The North-South Peace Negotiation Behind the Shady Chapter 732: Bloody Battle in Hsinchu 1

Hsinchu was originally the residence of the Daokas Zhuqian Society.  ¡¾.Com ÒëÎÄ ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡///The systematic reclamation by the Han people began in the early 18th century. The city was built with bamboo in 1733, and the Tamsui Hall set up a bamboo cutting in 1756.  When Taiwan Governor Liu Mingchuan was in charge of Taiwan, the city was renamed Hsinchu. In 1918, Hsinchu Street was established, a street yard was set up, and a squadron of Japanese troops were stationed to guard against possible rebellions by the local Kas and Han people.

The northern half of Hsinchu is located on the Hsinchu Plain formed by the alluvial waters of Touqian Creek, Fengshan Creek and Keya Creek. The terrain is low and flat.  The southern half extends from the west side of Zhudong Hills, and the highest peak is Wubuwei Mountain, with an altitude of 187 meters.  There is a long and narrow coastal plain in the western coastal area.  Before the war started, the General Staff launched the intelligence network in Taiwan. After many considerations, it was finally determined that Hsinchu had a superior geographical location and was the closest to Fujian, making it very suitable for the National Defense Forces' landing operations.  Therefore, it is positioned as one of the three major landing sites for the National Defense Forces to land in Taiwan.

At midnight, the battlefield that had been noisy all day finally fell silent. Except for the occasional explosions and gunshots in the distance, it seemed that no other sounds could be heard in the entire Hsinchu. Even the wounded suppressed their groans.  , quietly waiting for dawn in the darkness.

This is Hsinchu Plain, which was originally a very mediocre and ordinary town on the island of Taiwan.  However, with the 17th Infantry Division of the National Defense Force taking advantage of the sneak attack fleet to severely damage the Japanese Navy's main warship in Taiwan, it successfully landed here. Now it has become the most "lively" place in Taiwan.

Strictly speaking, Hsinchu is not the best place to land. The Japanese know this, the General Staff knows this, and Li Han also knows it very well.  At this time, Hsinchu was not like half a century later, it had become one of the few cities on the island of Taiwan.  At this time, Hsinchu was in a dilapidated state, with nearly 70,000 indigenous people, Han Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans living here, and the port facilities were extremely crude, which created a lot of trouble for the landing of the National Defense Forces.

The troubles are not limited to these. According to Jiang Ying, commander of the 17th Infantry Division, the biggest trouble in landing in Hsinchu is that it is too close to Taipei.  Since there is a train from Hsinchu to Taipei, the Japanese army can reach Hsinchu directly at any time. This is why the Japanese only stationed one squadron of Japanese soldiers in Hsinchu before the war.

Ironically, the railway from Hsinchu to Taipei was actually built by the Chinese themselves.

In 1874, after Japan occupied the Ryukyu Islands, it began to invade Taiwan with armed force. Later, Spain also threatened to attack Taiwan from the Philippine Islands it occupied.  At that time, Taiwan was under the administration of Fujian. In order to strengthen Taiwan's defense, the Qing government appointed the Westernizer Ding Richang as the governor of Fujian.

In 1876, after Ding Richang inspected Taiwan, he reported to the court and emphasized the importance of railway construction.  Governor-General of Zhili and Beiyang Minister Li Hongzhang, Governor-General of Liangjiang Shen Baozhen and other important ministers also believed that the construction of railways in Taiwan was of "the greatest utility", "to transport goods to facilitate trade when there is no trouble, and to mobilize troops and communicate when there is trouble"; the Yamen, the Prime Minister of the Qing government, also believed that building a railway in Taiwan was "the most useful thing"  The manager is a key player in Taiwan."  Since everyone in the imperial court had the same view, on April 7, 1877, the Qing government decided to ask Ding Richang to "evaluate the terrain and make plans quickly."

In 1885, the Sino-French War ended, and Taiwan was established as a separate province for the first time.  The first governor was Liu Mingchuan.  At the beginning of 1887, Liu Mingchuan once again petitioned the court to rebuild the Taiwan Railway on the grounds of strengthening defense and developing business, and it was quickly approved.

In the spring of 1887, Liu Mingchuan officially presided over the construction of the Taiwan Railway. He selected Dadaocheng, about 8 kilometers west of the temporary provincial capital of Taipei, as the railway hub, heading northeast to Keelung, and south through Changhua (the planned new provincial capital) to the original old province.  Cheng Tainan Prefecture.  Since road construction equipment was mainly purchased from Britain and Germany, and British engineers were also employed for engineering design, the railways used British standards.  In March 1887, construction began on the section from Dadaocheng to Keelung. A few months later, construction of the southbound railway also began. Taiwan's first railway finally broke ground.

In the autumn of 1891, the Taipei-Keelung section was completed; in 1893, the line from Taipei to Hsinchu was completed.  There are 15 stations from Keelung to Hsinchu, and direct shuttle buses are operated, using four locomotives named "Tengyun", "Yifeng", "Chaochen" and "Shuodian".

