction to search for the Japanese. At about 9:20, they discovered the Japanese fleet.  After some searching, the torpedo plane was almost out of gas.  After discovering that the Japanese had entered, Kindlon requested via radio to go back and refuel before attacking again.  Fu Renxuan replied: "Attack immediately!" The Japanese fleet lined up in a mighty formation, 15 kilometers long in front and back.  The torpedo aircraft of the "Xingkai Lake", like the torpedo aircraft of Guam, descended to the bombing height without fighter escort, faced the fierce Japanese fighter jets, and flew slowly and levelly towards the attack target.  As a result, the torpedo planes caught fire one after another and fell into the sea, and none of them could return to the "Xingkai Lake".  Among the pilots in the entire group, only one naval lieutenant named Gai Guoqiang escaped death.  After the plane was shot down, the cabin seat cushions were scattered from the plane on the sea. He hugged the seat cushions and floated on the sea.  "Then, I got into the water to pull out the injured rear gunner," he recounted, "but I couldn't save him. I got out of the water and saw a huge Japanese aircraft carrier heading towards me at a glance.  There were many aircraft parked on the deck. This scene was quite interesting, but it was too close to me. When the aircraft carrier was about five hundred meters away from me, it made a sharp turn to the right, and the surrounding cruisers also followed suit.  Turn right and drive about 450 meters away from me." In order to prevent the Japanese from finding out, Gai Guoqiang didn't inflate the rubber raft until it was almost dark.  With his face close to the water, he witnessed the aftermath of the Battle of Guam.

After drifting on the sea for less than an hour, he saw another Chinese torpedo aircraft group flying over.  This is the 6th Flying Group on the "Dragon King".  In the morning, the fighter jets of the "Dragon King" rushed ahead of the torpedo planes and hovered over the attack target for half an hour.  The fighter jets are running out of gas.  The captain of the "Dragon King" fighter flight group saw that there were no Japanese fighters (the "Gale" fighter jets were refueling at the time) and reported: "There are no fighter patrols in the air." Then he ordered the entire team to turn around and return.  A few minutes later, the torpedo plane of the "Dragon King" arrived.  "Gale" fighter jets also appeared in Yaokong.  The 6th Flying Group selected the aircraft carrier "Yunlong" which had been severely damaged as a target.  The Chinese pilots desperately crossed the barrier of fierce anti-aircraft artillery fire and advanced at low altitude despite the rain of bullets fired by 25 Japanese fighter jets. 10 of the 14 aircraft were shot down.

The four torpedo planes that had narrowly escaped death were speeding toward the southeast while struggling to climb high into the sky.  At this time, my face was pressed against the water?Gai Guoqiang, who was watching the battle, saw another group of Chinese torpedo planes flying over. This torpedo plane group was escorted by fighter jets.  The Third Torpedo Aircraft Group is attached to the "Cai Feng". They are escorted by 16 fighters from the "Cai Feng", as well as fighters from the "Dragon King". After meeting on the way, they also decided to give this torpedo aircraft that went to attack  Brigade escort.  However, the Chinese fighter jets were attacked by numerous and fast "Gale" fighter jets. The Japanese aircraft surrounded the Chinese aircraft, adopted a divide-and-control approach, and struck them one by one, finally separating them from the torpedo aircraft.  This group of torpedo planes was the same as the previous two groups. When it was flying levelly towards the attack target, another group of "Gale" planes attacked fiercely.  Gai Guoqiang saw that 7 torpedo planes caught fire and fell down before dropping bombs. The remaining 5 dropped torpedoes at the "Katsuragi" aircraft carrier, and 3 of them were shot down just after dropping the bombs.

Because the new pilots who joined the army were not familiar with combat skills, several flying groups became separated from each other. The target was not found in the original position, so each group split up to search.  The bomber group of the "Xingkai Lake" did not find the target.

