    Chapter One

    On this day, December 20, 1978, in a remote mountain village in the north, a biting cold wind blew, and snowflakes were floating in the iron-gray sky, making it cold and chilly.  On such a cold winter afternoon, a baby girl was born. She was Zhang Mingzhu, also known as Ouyang Meizi.

    Zhang Mingzhu was born in the north and grew up in a small coastal town in southern Fujian. She is a beautiful, intelligent and versatile woman.  Playing music, chess, calligraphy and painting are her hobbies, and painting is her specialty. However, the only drawback is that she has a little tooth that is not flattering.

    Mingzhu¡¯s father, Uncle Zhang, is a recently retired cadre of a state-owned enterprise, and her mother, Chen Yuhua, is a virtuous housewife. The family¡¯s life depends only on Uncle Zhang¡¯s pension of about 200 yuan a month.  Due to family difficulties, Mingzhu dropped out of school on her own after graduating from high school.

    In the spring of the next year, on a rainy morning, Mingzhu took a bus to Quanzhou in the rain early in the morning.

    On this day, she was wearing a floral cloth with local morale and a fresh student hair. According to the recruitment information published in the "Strait Herald", she found a job as a salesperson at "Quanzhou Xia Dewei Food Company".  When she appeared in front of everyone that day, she had been soaked in the rain.

    There were already people waiting for interviews in the spacious interview hall, sparsely lined up in two queues.  The interviewers were a man and a woman. The man was about fifty years old and had a kind face.  The woman is in her early twenties, wears black-rimmed glasses, has a pink face, and has a beautiful and straight parrot nose. She looks at people with the tail of her eyes. She seems to be a noble and arrogant woman.

    "Hello! My name is Zhang Mingzhu, and I'm here to apply for a job as a salesperson. This is my resume" Mingzhu handed her resume to the recruiting lady with confidence.

    The recruitment lady casually took Mingzhu¡¯s resume and browsed it.  Then he slightly adjusted his glasses with his left hand, looked at the pearl from head to toe, frowned, and said to himself: She has a pretty face, but her little protruding teeth are too unsightly.

    "Your name is Zhang Mingzhu?" the recruitment lady asked slowly.

    "Yes, I am Zhang Mingzhu!" Zhang Mingzhu, who was standing in the front row of the crowd, hurriedly stepped forward and responded.

    ¡°I¡¯ll keep this resume for now and I¡¯ll notify you in a few days,¡± the recruitment lady said.

    "Okay, I'll take my leave now, thank you!" Mingzhu said.

    ¡°You¡¯re welcome!¡± A contemptuous smile flashed across the corner of the recruitment lady¡¯s mouth.

    When Mingzhu stepped out of the door, there was only a "plop!"  She suddenly turned around and saw that her resume had been thrown into the trash can not far from the door.  Mingzhu suddenly felt as desperate as if she had fallen into an ice cellar.  Looking at the recruitment lady, her eyes turned from humiliation to anger.  Everyone involuntarily turned their attention to her.

    "This recruitment lady is really too much. She just returns her resume to someone else if she is not satisfied with it, and throws her resume into the trash can" someone said softly on Mingzhu's behalf.

    ¡°Now there¡¯s something to watch!¡± Someone whispered with joy.

    ¡°If it were me, I would have punched her hard!¡± Someone said angrily in a soft voice.

    Mingzhu was so angry that she clenched her pink fists and her almond-shaped eyes widened.  Calm down!  Calm down!  How can you lose your image and dignity over a trivial matter in front of everyone?  Mingzhu warned herself secretly.  She walked to the recruitment trash can, leaned down calmly, and silently took out her resume from the trash can.  The originally clean resume was stained with a little dust and impurities because it was thrown into the trash can.  Mingzhu flicked the dust on it gently with her jade fingers, took out a paper towel from her bag, carefully wiped off the impurities on the paper, arranged it neatly, and put it gently into her backpack.

    "Small, no one is kept here, there is a place to keep people!" She thought to herself as she faced the recruiting girl who was secretly enjoying herself.  Then he turned around and walked out of the door, leaving "Quanzhou Xia Dewei Food Company" without looking back.

    "That's too much. Please take a good look at yourself!" Someone said unfairly to the recruitment lady.

    "Oh no, there are such mean people in such a unit, so"We have been recruited, and our lives will not be easy in the future. We should go to other units" Those who came to apply for the job left "Quanzhou Xia Dewei Food Company" one after another.
