Chapter 5 The Great Election: The Emperor¡¯s Armored Face 288 Autumn Wind Church

    After a while, the two cars arrived at Qiufeng Church.

    The Church of Autumn Wind is a quite large building, but it is located directly south of Shuihuo Street, which determines that it must be shabby.

    Water and Fire Street is the backbone of the area. It gets better as you go north, until you reach the rich area; while it gets worse as you go south, until you reach the slum area.

    There was originally a carriage and horse shop with a "long history". With the Mobil warehouse, there was a distribution center for kerosene. This kind of place definitely needs logistics, so there are quite a few carriage and horse shops around Shiligou that rent or park carriages.  This is a place where merchants who purchase goods from afar can park their carriages and horses and rest briefly for the night. It functions as a hotel and also rents out vehicles, mules, horses, and oil barrels.

    Later, the Mobil Warehouse moved away and the carriage shop changed hands. The new landlord turned the place into a crumbling group rental building until Wang Xintai bought it three years ago and turned it into Qiufeng Church.

    This history determines the layout of Qiufeng Church:

    The door is very large, and it still retains the style of the original horse and carriage shop. There are even five rotten log signs on the arc of the door. There are the original advertisements and the name of the business, but they are just "such and such carriage shop"  It had long been stripped away by wind and rain, and no writing could be seen.  The church only tied a human-high cross to the east doorpost to show that the place had changed owners.

    Entering the gate, there is a huge open space, which was originally designed to house various carriages, mules and horses. Now the church has built a simple wooden shed to completely cover the open space, and it has been used as a large worship place to facilitate the congregation to gather and listen to sermons.

    The same two-story wooden buildings as Fang Bingsheng¡¯s residence were built on the north and east sides of the open space, as if several drunken giants were holding hands and overlooking the square in the middle.  There is a smaller chapel in these buildings, as well as simple residences for co-workers and volunteers in the church.

    (In a narrow sense: co-workers are people who serve full-time in the church and receive a salary. Church volunteers do not receive a salary.)

    To the west are two small courtyards with brick and stone structures connected together. They are very grand. Both were just built this year. One is the home of the founder of the church, "Elder" Wang Xintai, and the other is the "Feihuang Lingyun Academy".  "The imperial examination cram school.

    After getting off the emperor¡¯s car, Fang Bingsheng looked around at the door of the church:

    I saw bright lights in the distance to the south, and there was a giant dragon breathing red smoke in the sky, like a demonic city.  That's the factory area.  Most factories are still operating at this time, and the chimneys are smoking;

    But beneath that magnificent "city" was a thick darkness saturated with odor, and countless red light spots spread out on the ground like will-o'-the-wisps in a cemetery.  It was as if the city had just been through a war.  The outside of the city wall was burned to ruins by the enemy.  The remnants of the fire were still burning - it was the residents of the slum area who were cooking dinner. They could only cook their meals over open fires outside the shacks, but lights were generally not lit inside the shacks;

    And behind him.  It is as bright as day, like a huge gem eye staring at the city in the distance. This is the Qiufeng Church who has lit countless torches and oil lamps. If you look at it from the air, they must have illuminated their wooden sheds.  A huge firefly wing.

    Fang Bingsheng slowly turned his face to the right and looked for a long time. That was the direction of the capital, but in fact he could not see anything. He could only see the shadow of the cross on the church swaying under his feet as the firelight flickered inside.  , he sighed in his heart: "In the past, the place where I was was always brightly lit, but now, I am trapped in this darkness."

    "Sir, do you think Qiufeng Church is very pious in holding this evening sermon?" Zhou Lizai, who put away the rickshaw and ran over, interrupted Fang Bingsheng's melancholy.

    "Ah!Ahahnot bad" Looking at Wang Xian's face next to him, which was smiling and appreciating, Fang Bingsheng stuttered a few times, and then he reacted,  He asked, "Pastor Wang, it's dark now, are you preaching?"

    "Yes, because the folks nearby are too busy. They work in factories or businesses from early morning to daytime and have no time to listen to sermons. If they have time, it is after get off work. Therefore, my cousin, Elder Wang Xintai, decided that the church would add evening sermons. , so that these lambs can also hear the gospel of Jesus." Wang Xian replied with a smile.

    "Oh." Fang Bingsheng nodded. This area is considered an industrial zone, and most of the residents are workers. Now the normal working hours of factories are generally 12 hours. Of course, if you work from five in the morning to five in the evening and then go back to sleep in the shack, your home  Your mother-in-law and neighbors may gossip or even scold you: You don¡¯t work overtime, you don¡¯t seek advancement, and you don¡¯t ask for overtime pay!  When can the family move from the shack to the wooden building?  Look at xxx who works 14 hours a day and ends up becoming a foreman, right?  I heard that I built a big house for my hometown, and when I returned home, I was treated like a grandfather by my fellow clan members. The children who proposed marriage were from good families

    This is what it is??, but so many of them are placed together as neatly as the shady trees on the Imperial Avenue;

    At the far end, there is a square wooden platform, half a meter high, which is the pastor's pulpit;

    Between the entrance and the pulpit, bamboo baskets filled with soil are placed upside down on the ground. Every two or three bamboo baskets are spanned by long wooden bars, which have been worn away.  Smooth and bright, these are the seats for the audience; looking at the podium from the entrance, neat rows of wooden bamboo baskets are arranged on top of each other, making people feel like they are in a vegetable garden carefully cultivated by a farmer.

    The wooden strips were carefully and patiently tied together with cloth strips, bamboo strips and bamboo baskets filled with soil. This was a must. This area was a cornucopia, but the security situation was very bad. Anyone,  Regardless of whether you are a church serving God or not, if you dare to place things made by manpower in this crowded place: chairs, benches, even bamboo tubes and wooden boards will disappear.

    But what Fang Bingsheng is concerned about is lighting: It seems that Qiufeng Church has invested a lot of money in order to preach at night: torches or oil lamps are tied to the pillars, and there are even two placed in front of the pulpit so that everyone can see the preacher clearly.  Big iron barrels were on the left and right sides of the podium, and bonfires of coal and wood were burning brightly:

    In darkness, light is precious;

    In secular considerations, light in the night is not as simple as a child in a slum praying to God to give his home some light before going to bed so that he can see his father's face, which he has never seen during the day. There is neither clear mountain spring nor anything to pick up.  There are no firewood or trees!  Water, firewood, kerosene, and coal in the slums are all commodities.  The slums are bare, just people!

    In addition to silver dollar bills, the things that can shine in the slums: candles, vegetable oil, firewood, coal, kerosene and even pieces of paper, cloth, and wood are all money!

    How bright the light is represents how much money you have invested in it.

    Qiufeng Church has invested so much money.  (To be continued, please search Piaotian Literature. The novels will be better and updated faster!
