The wind whistled outside the window. Yuan Shao was wrapped in a robe made of Shu brocade and covered with thick mink fur, lying quietly on his back on the bed.  He stared at the ceiling with half-open eyes, his eyes seemed to be distracted, and there was no life in his gray pupils.  Yuan Shao has been like this since he was defeated by Cao Cao at the Yellow River crossing last year. His eyes can only vaguely see what is in front of him, and he needs people to serve him when eating and drinking.

"Why is it so noisy outside" Yuan Shao murmured to himself.

"I don't know. We've been noisy all night, and none of the people sent out to investigate have come back to reply." Mrs. Liu sat beside Yuan Shao's bed, flicking the charcoal in the brazier with a fire tong, and sparks scattered randomly.  It came out and disappeared in a flash in the air.  Feeling that the room was getting warmer again, Ms. Liu put the tongs aside, picked up the medicine bowl on the bedside, and asked, "How about I send someone out to take a look?"

While Mrs. Liu was talking, there were chaotic footsteps outside the door, and then she heard the sound of knocking on the door. Mrs. Liu felt vaguely uneasy and said to the door: "Who is it? The master has gone to bed. Is there anything important?  Let¡¯s wait until tomorrow.¡±

"I am Liu Xuande." Liu Bei's calm voice came from outside the door, "I have specially sought out several doctors who are proficient in medical skills to diagnose Brother Benchu."

"It turns out to be Ambassador Liu." Mrs. Liu breathed a sigh of relief, "But it's so late"

"Sister-in-law, your condition cannot be delayed." Liu Bei said as he opened the door and walked in.  He held a lacquered wood medicine box in his hand and nodded slightly to Liu to show respect. Guan Yu and Zhang Fei followed Liu Bei, both holding boxes of the same style.  Mrs. Liu stood up and returned the gift to Liu Bei. Ever since her three sons had a falling out in the court and turned against each other, the eldest son Yuan Tan had never visited Yuan Shao again. Although Yuan Xi and Yuan Shang came here often, but every time  He only took a quick look and hurriedly walked out on the grounds that he was busy with government affairs.  Liu Bei, on the other hand, often came with medicinal materials and doctors on weekdays. He was very attentive and always asked about Yuan Shao's current situation in detail. Sometimes when Yuan Shao was in good spirits, he would chat with Yuan Shao for a while.  The situation in the city.

"Liu Shijun, has the doctor you mentioned arrived?" Mrs. Liu asked suspiciously when she saw that Liu Bei was followed only by his two sworn brothers.

Liu Bei looked at Guan Yu and Zhang Fei and said: "My two sworn brothers are both knowledgeable in medicine, and this time they brought the right herbs. Why don't we let them diagnose and treat Brother Benchu."

Mrs. Liu began to feel uneasy again. Although she had lived within the high walls of the deep courtyard for a long time, she also knew that Guan Yu and Zhang Fei had always been famous for their martial arts. She had never heard of their skill of hanging a pot to save the world.  When Liu Bei saw the doubtful look on her face, he smiled faintly, walked slowly to the bed, leaned forward and said, "Brother Benchu."

"Brother Xuande, is that you?" Yuan Shao was still looking at the ceiling with dull eyes.

"It's me." Liu Bei leaned on the edge of the bed, "Brother Benchu, how are you feeling today? Are you feeling better?"

"Brother Xian, I'm afraid my health is failing." Yuan Shao gasped, "At this point, I can only take a more open-minded view. You happen to be here today, and I want to ask Brother Xian, which of my sons  , which one do you think can inherit my position?"

"I'm sorry to say that I don't dare to say anything about brother Benchu's family matters."

Yuan Shao ignored Liu Bei and said to himself: "My third son Yuan Shang is handsome and the most popular among me. If he succeeds to the throne, what will Xuande think?"