After the disastrous defeat in the Sino-Japanese War, Taiwan fell into the hands of the Japanese, and the Taiwan Railway became a tool for the Japanese colonists to brutally exploit and oppress the island residents. It must be said that this is a very ironic thing.

Because the Japanese controlled this railway, the distance from Taipei to Hsinchu, which was not long in the first place, now seems to be very close.  At noon on the first day of the Sino-Japanese War on April 20, the 331st Regiment, the leading landing force of the 17th Division, arrived at Hsinchu first. Braving the enemy's hail of bullets and the danger of emergency beaching, they sacrificed more than 170 people.  At the price of dying tragically near the sea and beach, the 331st Regiment finally set foot on the treasure island of Taiwan, the lost territory of the motherland after decades of absence.

A series of fierce battles ensued. The 331st Regiment, which was only equipped with a small amount of heavy weapons, engaged in firefights with the Japanese troops stationed in Hsinchu. After nearly an hour of fierce battle, asThe main force from the other side gradually arrived. After the subsequent heavy weapons arrived, they defeated the local garrison. They not only established a stable landing beach in the coastal area, but also expanded the position thirty or forty miles inland, barely able to stand firm.  feet.

Although the Japanese were caught off guard, the 331st Regiment was not given much time to rest and recuperate. Before the soldiers got used to the transition from sea to land, the Taipei garrison, which had been on guard against the Chinese ** team, soon  When they arrived at Hsinchu, the Japanese obviously had not yet recovered from the disadvantage of being attacked passively and starting a war.  They directly mobilized the main force of a regiment in an attempt to drive the National Defense Forces landing troops into the sea before they had a firm foothold.

The fierce battle began. The Japanese army launched two large-scale attacks on Jiulizhuang, but both were repelled by the Chinese ** troops who were stationed on the nearby highlands of Hsinchu.

As the commander of the 17th Infantry Division, Jiang Ying is currently patrolling the positions of the 331st Regiment accompanied by Zhang Dong, the commander of the 331st Regiment.  After wandering at sea for so long, and then just landing, there were a series of fierce battles. Now the soldiers are very tired, and both of them are also very tired, but considering that the Japanese army may launch a night attack, and the 331st regiment has been killed and injured in the battle  Despite the tragedy, Jiang Ying still managed to cheer up and came here to visit and express condolences to the soldiers. By the way, he reminded everyone to be careful to prevent a sneak attack by the Japanese.

"Master, brothers, although we are very tired, we all know what we are fighting for. It is to regain our country and to take back the island of Taiwan that the Japanese snatched from our hands. Can you still hold on?  live¡¡"

A group of people patrolled the nearby positions for a while. Although several of his battalion commanders opened their mouths and wanted to speak, Zhang Dong glared and stopped them.

After all, Jiang Ying is the current top commander of the landing force and cannot stay on the front line for long.  After a round of inspection, he promised to immediately send out a batch of medicines and ammunition, and then left the front line. Only Zhang Dong and a few other officers of the 331st Regiment were left standing there with dark faces and big eyes.

    "Group seats"

Just as Jiang Ying walked away, the battalion commander of the battalion below had a serious look on his face and actually lost his temper at Zhang Dong, "The master came just now, why didn't you tell him that our 331st regiment was crippled and we need to  In addition, brothers need more rest and medical treatment to recuperate."

"Yes, Tuanzuo. We don't have many heavy weapons. We only rely on four machine guns and three mortars. Once the Japanese come over again, it will be very hard for us to fight!"

Zhang Dong glared and scolded sternly, "Are we the only ones who fought hard? Didn't the brothers in other regiments work hard?"

His eyes were red. He had been leading the 331st Regiment two years ago until now.  He was familiar with every name and appearance of each person in the group. These were all his brothers. Wasn't he heartbroken?

But what¡¯s the use of heartache?

The navy of the Republic of China was weak. Although they relied on sneak attacks to severely damage the Japanese naval warships stationed in Taiwan, the army was able to be transported to Taiwan Island for landing operations.  However, the Republic of China lacked enough transport ships and did not have the protection of the surface fleet, which they once relied on to severely damage the submarines stationed in the Taiwan fleet. During the day, they could only lurk in deeper sea areas, or avoid the Japanese who were red-eyed and crazy for revenge.  The remaining battleships.

It can be said that transporting tens of thousands of people from the two brigades of the 17th Division ashore was already the limit of the Republic of China's maritime transport capabilities.  Moreover, when they were sent ashore, they were only equipped with a small number of heavy weapons. It was fine for them to defend Hsinchu, but it was very difficult to fight back against the Japanese.  There is a complete Japanese division stationed not far away in Taipei, equipped with everything from rifles to artillery.  It is precisely for this reason that in the short seven or eight hours of battle with the Japanese today, more than 3,000 people were killed or injured.

