In the night, by the lakeside, the chirping of summer insects is intertwined.

Under the wild trees and among the tangled grass, one person was sitting quietly, while the other was lying crookedly.

The moonlight was faint, pouring down from the branches and leaves, and sparsely shining on the two people.

Bian Yao closed his eyes and lay there motionless, as if falling into a drowsiness.  His hair and clothes were all wet, as if he had just been fished out of the water.

Next to her, Mu Qingge was sitting quietly on her knees, holding the simple sword in her right hand, staring at the sword with a complicated expression, not knowing what she was thinking.  After a moment, he put the sword back into its sheath, glanced at the scratches on the palm of his left hand, and finally took the damp blue cloth and silently wrapped the sword.

"Hey! Wake up!" Mu Qingge turned her head and reached out to push Bian Yao's shoulder.

Drowsily, Bian Yao made a few unclear murmurs, then suddenly opened his eyes and quickly sat up.  He turned around and looked around, finally staring at Mu Qingge and asked: "What happened just now? Who saved us?"

"I don't know." Mu Qingge avoided his gaze and replied in a calm tone.

Hearing his answer, Bian Yao had a look of disappointment on his face. He looked at the Qianyue Lake in front of him, looking at the calm lake under the moonlight, he frowned and fell into deep thought.

Previously, the two of them were attacked by alien beasts, and the island they were on suddenly and rapidly sank, causing the two of them to face a double dilemma!  In panic, Bian Yao thought he would not survive. However, when he followed the island and sank into the dark lake, he suddenly felt someone tapping the acupuncture point on the back of his head, and he lost his memory after going back.

"Your injuries are not serious, right?" Mu Qingge was silent for a while and then said suddenly.

"It's all flesh wounds, just a little painful." Bian Yao came back to his senses, suddenly shook his head and looked around, and asked in surprise: "Is there anyone else?"

¡°I don¡¯t know, I can only look for them along the lake shore.¡± Mu Qingge replied.

"Looking for it now? What if we encounter a strange beast again?"

"It's better to meet them early. Those strange beasts before were all water beasts living in the lake, and they shouldn't be able to come ashore easily."

Bian Yao sighed low, picked up the soaked clothes with his fingers, then took out a bundle from the space bag, threw it to Mu Qingge, and said, "Let's change the clothes first."

After a while, the two of them each changed into a set of clean clothes, ate a few spiritual fruits, and rested on the spot for half a moment before setting off to take a detour to the north.

On the shore of the lake, there were overgrown weeds and wild trees. The two of them moved forward cautiously, looking around from time to time and listening carefully to see if there was any human voice or movement.

Although the area of ??Qianyue Lake is not very large, it is definitely not small either.  Even walking along the lakeshore during the day would take several hours.  Nowadays, when traveling at night, you still need to be careful of possible dangers, so the speed is naturally not much faster.

However, until dawn, no one else was found.

Time passes slowly, and the shadow of the sun gradually rises.  It was not until midday that the two finally discovered the traces left by the team on a narrow grassland on the northwest bank of Qianyue Lake.  But there were some small rags scattered among the grass, and there were dried blood stains on many grass blades.

Bian Yao glanced at them casually and said, "It seems that many of them were seriously injured and seemed to have left overnight."

Mu Qingge stared at the remaining traces for a moment, and finally turned to look in a certain direction and said seriously: "It should be heading that way. I wonder if I can catch up."

As soon as he finished speaking, Bian Yao curled his lips and said with a look of displeasure: "Why chase after me! This is not a good idea. It's boring to go with them anyway. It's better to rush back to Shuxian by yourself and be happy and comfortable."  ."

With this situation, Bian Yao is very happy!  For him, leaving the team heralds freedom and is a good thing to be happy about, which is exactly what he wants!

Because of some unspeakable reason, Mu Qingge wanted to join everyone, but in her heart she agreed with Bian Yao's proposal.  He stood there, thinking silently, hesitating for a long time, and finally said two words: "That's fine."

Regarding the accident that happened last night, Bian Yao thought to himself that the huge wave and the strange beast that appeared later were vaguely related to the mysterious "dream realm" that he entered.  However, for some unknown reason, he kept the matter in his heart and did not say it out loud.  As for Mu Qingge, she seemed to be hiding something in her heart. She didn't mention a word about what happened after the island sank.