Liu Bei lowered his eyes, looked at the ground, was silent for a long time, and then whispered: "Brother Benchu, don't blame me for talking too much. Since ancient times, the elders have been abolished and the young have been abolished, and the way of chaos has been adopted. Don't pass it on to the younger ones because of doting."

Yuan Shao closed his eyes and said, "Xuande means that I will be transferred to Yuan Tan?"

Liu Bei shook his head and said: "He is strong-willed and prone to killing, but he has no talent for being a king."

"Then Xuande asked me to pass on the position to Yuan Xi?" Yuan Shao laughed softly, "It is fair not to pass on the eldest son, but not to the youngest son."

"Xianyi is a coward, indecisive in situations, and unable to accomplish great things." Liu Bei raised his head and raised his voice.

Yuan Shao looked confused and murmured: "Then Xuande means"

"Brother Benchu." Liu Bei stood up and said loudly, "Several major events happened in Yecheng tonight, which are extremely urgent. Originally, my brother was sick, so I shouldn't have come to disturb him. But if this matter is not resolved as soon as possible, I'm afraid it will  Qing Erzhou will no longer be the land of the Han Dynasty. So I came here late at night to ask Brother Benchu ??to make a decision."

"What's going on?" Yuan Shao turned his head hard and looked at Liu Bei.

"Brother Benchu, please take a look." Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei opened the lid of the lacquered wooden box in their hands, and blood dripped down.  Ms. Liu screamed. He stumbled back and collapsed on Yuan Shao's couch.  What was in the box was not any medicinal materials at all, but the heads of Yuan Shao's three sons. They opened their eyes wide, as if they could not believe what was happening in front of them until they died.

"The three young masters each got entangled with the sergeants and killed each other in Yecheng. When I received the news, I had no time to discuss with brother Ben Chu, so I immediately led my troops to persuade peace. But the three young masters stubbornly refused to obey, and I had no choice but to give the order.  Kill them on the spot." Liu Bei put the box on the ground, handed it over and said, "What I have done is for the land and future of the Han Dynasty. If there is any overstep, please forgive me, brother Benchu."

Yuan Shao's eyes widened and he stared at his son's head. His lips trembled violently and he wanted to say something, but his throat could only make a whining sound. His gray pupils were filled with shock.  With a sad expression, tears welled up like spring water.

Liu Bei stepped forward, leaned in Yuan Shao's ear, and whispered: "Brother Benchu, you are already old and no longer suitable to compete with the heroes in this era. I can handle the affairs of the two states of Hebei and Qing."  As long as you press your fingerprint on this document and grant your position to me, I will arrange the rest and I will ensure that you will not be disappointed." Liu Bei said, and the general was already ready.  The paperwork was taken out of his sleeve.

"Liu Bei, you" Yuan Shao sat up suddenly, grabbed Liu Bei's collar with one hand, and stared into his eyes.

"Liu Bei, you" Yuan Shao yelled unwillingly, but this struggle used up his last strength. His hands let go of Liu Bei's clothes, and he fell back weakly, covered in gray.  The pupils dilated and became completely dim.

Liu Bei straightened up and adjusted his collar.  He bowed down with a serious expression, grabbed Yuan Shao's right hand, dipped it in the blood that had flowed on the ground, and stamped it on the prepared document.

"You have made me wait for so many years, and my father and son can be reunited before I die. I have done my best to you." Liu Bei said coldly, opened the door and strode out.

General Yuan Shao of the Han Dynasty died in the cold winter of the second year of Jian'an. This descendant of a famous family left countless jokes to future generations.  Not only was he defeated twice by Cao Cao with his strong troops, but he also handed over the two states of Hebei and Qing Dynasty to Liu Bei. In the end, he did not even save his own flesh and blood, leaving only an unfinished cry full of hatred.  It is worth mentioning that in the second year, the early spring of the third year of Jian'an, Liu Bei completely suppressed the four states of Hebei. Yuan Shao's old troops surrendered one after another, and the small amount of resistance was quickly suppressed. The general trend of the world entered again.  A whole new stage.