In such a dire situation where everything is lacking, how could Zhang Dong open his mouth and take the initiative to ask for something from his teacher!

He was a little annoyed when he saw that several people were still talking, "Shut up, my brothers are not cowards. Didn't they say that when they made arrangements? Tonight, they will discredit a batch of equipment for us.  Don¡¯t worry, it will happen sooner or later!¡±

The second battalion was almost crippled. Battalion Commander He Fei, still holding a blood-stained gauze on his head, smoked his last cigarette in a muffled voice, "But our position is too far forward. If the Japanese come to sneak attack, we will bear the brunt."  !¡±

"Stop talking about it. The second battalion will withdraw to the second line to rest. The third battalion will be replenished and will immediately take over the front line. Niu Dashun, I know you have been unhappy with me. I feel that my regiment leader who does not know a few characters is not as educated as you. Today I will give you  If you give me a chance, I will personally lead the team to follow suit. If the little devil wants to sneak attack, he must first step over my body!"

He snorted and asked for a rifle and a bag full of bullets from a nearby position, then pulled out his command gun and handed it to the commander of the first battalion, Niu Dashun.

    "Groupseat¡¡"

"Don't talk nonsense. Rest when you need to rest, and command when you need to command. There will be a series of fierce battles tomorrow. Whether we can open our eyes and see the motherland win this battle depends on ourselves!"

After saying that, he snorted angrily and walked towards the front line with a rifle in hand.

In fact, Zhang Dong did not do it rashly. Niu Dashun, the battalion commander who commanded the previous battalion, was indeed a step ahead of him in commanding ability. During today's charge battle, he realized the gap between himself and Niu Dashun.  The casualties at the front were not high, but the second battalion under his direct command suffered heavy casualties.

With self-blame and guilt, if the 331st regiment can reduce casualties in the hands of Niu Dashun, the brothers can all see the day when the Republic of China defeated the Japanese and won this war.  What does it mean for him to be a soldier on guard alone

Holding a rifle in his hand, Zhang Dong walked in the dark on a nearby high position in the dark night. Because it was a cloudy day and there was no moonlight, it was very difficult to see clearly under such light conditions.  With one foot high and one foot low, he could only move forward gropingly, which made his progress very slow.

There are lanterns, but they cannot be used. In this dark night, if Japan launches a night attack.  The bright lantern is the best shooting target. Even if the military medical officer gives the painkiller injection to the wounded, he can only do it gropingly in the dark.

The position garrisoned by the 331st Regiment is located on a high ground. The division headquarters is only 27 miles behind Hsinchu. About 20 miles to the east is an indigenous village, and to the north is the railway from Taipei to Hsinchu.  If the 17th Division had not sent people to blow up several sections of the railway, I am afraid that the main force of the Japanese would have been killed in front of them now.

This place, which was temporarily designated as Highland 331, is actually very empty in defense.  During the day's battle, Highland 331 changed hands several times. The artillery fire from both sides of the war had leveled some simple fortifications nearby. Considering that the Japanese knew the terrain nearby better than they did, they actually did not dare to build in many places.  Defensive position, lest the Japanese heavy artillery could hit it.

During the daytime battle, the Japanese offensive troops used several heavy howitzers.  The 331 regiment carried out fierce shelling on the defenders. Since the 331 regiment did not have heavy weapons, machine guns and mortars were unable to suppress the Japanese artillery fire. Therefore, they suffered heavy casualties during the battle. If the nearby land was not relatively soft, they would  Some simple trenches and defenses were built in a short period of time. Whether the 331st Regiment still exists is still a question.

However, the Japanese were no better, because they quickly destroyed the railway from Taipei to Hsinchu, and the Japanese vanguard rushed too quickly and did not carry enough ammunition. By five o'clock in the afternoon, the Japanese heavy artillery was silenced.  .

Without the support of heavy artillery, the Japanese offensive was immediately contained. The attack was completely stopped before dark, and they finally retreated to build a defense line to prevent them from sneak attacks at night.

Although the intention of the Japanese commander was very obvious, which was to retake Hsinchu and drive the National Defense Forces who did not have enough heavy weapons into the sea, they were very concerned about gains and losses in their tactical arrangements.  Because of the sneak attack launched by Tibet in the Republic of China against the Japanese, the Taiwanese colonial authorities, who have received some reports of domestic battles with Liaodong and Korea, are also very vigilant. They are afraid that the militia troops on the opposite side are just a feint attack force, and the main force will land in other areas, and then  They took the opportunity to land when the Japanese navy stationed in Taiwan suffered heavy losses, and surrounded the Japanese troops stationed in Taiwan.

It is normal for the Japanese commander to have this mentality. After all, Taiwan, like the Liaodong Peninsula, is China's inherent territory, not a place like North Korea.  Among the millions of residents here, those who are close to and support the Japanese are only a minority, and the vast majority are devoted to their motherland.

"Japan has done so many things in Taiwan over the years that have caused outrage and resentment, and these rootless colonists are also worried!