In this way, the two lagging behind stayed in place for a while, then turned and ran towards the southwest.

Three days later, the two entered the western area of ??Qugong County.

This is a desolate area. At a glance, the field of vision is full of wild trees.  Walking through it, you can see deserted villages from time to time. Most of the houses and villages are dilapidated and rarely inhabited.

At dusk, the sky is filled with clouds and the sky is colorful.

On the grassy path, Bian Yao was nibbling wild peaches picked from the woods and strolling forward, looking around from time to time, but there was no one in sight.  Next to him, Mu Qingge was carrying a cloth-wrapped sword on his back and also holding a big wild peach in his hand, eating as he walked.

Suddenly, a cry came from my ears, like a baby, and the sound was weird.

Bian Yao frowned and stopped at the same time as Mu Qingge. They looked at each other and saw surprise and curiosity in each other's eyes.  After listening carefully, I quickly identified the source of the sound.

Hidden in the sparse wild wood forest is an unnamed isolated village with dozens of dilapidated houses clustered together to form a large circular courtyard.  Moss marks have grown on the gray tiles on the roof, and wild grasses have grown between the cracks in the walls, swaying gently in the evening breeze.

Following the "wow" sound, the two people soon came to the passage between the houses, quietly leaned against the wall, looked into the courtyard, and saw an astonishing scene!

In front of an old house with a red door, there was a dark wooden altar, on which was placed the mummy of a baby. The body was wrapped in a layer of white cloth, with the shriveled head exposed.

The infant corpse stood quietly on the altar, with a pair of strange eyes that seemed to glow.  Although its mouth is closed tightly, it sometimes makes weird wailing sounds, and sometimes makes a "gurgling" sound that seems to be a smile but not a smile. It sounds very penetrating and makes people shudder.

Under the altar, there is a small black iron basin, and a white-haired old man kneels beside it, burning pieces of yellow paper with pious expression on his face.  There were dozens of villagers, men, women, old and young, all wearing black mourning clothes and kneeling facing the altar.

Suddenly, a gust of wind blew by, and the infant corpse stopped screaming, leaned back, and fell on the altar.

The old man quickly put the remaining yellow paper in his hand into the basin. The flames suddenly rose and engulfed the paper, turning it into a pile of ashes in an instant.

Looking at the scene in front of me from a distance, I felt my scalp was numb, and I couldn't help but whisper: "This Qugong County is really a weird place, you can encounter these weird things everywhere!"

"Let's go!" Mu Qingge said, preparing to leave.

Just when the two people turned around and took two steps, an old and gloomy voice suddenly sounded behind them: "You two young men, it's getting late, you might as well stay in this village for the night."

When he suddenly heard the words, Bian Yao's body trembled suddenly, and he quickly turned around and saw the white-haired old man burning paper staring at him, his eyes serious, and there was no expression on his face.

At this time, the kneeling villagers also stood up one after another. Each of them looked at the two uninvited guests with cold expressions, keeping their mouths closed and saying nothing.

After witnessing the scene just now, Bian Yao didn't want to have contact with these people at all, let alone stay in this weird and inexplicable place.  He was stunned for a while, then smiled and said: "Thank you for your kindness! We came here just out of curiosity and had no other intention."

"You two can rest assured! During the Yin Sacrifice just now, the spirit infants have driven away the nearby corpses and ghosts." The old man continued, although his tone was cold, his attitude was very sincere.

After hearing what the old man said, Bian Yao's expression suddenly changed, he cursed secretly in his heart, and hurriedly said: "Thank you for your kindness! We have urgent matters and need to travel overnight. Farewell!"

After saying this, he secretly winked at Chao Mu Qingge, and the two of them left the village in a hurry.

"It seems that you are practitioners, but you need to be careful when walking at night! If you are caught by a corpse, it will still be a troublesome thing!" The old man looked at the backs of the two people and reminded them kindly.

Ignoring the words behind them, the two of them turned back to the original trail and continued moving forward. However, the atmosphere had changed invisibly!

Bian Yao's face was very ugly, and the relaxed and happy mood earlier had long since disappeared.  He looked at the fading sunset on the horizon and complained as he walked: "What the hell is this place! It's full of weird people and weird things, even the words they say are so weird!"

Mu Qingge made no sound and walked forward silently, frowning slightly as if thinking about something.

The glow faded, the sky became dim, and soon after, dusk fell.