"Dragon King" dive bomber group leader Lieutenant Colonel McKinley discovered the Japanese after more than an hour of searching.  He looked from an altitude of 6,000 meters and saw a thin white line stretching on the blue sea near the edge of the sea.  That's the green smoke coming out of the Japanese warship.  McKinley sent a telegram to the Dragon King, ordering the aircraft to form formation.  He felt strange, why no Japanese fighter jets came to fight?  As he gradually approached the target, he took a closer look and saw that the "Gale" fighter jet was in front.  More than five thousand meters away from him, a group of wasp-like Gale fighter jets were trying their best to kill the torpedo aircraft.  Two large and one small aircraft carrier clearly appeared on the sea.  The escort cruiser is far away from the aircraft carrier, but the destroyer is close to the aircraft carrier, changing formation with the aircraft carrier.  At this time, the dive bomber group of the "Cai Feng" came to join the bomber group of the "Dragon King" and organized the attack together.  The bombers of the "Dragon King" split into two groups and attacked the aircraft carriers "Dafeng" and "Yunlong" separately.  The bombers of the "Saiho" pounced on the "Katsuragi".

The bombers were getting closer and closer to the aircraft carrier, and the aircraft carrier's flight deck was seen shaking slightly, getting bigger and bigger, and the "Xu Ri" mark printed in the middle of the aircraft carrier became more and more eye-catching, arranged on the stern deck.  The wings of the airplane are shining.  The first batch of bombs exploded, but missed their target, causing jets of white water to the left and right of the "Yunlong".  Suddenly, a blazing red light rushed up from the stern of the ship, like a strange blooming flower, radiating in all directions, and flames suddenly shot up.  Another bomb penetrated the deck and disappeared.  Immediately afterwards, a stream of debris erupted from the crack in the deck and shot straight into the sky.  At this time, the "Gale" fighter jets began to rise and attack the Chinese bombers, but the Chinese bombers continued to attack the aircraft carrier. The "Dafeng" was also hit in several places and began to burn, and the Chinese bombers also fell into the sea one after another.  The "Dragon King" lost 12 of its 33 bombers.  The last bomber to fly away dropped a bomb on a destroyer. The destroyer suddenly became motionless as if it was stuck on the sea, and smoke rose from the middle deck.  Lieutenant Gai Guoqiang of the Navy had been climbing on his floating cushion to watch the battle. Suddenly he saw a ball of fire bursting from the "Yunlong", and the sea waves suddenly rose up, attacking Gai Guoqiang head and face.  It turned out that the ammunition bay of the Japanese aircraft carrier exploded.

As soon as the "Katsuragi" turned around and stood facing the wind, preparing to release the aircraft for takeoff, the "Saifeng"'s "Yasame" bombers rushed towards it.  As soon as the first Japanese plane flew out of the bow of the ship, the first bomb hit the stern of the ship. The bomb exploded in the middle of the group of aircraft, and the stern of the ship suddenly turned into a sea of ??fire.  Within seconds, the Katsuragi was hit by seven bombs, turning the aircraft carrier into a large fire pit floating on the sea.  Seeing that the Japanese aircraft carrier was in danger, the four bombers of the "Cai Feng" turned to attack a cruiser and a battleship next to it. The two warships were hit at the same time.  Thick smoke billowed from the battleship, and the cruiser lay motionless on the sea.  No one in the bomber group of the "Cai Feng" was damaged and returned safely.  The results obtained by the Chinese naval aviation from 11:00 to 12:00 were: Japan's three aircraft carriers "Unryu", "Katsugi" and "Taiho" lost their combat effectiveness, a destroyer was blown up, a cruiser was severely damaged, and a  A battleship was damaged.  Another Japanese aircraft carrier, the "Aso", was not damaged and was seen heading north under the cloud system.

The Chinese aircraft carriers meandered southwestward with their own "barriers", trying to avoid Japan's fast battleships.  As soon as the bombers of the "Cai Feng" returned to the ship, they received an order to leave the flight deck immediately.  The time was exactly 12 o'clock.  The escort group of "Cai Feng" encountered 32 Japanese dive bombers escorted by 20 fighter jets over the northern sea.  These Japanese planes took off from the "Aso".  The two sides engaged in a short but fierce battle.  As a result, only 8 Japanese bombers escaped from the hands of Chinese fighters.  Japan's aircraft came to intercept the "Jiangsu" and "Rehe"Two heavy cruisers, and the "Cai Feng" aircraft carrier escorted by 5 destroyers.  The cannons on the fleet fired in unison, like shooting clay pigeons at a target.  Since there were not many daylight opportunities, the gunners did not organize their firepower network and simply chose their own targets to fire.
